The American Idol judges’ round begins today in New York City with Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson!

The American Idol Top 10 leave today for the Philippines. They play a concert in Manila on September 21.

    You’re right. I just checked Nickelback concert reviews online, and yes, Daughtry was the opening act. That was not widely advertised here, though, and since I am not a Nickelback fan, and didn’t plan to go to the concert, I didn’t read any concert information beforehand, either. The one review I read didn’t mention Daughtry at all, but it was a short one. Newspapers surely will have at least some comments on the band.

    Devil’s advocate post here, posted for your entertainment:

    Phillip is 19′s special snowflake.  They’ve pushed him from the beginning. They don’t call him on his faults, they don’t require him to do everything that the others have to do. He’s even allowed to use his guitar in audition when the rules say no.  He apparently has the respect of radio in genres that others before him have failed to crack. 19 gives him what he wants.  If he wants his GF on tour he gets her, as well as getting her on the stage.  This keeps Phil happy… they even send her all the way to Manila.  How many spouses/SOs/GFs can say that?  None? 

    He gets a coronation song that fits in/sounds like something current. They even make a video for it. (That’s never happened before. Oh they are treating him like a REAL artist.) It gets pushed to the Olympics AND movie promos. He’s got respect.

    He has all the apppearances of being wanted by the label from early on.  Other idol contestants have been called “plants” – as established artists,  but Phillip doesn’t seem to have the “footprints” on utube.  I thought that was really odd for someone who was writing songs & performing places.  But then again, maybe they were all swept away before anyone even thought to look for them which would imply a plan in place long before the season started.  Maybe he was on their radar since AGT, or whatever talent show he tried out for, and this past year of idol has just been one big promo endeavor from the beginning to launch the next big thing.  Maybe it’s been one giant “wizard of Oz” plot.  Or maybe not.  :D

    MJ posted the videos on American Idol Live Milwaukee, and I think she came on stage with everybody as backup singers on Jessica’s Proud Mary and P2 Home.

    I think that this is definitely possible, if not probable, although I’m not sure what “guarantees” P2 may have been given other than getting a gold ticket to Hollywood. Still, Deandre and Colton obviously were invited to come back to audition (with the understanding that they would probably get through to the voting rounds). I think that there were a couple of young kids last year (one AA youngster) who are probably going to get the same fast track treatment this year).

    I didn’t even know Hannah was on the tour until I read it here.  So, I don’t think her profile was nearly as high as indicated.  And so what if she is there.  Phillip has not only made enough money for 19 & Interscope with Home, he has worked endlessly with the radio tours, promoting AI, the tour, the single.

    But it’s the money that Phillip has made for them with Home.  He has also worked endlessly promoting the tour, AI, the single.   So in essence, he is really paying for everything. Not sure what the big deal is that she is there.

    Every winner has worked endlessly….. Phillip is not unique.  What’s unique is that he has his GF on tour. 

    As for making enough money for 19 & Interscope w/home he’s made a bundle, but not enough to cover all of the promo/production/advance expenses for his upcoming CD, so I’m sure on the balance sheet that money coming in is posted in the “income column” and the expenses accumulating in the “expense column”.  The jury is still out if this CD cycle will end up in the black or in the red. ;)

    No one even knows for sure Idol is paying for the Phillipines trip. Nikki went last year with Paul and she bought her own ticket. P2 has received enough money to date that he could be paying for her to go. The comments were they all flew coach so its possible. That’s his woman so every body just get used to it. If you see P2, Hannah ain’t too far behind.

    In 11 years, the only other Idols who had constant traveling companions were the kids under 18 and the blind guy. What is Hannah, PP’s chaperone? The GF must be really insecure and clingy.

    Or P2 is really insecure and clingy. It makes no sense to blame the gal for something that her boyfriend has to have arranged for her, no matter how dicey a precedent this sets. She’s a small-town gal who got a chance at an enormous adventure, traveling the country — why wouldn’t she take it?

    If the popular assumption is that P2 can’t figure out how to say “no” to his girlfriend, then I don’t give him good odds against Interscope’s A&R or being Taylor Swift’s next break-up adventure. 

    Really, though, surrounding himself with people he knows and can trust seems like a sensible thing to do in the new world he’s been catapulted into. Running his love life to suit his fans strikes me as a lot less sensible.

    I don’t really care too much about the Hannah situation outside of I don’t think it’s particularly right to assume 19 is paying her way when we don’t know that for sure.  For whatever reason 19 allowed her to come along and ride the girls bus, and yes, now go to the Philippines with the rest, but that’s really all we know. 

    I also don’t even think Hannah really comes off all that high profile except to P2 fans who are following his every move (or to people that follow her twitter feed.)  She’s not showing up in Phil’s interviews and she seems to remove herself from group idol pictures that are made public. 

    Lastly to clarify the Hannah going on stage during the last tour show, from what I saw she was dancing in the background of Proud Mary and that is all.  She was on stage alongside many various crew, idols and family members.  DeAndre’s mother was also dancing on stage and I don’t see any complaints about how that must mean she’s a stage mother vying for her own career.  Hannah was not on stage with the rest of the Idols for Party Rock & Home.

    Ahh, raya…that’s something I haven’t seen mentioned before.  I didn’t know that other family members and crew members were on stage at the same time as Hannah.  That does make all the difference then.  I thought she was the only one up there with the Idols.

    I didn’t see Hannah in the “Home” video that was posted. Only the other top 9 Idols were in that video backing up P2. However, I think that there is someone who looks like Hannah dancing and backing up Jessica during “Proud Mary” along with the other Idols and some other unidentified people.

    Thanks for identifying those other people onstage during that song. If other friends and family were onstage during that performance, then it’s a different situation than just Hannah being onstage (which is the impression that I had initially).

    Yes, and I’d add since there were so many crew members on stage as well I’d imagine most people in the audience likely would have just assumed she was a part of the crew.

    I have nothing against Hannah personally, but IF 19 paid for her being on the entire tour and the trip to the Phillippines (which I imagine would amount to thousands of dollars), then I would rather see that money split between the Idols who are the ones who are actually performing and who are not being paid enough by 19, IMO.

    Hannah isn’t really liked among P2′ small Idol fanbase…the ones on IDF anyways. That thread in his forums on IDF has over 100 + pages and almost 200,000 views! LOL From what I’ve seen over there they think either Hannah’ parents are paying for it (apparently, she comes from a rich fam) or P2/Idol. And in P2 IDF land  she’s a fame whore who wants some of P2′ fame. Pics of Hannah in the thread standing behind in Meet And Greets (supposedly, she attends the M&G but stands behind or off to the side and watches) and following/trailing right behind P2 to wherever. 

    IMO I don’t see where the problem is of her attending the shows, etc. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. And lbr here. P2 might never perform in those type of arenas again as a solo artist. Just being realistic. Maybe a precedent is set with the Idol winner now and next year the winner can bring along whoever. Who knows?

    Phillip is far from the first Idol winner to “work endlessly” — that is expected of every winner (and usually the runner-up as well).

    And he hasn’t made enough money to support an entire American Idol tour of the US, let alone sending them all off to Asia. Not even close. 

    If she is paying for all this travel herself, or if Phillip is paying for it, that’s cool. She certainly has the right to spend her own money, or her boyfriend’s money, to follow him around if that’s what they want to do.

    But IF 19 was the one footing the bill, that’s wrong. 19 shouldn’t be paying for her — she is not a trained nurse, after all. She’s what — 19 or 20? How far has she even gotten in her studies? They need someone who is an actual nurse or doctor looking after people’s health issues — not a student. That’s just cheap — not to mention potentially dangerous — what if something happened and she misdiagnosed what was wrong with him (or anyone else on tour, if she is supposed to be caring for everyone’s health)?

    And she shouldn’t be going on stage. Lots of Idols have had their family members at the final show, and the minors have had parents and/or siblings travel with them — as far as I know, none of them ended up going on stage.

    ETA — I saw a post that says DeAndre’s mom was on stage as well. If that’s the case, she shouldn’t have been up there, either. If you aren’t in the cast or the crew, stay off the stage. This is my opinion only, of course. YMMV.

    I don’t understand why Hannah is present at the M&Gs and if she’s always with P2, why has he been shown carrying a lot of crap (she should be doing that, or arranging to have it done).

    I guess I just don’t understand the big deal about any of the Hannah nonsense.  She’s not going on stage and performing with Phillip, and no, dancing once in the background for two minutes alongside about twenty five other people doesn’t count.  She’s not popping up in his interviews.  I don’t see her constantly popping up in pictures or trying to insert herself in photo ops with the Top 10.  It just seems like a lot of hype over nothing and the really over-invested Phil fans would be unhappy no matter who he dates.  Hannah was kind of in a no win situation no matter what, and since none of us know what her actual deal with 19 really happens to be, I can’t condemn her for things that are only speculation.

    In terms of Proud Mary, there may be other personal friends/family members on stage, but as I don’t follow every aspect of these kids lives, I don’t really know.  I had heard Jessica’s mom was on stage too, but I can’t spot her in the video.  Either way it’s two minutes or so out of a three month tour.  It’s not a big deal IMO.

    It’s highly doubtful that Phillip was wanted by the label early on.  Phillip stated in an interview with one of the entertainment reporters that he was cut early on during the tryouts for AGT and didn’t even get to perform for the producers (unlike his sister and brother-in-law).  And the most likely reason Phillip didn’t have “footprints” on YouTube is that he was not a media-savvy person before AI.  Phillip’s sister Ladonna commented in an interview with a local television station that she had to help him out with Twitter initially.  Before AI, he was just a shy guy who wanted to play music.

    Philip sounds like the type of contestant early Idol looked for.  May he continue to have success.

     Fuzzy – I was referring to the fact that Kellie is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in, which is kind of rare among celebrities.
