Idols In Concert – Stats – 10/17/13

Woo-hoo! We got another concert report for the American Idols Live Season 12 tour. And, it is for the biggest, fullest, most revenue generating one yet. Back in the Nokia, they sold 94% of the tickets and played to a crowd of almost 6.5K. Of course, with the average ticket price being $29, a number of those tickets would have been sold for $20, but it sure is nice to draw a big crowd.

Also reporting in are Cassadee Pope (opening for Rascal Flatts), Carly Rae Jepsen at the Greek, America’s Got Talent Live Tour and Kellie Pickler.

Oscillation in the 600s-400s on a past album is pretty normal, actually. The sales involved are so low that it doesn’t mean a lot. (It doesn’t even mean increased sales, depending what surrounding albums are doing.)

You’re right, though, that a challenge right now for the SYT album is that potential buyers haven’t heard of it, which is why radio play is so critical (and so frustrating!).

I was there and it was mostly full! Never did get the LA people who said it wasn ‘t. IMO, the Nokia is the perfect size. Most well known artists can fill one night. And if needed, a second night can be added. One of my favorite venues.

    http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/idol-worship/american-idol-charts-phillip-phillips-649197

DOUBLE PLAY: Some 16 months after making his Billboard chart debut, Phillip Phillips chalks up another first. He now has two albums appearing on The Billboard 200, thanks to the bow of his acoustic iTunes Session. That digital release enters the chart at No. 148, while the season 11 champ’s first set, The World from the Side of the Moon, is re-energized, bouncing back up the list with a move of 107-96.

There’s Phillips activity on other Billboard charts, too. His new single, “Where We Came From,” is up 24-23 on Triple A, achieving a new peak position. The previous single, “Gone, Gone, Gone,” rebounds 55-47 on Hot Digital Songs, returns to the top 10 with a jump of 12-10 on Rock Digital Songs and bounces back to No. 2 on Adult Contemporary Audience.

What’s ironic is that Phillip hasn’t done any media, shows, appearances – as he prepares to headline his college tour as well the winter leg of the John Mayer tour.

I think the theory that P2’s album sells well when he tours (especially with Mayer) could be true. Expect sales to go down until he starting touring again.

  • maymay

Phillip has a college tour date on November 24. http://www.phillipphillips.com/tour

But American Music Awards will be held at this same day too.
    http://goo.gl/y1U9Rn

Interscope or 19 should fix the schedule.

  • Eilonwy_has_an_emu

Not ironic at all. P2 has radio to support sales of the regular album. For the iTunes sessions, #148 on the BB 200 means it sold a few thousand copies (#50 is ~6,400 last week, so #148 is a lot less than that). Having ~2,000 hardcore fans is not an especially high count for a recent Idol winner (plus anybody buying the regular album from iTunes probably had the iTunes session recommended to them).

  • Anny_nanny
  • Madilo

I want him out on the road soon because it’s good for the album imo.

  • Madilo

Tie It Up was really a flop from Kelly, i hope her country album does well.

  • springboard2

But he still has substantial radio play, and when he stops touring, his singles will be winding down as well.

Touring usually has a small impact on sales because it involves a small number of people compared to mass awareness like radio or TV.

  • Anny_nanny

It was a happy song, and in any case it is better than WWCF made.

  • Madilo

I said it was a flop from Kelly, isn’t it true ? and why would you compare it with WWCF really ?

  • Anny_nanny

You know the expression “pet peeve”? Of course there is nothing to compare, but I have the right to complain.

  • Jason Gorny

Wish Kelly would have kept promoting PLU. it couldve made it over 500k. At least Catch my Breath sold 1.5 million copies and the G.H album is over 500k so that is 2 million records sold right there. not too shabby! I wish Dark Side could’ve sold more. It is one of my favorite songs from her. I am pretty sure Stronger is past the 1.060 million mark. I remember seeing somewhere on here that it was at that point in the spring. I would assume by now it would be around the 1.1 million number.
