Final nominations in 7 out of 12 categories for the 44th Annual CMA Awards, which will be hosted for the 3rd consecutive year by our own Carrie Underwood and her Arista Nashville labelmate Brad Paisley, were announced this morning at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville by RCA Nashville recording artist and Nashville Star Season 4 winner Chris Young and Big Machine/Valory Music Group recording artist Justin Moore. Announcing the CMA nominations in the Broadcast Personality and Radio Station categories were Big Machine recording artists and Can You Duet Season 2 winners Steel Magnolia.

It’s an AI shutout so far with Nashville Star and Can You Duet better represented, but nominations in several of the biggest categories have not yet been announced.

More about the nominations and what to expect after the jump.

Check out the nominations in the official CMA press release. The categories in which nominations have been announced are: Single Of The Year, Song Of The Year, New Artist Of The Year, Musician Of The Year, Music Video Of The Year, Vocal Group Of The Year, and Vocal Duo Of The Year. Reality show alumni already represented include: Miranda Lambert, Chris Young, Steel Magnolia, and Joey & Rory. Also shut out in this morning’s announcements were big name acts like Taylor Swift, George Strait, Kenny Chesney, and Keith Urban. Expect to see most if not all those names nominated tomorrow.

Nominations in the remaining 5 categories, including Entertainer Of The Year, will be announced tomorrow September 1st on Good Morning America at 8:30 AM Eastern by Columbia Nashville recording artist and Nashville Star Season 1 2nd runner up Miranda Lambert (who already has 5 nominations from this morning’s announcements) and Capitol Nashville recording artist Dierks Bentley. Arista Nashville recording artist and AI Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood is a good bet to score her 5th consecutive nomination for CMA Female Vocalist Of The Year (she has won 3 times), but can she pick up her 1st ever nomination for CMA Entertainer Of The Year? With the 5th spot in the Female Vocalist Of The Year category possibly up for grabs, can BNA recording artist and AI Season 5 finalist Kellie Pickler score her 1st ever nomination in that category? We’ll find out tomorrow.

The remaining categories with nominations to be announced are: Entertainer Of The Year, Female Vocalist Of The Year, Male Vocalist Of The Year, Album Of The Year, and Musical Event Of The Year. The 44th Annual CMA Awards will air on Wednesday November 10 2010 at 8 PM Eastern/7 PM Central.

I’ll be very shocked if Carrie Underwood doesn’t get a nomination. I could see her winning Entertainer of the Year and she’d deserve it. I’m also rooting for Keith Urban. Love him!

  • stwbcross

I agree TwigLA. Female Vocalist nomination and hopefully Entertainer of the Year nomination too. I love Keith too but I don’t think he stands a chance at winning because he hasn’t been touring but Brad and Carrie have.

Carrie’ll get nominated for Female Vocalist definitely. She deserves to be nominated for Entertainer but she’s been snubbed the last 2 years in that category so I’m not taking it for granted. If she’s nominated for Entertainer then it’s weird but that’s actually her best shot at actually winning a CMA this year. Miranda Lambert’s got the Female Vocalist and Album categories on lock because Revolution’s her breakthrough album and it’s so critically acclaimed. She deserves it too.

If Carrie gets nominated for Entertainer then she’s got a better chance in the sense that she’s had a bigger year overall than anybody else who’d be nominated. Taylor Swift might be nominated and the CMAs could get swept up in her hype again but I think the biggest competition for Entertainer would be Brad Paisley. He’s been due to win for so many years and even though he hasn’t had as big a year the CMAs could decide it’s finally time for him. He gets more people coming per show than Carrie but I think Carrie’s overall numbers are bigger because she’s doing more shows plus she’s done a lot of other high profile stuff to give country music more exposure. Plus her tour reviews have been amazing.

If Lady Antebellum or Zac Brown Band are nominated for Entertainer then they’d be competition too but I think the CMAs will vote for them in other categories. Keith is amazing live so you can never rule him out of winning Entertainer either.

I’m assuming carrie will get a nomination or two. Do any other former Idols have a realistic chance of receiving any nominations?

  • TwigLA

stwbcross, Keith Urban has been on his ‘Summer of Love Tour’ all summer :) Kris Allen has opened for him a few times and has, I think, 3 more shows to do with him. They’ll be at the Allentown County Fair this Friday.

girlygirl: Do any other former Idols have a realistic chance of receiving any nominations?

Kellie has a chance of snagging a Female Vocalist of the Year nomination. 4 of the nominations in the category are probably locked up: Miranda Lambert, Carrie, Taylor Swift (because of her sales not her voice), and Reba. The 5th spot is more uncertain. Martina McBride’s the frontrunner for it because she’s Martina and she did have a top 20 hit recently. Kellie’s probably had better album sales than her so if voters look at that they could go her way. Other possibilities would be LeAnn Rimes and Lee Ann Womack. Neither of them have had hits lately but LeAnn Rimes has been all over the place performing. There’s also Laura Bell Bundy but she’d be a real long shot considering she hasn’t done a whole lot in country music yet. Sarah Buxton doesn’t have a label right now and Emily West’s single didn’t make the top 35 either which sucks because it was amazing.

Other than Carrie and Kellie I don’t think any former Idols had a realistic chance at nominations this year.

TwigLA: I think what stwbcross was talking about was a tour of amphitheaters or arenas like what Carrie’s been doing with the Play On tour or like Brad’s doing with his Water tour where you have your own production and big crew. Keith’s strung together a lot of fair and festival dates so that’s different.

Don’t forget one of my alltime favorite country acts, Rosanne Cash, for Female Vocalist. She had a big album this year with “The List.” It was an album of old songs her father Johnny Cash once suggested she get to know, and while the album didn’t get much country radio play, it sold well and honoring your roots goes over well in the country community! Just like when Vince Gill did “These Days.” His song “The Reason Why” wasn’t one of his bigger hits, but the fact that he did a four CD set of various genres impressed the voters enough to garner quite a few nominations. It’s not always about airplay…

I haven’t forgotten Rosanne Cash but realistically her best chance at nominations will be at the Grammys not the CMAs. It sucks but it is what it is. Vince only got 2 nominations off These Days at the CMAs: Album Of The Year and Musical Event Of The Year with Alison Krauss for The Reason Why. It wasn’t enough for him to get nominated in Male Vocalist at the CMAs because they do look at hits and they consider touring and all that other stuff, not just music quality. That’s why I didn’t even mention Rosanne Cash in the Female Vocalist Of The Year conversation. Man would I ever LOVE it if it happened though. If by some miracle too she gets nominated for Album Of The Year at the CMAs I’ll be happy as a clam. I expect she’ll definitely be nominated at the Grammys.

The person I did forget about is Gretchen Wilson. She could beat out Martina for the 5th spot in Female Vocalist but I still think Martina’s got a better chance because of her reputation.

I seriously hope LBB doesn’t get a nomination for female vocalist when her only single even in the top 40 so far was Giddy on Up

Though better that than Taylor Swift, I suppose. It would be fun if Kellie could get nominated but I’d tend to guess it will be someone else.

  • stwbcross

Thanks windmills, that was exactly what I meant.

I didn’t really think that Kellie had any real chance with Martina and a few others waiting in the wings. But I wouldn’t bet against your knowledge of the country music world. :)

As for LBB, I think she could sneak through with a nom as she scored a performance slot last year so I assume (translation: I have no real knowledge) there must already be quite a bit of respect for her from the industry players.
