Since Danny is at 40 on the BB200, that means he sold in the 7K range. Hip Hop Album reports that 50 Cent sold 7,200 at 39. Rough Stock reports that Blake Shelton sold 7K at 45 (all numbers rounded).

  • girlygirl

Congrats to Danny! Since he wasn’t on the HDD chart, this suggests that a lot of his sales must have come from the Christian stores that HDD doesn’t get reports from, right?

Phillip meanwhile is #57 on the Top 200, +2 spots from last week

Yes. It’s also a good sign that he’s being accepted in his genre if many of his buyers are buying in the traditional marketplace for that genre (i.e. fans of the music rather than fans of the contestant wgi tend to be a little more transitory).

  • girlygirl

    Who is Terry Fator?

  • ptebwwong

Season 2 winner of America’s Got Talent. He’s a ventriloquist who makes impersonations of singers. Here’s his audition:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPi-hbgQ8c8

  • elliegrll

That’s a good showing by 5H. It’s almost unheard of from Simon Cowell, or with the A&R for any former reality show contestant, but sometimes it actually looks like 5H is in an artist development phase. Even with the new single, they are taking pre-orders on it just like they would with an album.

  • elliegrll

That’s a surprising number, and a good sign for Danny. He’s in the genre where he should have been from the beginning.

  • Amy Beth

He’s done very well for himself. The casino he’s based out of renamed the room he performs in the Terry Fator Theatre.

AGT is a really good show for acts that are not mainstream singers.

Robin Thicke: “TakeOver” of ABC Produces Few Sales, Twitter Campaign Backfires

    http://www.showbiz411.com/2014/07/03/robin-thicke-takeover-of-abc-produces-few-sales-twitter-campaign-backfires

ETA: I can’t say I feel sorry for the guy. He did it to himself.

  • Corrine43180

I thought Phillip would be up more than that with the promo last week. We’ll see what the 4th celebration brings.

  • Mel432

He actually plays in a theatre and not lounge? Pretty darn good for a relative unknown.

  • girlygirl

I don’t remember — is the 4th of July a holiday that results in increased music sales? All it ever says in the commercials for the holiday is “baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet” :)

  • disqus_1wjaGXHz07

I was surprised to see JLo’s numbers so low. Looks like Mariah Carey may be having a tough time as well. Then there’s Robin Thicke’s tentative projection of 20k – 23k.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Terry Fator has done far better than “pretty darn good”:

In early December 2007, Fator signed a contract for $1.5 million with the Las Vegas Hilton to do three shows a month from January 2008 to May 2008. ……

On May 13, 2008 it was announced that Fator had signed a five year, $100 million contract to perform nightly at The Mirage in Las Vegas.[19] He replaced headliner Danny Gans and the theater was renamed the Terry Fator Theatre. Reportedly, Fator’s deal is one of the largest entertainment deals in Las Vegas history.[20]

  • Incipit

“Fator’s deal is one of the largest entertainment deals in Las Vegas history.”

The first time I heard about him some years ago it was because of his talent – people talking about seeing his show in Vegas; they made a special trip to see him. I only found out Much later that he had been on AGT.

  • Mel432

If you’ve never been to Vegas, you never would have heard of Danny Gans. I would see him in every Vegas magazine, every time I went to Vegas. I’m sorry I never got to see him, cuz I think he was a big deal there. I didn’t realize Fator was that popular. “…one of the largest entertainment deals in Las Vegas history.” Outside of Vegas, like Gans, he probably is unknown, but it sure looks like he is doing really really good.

  • Corrine43180

He has a performance of Raging Fire on the Capitol 4th special I believe.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I admit that I was shocked when I learned about Fator’s historic deal. He was great on AGT, but I never would have expected him to be such a commercial success.

  • Trina

I havent been to Vegas in a couple of years but the last time I was there I couldnt even get tickets to his show, he was that huge. At one point he was THE biggest act in Vegas, even bigger than some of the superstar singers that had regular shows. I did see Danny Gans but from what I gather Terry ended up much more popular. I honestly dont know how hes viewed in the world outside of Vegas but there he’s huuuuuge lol

  • ptebwwong

From what I remember, I don’t believe there are increased music sales. However, it might affect radio airplay depending on your genre (Ex. increase of patriotic music on country radio).

Candice was part of an earlier BET Experience concert which is also on this week’s Billboard Boxscore.

  • Indigobunting

Thanks for clarifying Danny’s album situation Kirsten. It was confusing that he wasn’t on HDD but the explanation helps.

I thought he’d sell more (still used to old tallies) but the Billboard position is surprisingly decent I guess.
Although I’m not a fan of his new music I’m happy to see him do well-looks like a nice debut, especially with no touring or major TV appearances.

Wonder if he regrets being stubborn and not signing with Word to start with? Hopefully radio will continue to play him and help sales continue.

He’s singing at the Grand Ole Opry this Saturday so that may help. It’s nice they are still asking him back.

  • certain1

I think it also means Hits numbers should not be taken as gospel (no pun intended).

I think we all knew BMG wasn’t a major label but they seem to have done good for Danny.

  • stef

Ventriloquist, really? I know there is a reason I never watched AGT :)

  • Larc

P2 isn’t listed among the performers in TV Guide, although Jordin Sparks is. But I think he was invited to perform only recently.

Couple of interesting articles here. First one is the SoundScan numbers for the 1st half of 2014 compared to the 1st half of 2013. The other article talks about why EDM radio format hasn’t been very successful.

If you ever get a chance to see Terry Fator, GO! He is one of the best entertainers ever. So deserving of every nickle he receives from his Las Vegas show. And I always hated ventriloquists until I saw him on AGT.

  • Fifad

It looks like the Voice tour is doing worse than idol.
