Where Are All The Pretty Boys?

Freddie Mercury is the ultimate rock frontman, all glitz and passion and soul and glitter. One of the highlights of Shereen Meraji’s piece on Freddie Mercury for NPR’s 50 Great Voices series is her interview with American Idol star Adam Lambert.

“There’s definitely something missing in today’s music, in the scene, ” Lambert says. “We don’t have a lot of men onstage doing flamboyant or theatrical. We have a lot of female pop stars doing it, but where are the guys, you know — where’s that classic rock — or pop — showman?”

Paula Abdul’s new dance show to debut soon, auditions to begin in fall; People aged 5 to 106 encouraged to apply

The former Laker Girl was seen as the “cheerleading” judge who offered a more sympathetic ear and words of encouragement, in contrast to Simon Cowell’s typically-acerbic tone and dry and sometimes insulting comments. Cowell left the singing contest series after the finale of its ninth season in May to start a new show – an American version of British talent series The X Factor.

“I needed some time to really kind of reflect on the amount of hard work that I put into American Idol, ” Abdul said about her departure from American Idol. “It was the biggest blessing of my life. I learned so much and it was so wonderful to be able to go back to my roots, where I was when I started, behind the camera, rooting and nurturing talent to take flight.”

Inside Emmy’s Big Ball: Lea Michele Cops a ‘Tude, Anna Paquin’s All Grins

The casts of Modern Family, 30 Rock, True Blood, and Glee were just some of the big names in attendance who celebrated with industry folks, and a few fans alike. But there were some babes who were not pleased with a few of the common folk roaming around (they paid upwards of $1000 to be there).

Any guesses as to which hottie pulled the diva card?

Piers Morgan Weighs In On ‘X Factor’ Auto-Tune Controversy At Emmys

Morgan also addressed murmurings that Susan Boyle, who competed on “Britain’s Got Talent” last year, had also been Auto-Tuned to improve her vocals. “You’ve heard Susan [Boyle] sing live here. Sounds the same. Complete baloney, ” he told MTV News on the red carpet at the “Entertainment Tonight” Emmy afterparty. “They also said we’re apparently scripted with our lines as judges. News to me. It would have made life a lot easier if someone had told me what to say!”

The bottom line, as explained by Morgan, is that people are making a big deal out of nothing. “I think it’s all been massively exaggerated, ” he explained. “I think everyone should calm down a bit. Susan sings better actually live than she does in the auditions anywhere. That’s what all the fuss is about anyway. I wouldn’t worry. It’s an entertainment show.”
