Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake” music video debuts today on Vevo. The singer wrote the song, which seems to allude to her break up with ex-husband Russell Brand,  specifically for her 3D movie, coming out on July 4.

In the video, Katy wanders through a gothic labyrinth, where she meets her younger self.  The duo journey through a fairtale/horror story in what looks like an enchanted castle until they eventually find themselves in a beautiful garden where a prince on horseback appears…  Let’s just say little Katy learns a valuable lesson. Watch below.

I LOVED E.T.! I didn’t really care for Katy until that song lol. Wide Awake is sort of in that same vein. She’s done very, very well with this album. It has amazing legs.

Katy Perry’s videos are very creative and colorful, but her voice always sounds strained and pitchy to me.  I liked ET (The Kanye version) and Hot n Cold, but most of her songs, including this one, make my ears hurt.

The insane part is that they’ve literally ALL done incredibly well. I still hear every single one of those songs on the radio (to varying frequencies).

Yeah. And her singles are instant. I heard California Gurls once and knew it was going to be a monster, same with Teenage Dream and when the album finally got released, I knew she would keep on churning out hits, I just didn’t expect 5 singles from the original release to hit #1 on HOT 100. And then she added 6th #1 from a re-release.
