Katy Perry Joins the American Idol Season 9 Judges Panel Thursday In LA, Avril Lavigne Set for Friday

Hmm. MJ, correct me if I’m wrong, but this talk of who is judging in Paula’s place at each locale is keeping AI in the mainstream news more than ever for this time of the season. If you think about it, why would they even need to replace Paula for these initial audition rounds? Oh wait….. Katy Perry? Avril Lavigne? Could they be trying to lure in the elusive 18-25 male demographic? Then, once they’ve got them hooked, Paula will make her triumphant return for the Top 32/36.

They seem pretty excited to be auditioning for Katy Perry. They must have missed this interview’ ¦

They didn’t even know she was the guest judge. The reporter had to tell them. Apparently they don’t follow this blog, or any Idol news online, which is surprising.

Would not be surprised to see Paula back in her chair once the live rounds begin. Not at all.

I totally agree, I think they’re using all these guest judges to gain publicity, taunt Paula into thinking they’re over her, and make her come crawling back at a lower salary just in the nick of time. There’s no legit reason to have a 4th judge at this point – these people should not get a say in who makes it to Hollywood, since they’re not invested.

I like both girls, Katy and Avril.

But I really want Paula back.

I think if that’s what happens then that’s what would have been planned all along by both sides. It would be a very dramatic thing to do and AI does covet drama, but more than anything else AI has a mean streak. I would not put it past them to schedule so many guest judges as a way to show Paula up. And by “not put it past them” I mean that that’s what I think they’re doing. I don’t believe Paula will ever have anything to do with AI again, in a kind of never-forgotten-blood-feud sort of way.

I may be wrong, but don’t music legends make good judges?

Paula will be back for Season 10. They are showing her a good lesson, I guess?

I don’t know maybe they will be good just hope the audition don’t over shadow the rest of the show…

They’ve had guest judges before during auditions so I don’t think this is a plot against Paula, but of course they probably are concerned about how fans will accept Paula’s absence, so they probably want to make sure the ratings are strong and they are giving fans something to replace Paula, I can understand that reasoning. I usually look forward to guest judges, at least it’s something different, though sometimes Simon acts out if he’s not the center of attention, he seems to resent guest judges most of the time.

Interesting that 2 Canadians Shania and Avril will be on AMERICAN Idol. ;-) No other talent in the American pool? I think that Sarah MacLachlan should be on it too then!
