L.A. Reid Named Chairman of Epic Records

foxupfront-30It’s finally official, record executive and X Factor US judge, L.A. Reid, has been named chairman of Epic Records. It was announced today by Sony Music Entertainment CEO, Doug Morris.

“L.A. repeatedly has proven over the course of his celebrated career that he knows how to develop world-class artistry. We are very happy to have an executive of his talents leading EPIC RECORDS as we begin an exciting new chapter of growth for Sony Music Entertainment, ” says Doug Morris

“I look forward with great enthusiasm to joining the SONY MUSIC family as it affords us the opportunity to build EPIC RECORDINGS as the revolutionary music company of tomorrow. We are deeply committed to discovering and developing the next generation of superstars as well as implementing a fresh and innovative business model. It is also my distinct pleasure to be once again joining Doug who is an amazing leader and the most visionary and forward-thinking executive in the music entertainment industry” L.A. says.

The Epic Label Group, which L.A. will oversee, will also include Jive Records. It remains to be seen what the restructuring will mean for Jordin Sparks, Kris Allen and Crystal Bowersox–three Idols who remain on the label. David Archuleta, who released 3 albums with the label, recently parted ways with Jive.

Correction: Jive artists, including Kris Allen, Jordin Sparks and Crystal Bowersox will probably be heading to RCA, although it has not been confirmed yet. Read the entire LA Reid press release HERE.
