Jessica Sanchez Single in January, Album March or April

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, American Idol Season 11 runner up, Jessica Sanchez, reveals details about her upcoming album.  Her first single should be released in January, with a CD to follow in March or April.

That release schedule appears to be perfectly timed with her Glee appearance, where she will play the lead of a rival show choir facing off against New Directions in the Regionals competition. Also, Jessica will be able to appear on American Idol. Season 12 will be in full swing by then.

THR: Let’s talk about your debut album! Who are you working with?
Sanchez:  I’ve been working with amazing people! Harvey Mason, Jr. (Whitney Houston, Pia Toscano, Jordin Sparks, Britney Spears, Toni Braxton, Jennifer Hudson), who has been one of my producers and Toby Gad (Fergie, Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson, Demi Lovato, One Direction), who has been amazing to work with. I have also been working with mainly Ester Dean (Dean is a co-writer of the Katy Perry hit, “Firework” and Clarkson’s “Mr. Know It All,” among her many credits). There are some other songwriters, too.

THR: Can you give us some details about the record’s direction? “Fairytale” was such a good song. Will that be on there?
Sanchez: Thank you! “Fairytale” is more like a poppy song, that I did, but the album will consist of many different sounds. It’s not stuck on ballads and stuff, but more like urban R&B. But it will still be soulful Jessica. I am going to stay true to what I did on the show, but also what I always wanted to do and who I really am.

THR: Do you have an idea of when it might come out?

Sanchez: I think a single will be ready in January, and the album will be out in March or April.

Finally some news!  This is pretty much what I expected.  Glad to see Esther Dean on there.  Not only does she write Pop.  But she can do urban, R&B, rap and Hip Hop.  She’s written a lot of Rihanna’s stuff too.

It was mentioned on Twitter that Jessica was working with Ne Yo . a good line up she has of writers and producers.

Makes sense with her Glee appearance .

I’m just bummed that she hasn’t released a single yet. I thought they were aiming for Nov/Dec release

I think that was originally the planned album time frame, and then stuff happened, and the spring release date to go with the Glee appearance makes more sense.

November/December is an iffy time to release a single, as even radio formats that don’t shift heavily to Christmas music get lazy about adding new songs. January-ish is a much better time to release a single, as radio then wants to stir up the playlists and bring in new music. (It’s the big radio hits that get the iTunes gift-card spend on December 26, so Sanchez isn’t missing anything by not having a single out for that. She needs radio play and TV promo to get substantial sales, and getting her that promo appears to be the plan.)

I wonder what Interscope is planning. They could have released a single for Jessica months ago and an album around the same time as Phillip. It sounded like that was the plan early on, with Jessica recording a lot while on tour.

Maybe I am underestimating how much being on Glee and performing on AI will help promote the album’s release.

I hope they have a strong single ready for January.

I dunno.  Glee was in the works for a while.  Maybe they were always waiting on that to re-introduce Jessica to the public.  I’m glad they waited in this instance because they should have dropped a single back in September if they wanted to release the album in time for Christmas.

Since that didn’t happen, I’m glad they decided to wait and do a proper single release and album build up.

Yeah, and speculation is that, Ne-Yo might be a feature on her album. She’s been working with Jesse W Wilson (@TheCorpShow) on twitter and some fans asked him how he and Jessica met, he replied saying he met her whilst working with Ne-Yo on her project.

  • hayes

Does that mean Fairytale is on the album? If so, boo.

I guess this is the best time for Jessica to release her Album.  Can’t Wait .
I hope her Single will be RnB ..

It’s possible they were doing some artist development with her, also, to see what the best direction would be for her, if that’s what they are doing it might be helpful.

It could also be to coincide with Glee and the new season of AI.   I’m sure these things are in the works way longer than we know about.

Looks like Jessica’s management is focusing on quality and tapping into her versatile genre abilities…very interesting..

i think her single might need to be pop leaning if she’s going to gain any traction on Top 40. It can be R’n’B with strong hints of pop, like Rihanna does. Going with a flat out R’n’B single might not be too good for her popularity!. Ne-Yo tried this with his new album. : He released a flat out R’n’B single, ‘Lazy love’ and it didn’t do as well as he hoped! He then released  the pop leaning ‘Let Me Love You’ and safe to say that song is burning up the charts. It’s being in the Hot 100 top 10 for the last 3 weeks and is his first Top 10 as a lead artist , since 2008. Tells you a lot, about the state of R’n’B , doesn’t it?

It sounds like the release date for the album is meant to match Jessica’s appearance on Glee, which should give it a very nice boost, even though Glee’s ratings aren’t what they used to be.

I’m sure they would’ve preferred a holiday release, which is why I agree with the assumption that they chose to develop her as an artist instead, especially since she’s so young.

You have a valid point there .  I just don’t want her single to be like “Fairytale” .
