Ratings: So You Think You Can Dance, America’s Got Talent Fall

Last night’s ratings are in from TVByTheNumbers, and sadly, the numbers for SYTYCD fell 25%! UGH.

Big Brother had its best Wednesday premiere in viewers and adults 18-49 (and adults 25-54, too) since 2003 (though there were no Wednesday episodes from 2004-2007 or 2009). Its 2.6 adults 18-49 rating was second for the night only to America’s Got Talent which scored a 2.8 rating with adults 18-49 at 9pm, but that was down 22% from last week’s 3.6 adults 18-49 rating.

After bouncing back last week, So You Think You Can Dance fell 25% against the increased competition to a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating.

8:00 CBS Big Brother 2.6/9 – 7.25m
FOX So You Think You Can Dance 1.8/6 – 5.52m

9:00  NBC America’s Got Talent 2.8/8 – 11.01m
FOX So You Think You Can Dance 1.9/5 – 5.41m

America’s Got Talent outpaced SYTYCD by half, even while suffering its own big drop.  Yikes. Maybe the EIGHT Emmy nominations SYTYCD received today will attract some needed attention? I hope so.  Nigel Lythgoe’s dance competition show is my favorite summer diversion.

Nigel Lythgoe’s dance competition show is my favorite summer diversion.

Mine as well. It makes me sad to see the ratings for this show continue to drop. Maybe bringing in the all stars next week could help. Otherwise, IDK.

The casting this year is off. Not enough diversity or big personalities.

Anything can happen, but I’m not that worried about this show.

First off, it’s summer and the expectations for a summer show are lower than fall/winter.

Secondly, this show is obviously Nygel Lythgoe’s love child and, with the spectacular success of Idol this past year, it’s almost worth it for Fox to keep it on the air just to make him happy.

I do think that the All-Stars will boost the ratings a bit. I know I’m eager to see what happens when the new dancers start getting paired with other partners.

This season is the first when I have not found somebody to love (male or female), yeah I came in ready to root for Sasha after seeing her in concert and on so many videos last summer (and I want to see if how many Adam related folks can win reality tv shows) and she is very good but I loved Lauren and Alex last year and was so bummed when Danny did not win and have gone back to watch his dance with Lacey many times and I could name at least one from every season like that. This year it is less compelling.

I am with you MJ, this is my favorite summer show. I DVR all three of these shows, but if I had to choose, it would be SYTYCD. I think BB had so many viewers to find out what happened to Evil Dick. Maybe they should consider advertising more. I always see previews of BB and AGT on other shows, but I cannot recall seeing any for SYTYCD. I could be wrong. I am very happy for Cat’s nomination because I think she in the best reality host out there and I hope she wins. It is really nice to see all of the nominations for SYTYCD, as well as the other shows that we all get updates on from your blog. Thanks MJ.

Too many contempo dancers. Too much of the same from the same choreographers.

And it’s two years in a row with too many contempo dancers, imo.

Big Brother is more interesting to me than So you think you can Dance, but I agree that So you think you can Dance is so much better than America’s Got Talent, which I can’t stand.

I am in agreement with,”Too many contempo dancers. Too much of the same from the same choreographers.” So, what does Nigel do? He eliminates the tap dancer (Nick) and the ballet dancer (Alexander). I was really looking forward to what they could do.

SYTYCD remains my favorite diversion as well. However, there should have been more diversity in this TOP 10.
