Happy Fourth of July!
This week, we don’t have an Idol concerts to report, but we do have one from the X-Factor and one from an NBC singing show. One Direction from the original UK X-Factor takes their show on the road to America and continue their sold-out ways. Pentatonix hits the Knitting Factory chain (and although they do not sell-out, those numbers aren’t actually bad in Spokane which frequently posts numbers that make you wince, but at least gives live music a chance to grow and flourish).

In other news, Billboard has an article about declining digital sales (tracks sales were down 1.34% in Q1 and 3.3% in Q2). Could streaming be to blame? Album sales are down 5.6%
UMG controls 37.6% of the market share, Sony 28.9% and Warner 20.2% (not including the recent purchase of EMI which should increase sales). Independents (other the big 4) were responsible for 12.1% in sales.
BB also has an article about Kayne having the biggest second week drop from number 1 in a year and the fourth worst in the history of SoundScan. Sales fell 80% this week to 65K from 327K. Top 5 drops for number one albums:
