Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Jan 18-24

Six milestones this week on radio – all from Idols.

For the third consecutive week, season 3 Idol Fantasia achieves a milestone. “No Time For It” is leading the charge for her TBA album and it is now top 20 on UAC.

Haley Reinhart came in 3rd on the tenth season of Idol and she’s making in-roads with a gum commercial. Her gorgeous cover of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” achieved two milestones this week going top 40 on HAC and top 20 on AC. It’s relatively rare for covers to get a lot of love on mainstream radio and covers for commercials have even less luck. It’s a testament to the quality of this one that it is resonating with audiences.

Our third number 3 this week comes from Danny Gokey who was third on the 8th season of Idol. He struggled to find a format, but is now becoming a regular on CAC. “Tell Your Heart to Beat” goes top 20 in that format

Season 1 Idol winner Kelly Clarkson achieves top 40 on AC with her latest single “Piece by Piece”. Her previous single is still top 30 in the format and PbP is also top 40 on HAC.

Finally, from Idol, we have auditioneer Tori Kelly. “Hollow” goes top 30 on Rhythmic.

Billboard confirms that Panic! at the Disco achieves their first number 1 with 190K in equivalent album sales. It’s also their best selling week for any album at 169K handily beating their previous high-point of 139K. Their last album opened with only 84K. The usual suspects, Adele and Justin, are 2nd and 3rd on the chart with Bowie spending his second week at 4th. twenty-one pilots are 5th, followed by Kidz Bop 31, Bowie again, Chris Stapleton, The Weeknd and Bryson Tiller’s trap soul.
