perfect as usual. Great Job HALEY!

Nice!!! thanks for the quality video for those of us outside the US. Enjoying the band, they sound really good.

  • http://twitter.com/billschly Bill Schly

When I first heard this song, I thought it was going to be a big hit – still do, although I don’t see it on the charts yet.  If everybody likes it as much as I do then it’s going to be big.

Haley looks and sounds so beautiful! I can’t wait for her album. I hope the single starts making some progress on the radio so everyone can hear her voice.

Really good to see her back with the full band, She, and they, looked and sounded great.  Can’t wait for May 22.

Haley looked lovely, but it’s such a boring song.  And she seemed a bit low energy here – not much zip.

She is so cute. She was so nice, and I am really looking forward to this album.

Her voice so reminds me of Amy Winehouse.  I wish Amy’s producers could get ahold of Haley.

    Such pretty hair!

My beloved Haley, you’re an angel that God put on this earth to brighten my life with your beauty and sweetness. I love you so much.

Haley was lovely as usual. She sounded great and looked great. :D Wish she had gotten an interview too, but it’s cool. Nerdy guys and bacon have their pros as well. lol

Loved seeing Conan hold up her album! Lucky guy. *WantMyCopyNow* Oh, and Haley standing next to him was priceless. She’s so tiny! Which only makes her more adorbz.<3

Padma Lakshmi ? @PadmaLakshmi:twitter  Just listening to Haley Reinhart. (Sp?) On Conan!!! She is so awesome.

Haley definitely has the “it” factor.  I think she will be around for a very long time.  The camera loves her & her vocal nuances are unparalled…

    great performance!

Haley is a great singer and she sounded good.
She did a little different more rock-flavored version of Free which I think is an improvement.
But I’m really looking forward to hearing the studio versions of all the other better tracks on her upcoming album.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dana-Sidle/100003317515727 Dana Sidle

Beginning was kind of shaky (nerves?) but once she got to the chorus it got awesome, as usual

  • Anonymous

BTW the look of pure joy and enjoying herself up there with Conan and crew makes all the talk about is “Free” a flop or hit irrelevant. The girl is doing her thang, singing and enjoying every moment of it.

LOL she had Conan’s entire and complete attention when they pulled away…. :D

i thought it was just me after seeing all the comments on here. Haley was my favourite last year by a long way, and I’ll probably buy her album, but this is the first time I’ve listened to this song and it certainly wasn’t a wow moment. I also thought she seemed very subdued like she was just going through the motions, seemed kind of unsure of herself which wasn’t like the Haley on Idol.

  • too-cool-for-school

Argh, is it May 22nd yet??

She did great and looks amazing too! Way to go, Haley!! :)

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MV64BS4FSISCASL4P656RXAFYQ Kayla

    Lovely!

  • Anonymous

Is there a law that says that every Idol performance HAS to be a wow moment? She did well enough. Based on tweets alone it looks like she’s made some new fans too. :)

She was probably a little nervous is all. Which is understandable.

  • http://twitter.com/Haleys_Scats Haley/Casey’s Scats

    Listen to the studio version.

  • Anonymous

That sounded good to me, awesome crowd reaction too.

I think Free is a great promo debut single. It’s there to give Haley something to sing as she gets word of her album out there. I believe the b.o.b. single (and video) will be the real chart-topper.

  • http://twitter.com/HaleysShindig HaleysShindig

Just checked, she is back in the Top 1000 on iTunes, sneaking her beautiful goldilocks in at #977

  • fuzzywuzzy

I’m a fan of Haley’s, but not too keen on this song.  She looked great, and after a bit of a shakey start, sounded very good.  Nice performance!

  • Anonymous

I’m a fan of Haley’s but still can’t warm up to Free.  It’s such a boring song.  I really wish they had chose something else for her first single.  But she did great as usual.

  • Anonymous

Love Haley-not a fan of the song-but it seems she got a bounce! Glad shes back on Itunes

  • Anonymous

I’m at the point that Haley can sing the phone book and I’d still be mesmerized. I just love listening to her and watching her. She definitely has the “it” factor and I’m still convinced she’ll be the most successful of the Season 10 Idols in a couple years (or less) in terms of sales and general popularity.

I can see what people are saying about the slightly shakey start but when she settled in, she did very very well.  Haley singing at 85% her normal quality still blows others away. Just love that voice.

FYI: My tween was in another room getting ready for school as I was listening to this performance and she stopped what she was doing to come for a better listen/look then said “That is a really good song.” I never expected that reaction! This girls lives and breathes top40 pop music.

  • Tess

I wish I could “understand” Haley better…maybe if I could discern what the lyrics are it would make the song more enjoyable.  Guess my hearing on lower range notes isn’t what it used to be or Haley has a tendency to mumble.  I just find the song “sleepy” and low energy and I find Haley a water color impression of more substantial female voices of the 50s….she has the talent, now she needs, for me, to find that special sauce that made those women such technicolor artists.

ETA: She also needs to ignore the camera if she continues with the deer in the headlights demeanor.

  • Anonymous

i didn’t mean that the performance had to be a wow moment, just that the song didn’t grab me, didn’t make me go ‘wow, I need to hear that again’,  its a bit boring.

  • Anonymous

She has such beautiful hair, I am aggravated they keep blondening it.

  • Anonymous

This is such a weird little song.  The occasional part of it gives me goosies, then it wanders around for a bit.  I’m never sure how I feel about it.

  • http://twitter.com/HaleysShindig HaleysShindig

Its the former, she enunciates just fine and its a ballad about breaking up, its not exactly meant to be a high-energy dance song. The song actually has a very positive message and is pretty empowering to a lot of people struggling with breaking it off with someone in a meaningful way.
“Water color impression”? Of who? Just curious. I mean that statement implies she is copying someone and doing a poor job of it.

  • http://twitter.com/HaleysShindig HaleysShindig

One problem has been the live performances (Here and AI) they’ve cut the original version of the song down by a verse or two, which, IMO, hurts the song. Watch the video to get the full effect of the song.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/57KPQ4K7HIGPGR7PDW333QMZJQ Steppen

Haley looked and did great, and Conan is certainly a great show for Haley’s intended target audience.  One note, though, is it just me, or did Haley gain some weight?

  • Tess

Thanks…I’ll go get my ears tested.  She is, for me, a poor copy of my 1950 gals…no slight to Haley, and I know for this generation she may be fresh and appealing but for me, having been around the proverbial block a few times, she just doesn’t have the zing that those girls had:  Peggy Lee, Jo Stafford, Lena Horne, Keely Smith, Rosemary Clooney, Connie Francis…and many others.  Their break-up songs left you pining for all the guys who had got away…or wishing you had had some to pine about.

I’m not saying that Haley doesn’t have potential…I just think she is on the bottom rungs of the ladder and needs lots of work and better material.  Will the industry give her time in this fast paced world where its number 1 or nowhere?

ETA: And “energy” doesn’t just equate with dance songs where someone bops around a stage. Someone standing in front of a mic without moving a muscle can create as much energy as a lightning strike on a lake at midnight.

  • HappyDaisy

Once Haley got the song off the ground, a fine performance.

Agree with chillj, she looks better when her hair is not quite so bleached.

Here’s the video for the single:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1ed3bSjqSI&ob=av2e

Her sound and style are retro yet refreshing.  Bought single and plan to buy album.

  • buzzenator

In terms of keeping your attention on the screen, Haley has always had that camera magnetism. One song does not an album make. If you haven’t heard “Now That You’re Here” from the same 1st album, you can get a sense of the direction she is going. Here’s a link to a live performance with partial band KCDA FM 103.1 in Spokane, Washington: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=miI1bYT5HjQ

  • justmefornow

It’s interesting reading the variety of reactions on here so I had to watch the video.
Still don’t like the song, just average and seems to go nowhere.

To me this is Haley’s problem, she’s just average to me; not terrible, but not great either. Her stage presence is average, her voice is average and her looks are average. Just nothing so special to stand out from the crowd.
But this is where different tastes and likes come in I guess. To some I’m sure she seems fantastic.

Regardless, I wish her luck with her album and if she tours, good luck with that too.

  • http://twitter.com/HaleysShindig HaleysShindig

I’ve been around the block a few times as well, not as many as you, but in four decades + enough to see that Haley is a unique singer and find it really hard to compare her to anyone and appreciate that about her. Its what put me on her “Soul Train” honestly.  I don’t think she personally is trying to be Peggy Lee, et al, but simply working with the unique instrument she has in the best way she knows how and enjoys.
Also, to be a poor copy of anything, she would have had to have said “I’m the next 50′s gal singer”. I don’t remember her ever saying that so I wonder if holding her to that standard is really an accurate baseline to use. I mean, your opinions are your opinions and I respect that and appreciate the respectful dialogue, but wondering if holding her to that standard instead of accepting her talent at its face value would be a consideration.

  • Anonymous

That’s fine. To be honest. “Free” didn’t grab me the first time I listened to it.

It’s one of those songs that grows on you over time. Definitely more of a low key yet still catchy tune. Though “Free” has proven to grab others after the first listen. Some of whom probably never saw her Idol run.(The more non-Idol based fans she has the better.)There’s something really special about Haley’s voice. I personally can’t get enough of it.

  • Tess

Its hard not to “see” and “hear” where Haley gets her influences…almost ALL singers have them.  She, also, has chosen to dress in a way that is reminiscent of an earlier era.  Her “influences” came across as early as Hollywood week for me….and so I tend to go there when I evaluate her…just like other singers get compared to their contemporaries or divas or rock bands of days gone by.  It’s a barometer….and I have a hard time “judging” without relating a performance to something that has moved me in the past.  Some “new” artists do a terrific job of topping the past singers I have enjoyed (and still listen to) some just fall short.

  • Anonymous

I love Haley, she my favorite female on the show ever  and i like the song , can’t wait for her album :) , BUT her people need to make sure she can perform the full version of the single and she needs to make sure she’s in total in character with the kind of music and retro style she is about to offer…in other words she need to create her own mini show on stage to sell the song and her music , from her clothes, to her stage movements to even the presentation of her band ….. if i look at the album cover and promo pictures, i will expecting some retro feeling in all the stage performance as well …….ummmmm not sure if i explain right :/
Of course she has an wonderful voice , but still a new artist that need to improve some aspects of her artistic side ….. i’m so confident on her talent anyway. ;)

  • Anonymous

I think for me the performance felt a litttle too sleepy.  Perhaps trying a little to hard for that jazzy sound.   I think sometimes young performers as they try on new things maybe go overboard with it.  She is talented and will figure it out.

  • Anonymous

I think what “they” are trying to do with Haley is really difficult.  I have no doubt she could sing a Clooney song straight up and do well with it (and I have a Rosemarie Clooney CD, which I honestly used to use to lull me to sleep when I had insomnia).  But they are trying to give torch songs a pop twist, which I think is why the songs confuse bit:  I’d rather hear jazz standards and I know she can do them.  She ends up being in-between pop and Jazz (or torch) in search of a new market, so the songs run a very thin line and pop people and jazz people both feel they want something a little different.

     Official video: http://teamcoco.com/video/haley-reinhart-free

    HQ video. Haley looks fine.

  • Steve Long

I get amused at those that want to compare her to some of the best female blue’s and Jazz singers from way back. If you want to really get technical, the voice mechanics is not what sells records. Look at the past 2 decades of pop. We are in a time where we love to be captivated by one’s personality more so than singing ability. Gaga, Katy Perry ect.. What seems to be pushing Haley over the top of what most people that come from Idol is that she is also and always be considered the underdog.
She came from Nowhere and now has wrote an entire album in the span of two years.  I say, stop with the comparison’s and just watch her grow and mature.
Its almost like, if she is not Mariah Carey good then meh..  lol

  • Anonymous

From what I’ve heard (five songs so far) Haley’s homage to the ’50s is more about the style and less about the music. Perhaps it’s her style of singing that reminds people of the ’50s more than the actual songs. And as far as “Free” is concerned I have no idea what decade of music it’s representative of. I haven’t been able to peg that one down. Anybody have any ideas?  Now a song like “We Are Young” by Fun reminds me of the primeval days of rock ‘n’ roll. I’ve watched some of those PBS nostalgia shows, and I can definitely hear the influence, but I don’t get that same feel with “Free.”

Now with Haley having done so many acoustic performances, she’s going to have to retool her vocals to perform with the full band. She’ll be fine, I’m sure. And, of course, I’m looking forward to the finished product, her album.

Haley has potential up the ying yang

“What seems to be pushing Haley over the top of what most people that come from Idol is that she is also and always be considered the underdog. She came from Nowhere and now has wrote an entire album in the span of two years.”

I think I would dispute all as idol bubble dripple. There are many underdogs on idol and in life and many artist who have written albumns with a lot less support.

Why is everyones favorite have to have it harder, be the most talented ever, the most down to earth, work  more then anyone else, be the only true artist and take their time in writing the most glorious album ever.

Truth even for my fav these are talented young people who got luckly and  played a game show and won a contract and made an album that hopefully will catch on and they will be fortunate enough to have a career somewhere between William Hung and Adele. But it is all a crap shot as to where they land no matter how much we love them.

  • Anonymous

This is the part that worries me a little bit – as a Haley fan I love everything about her, as most of her fans do.  But honestly, if I had been flipping through the channels last night and didn’t have any idea who Haley was, I wouldn’t have even stopped to listen for more than a minute.  The song – whatever style it is – is a sleepy, kind of boring song.  It just doesn’t do any justice to Haley at all, in my opinion.  I have no idea what they were thinking when they released it as her first single, or what kind of impression they were trying to make, but my worry is it’s not making any impression at all.

  • sf3456

Why don’t more Idols do Conan?  It’s the only way I get to see them on these late night talk shows since he’s the only one I watch.

  • Anonymous

That was terrible, and she doesn’t look good there either, hate the frazzy hair.  She is actually wearing pants for a change.  This songs is just not great, which is why it has not taken off.  Wrong choice for the first single

  • Anonymous

I just looked at the video.  Much, much better.  The song changes rhythm and they try to get changes in the chopped up version they probably should just forget.  The song actually has a very good hook.

  • Tess

I think that many modern pop singers get a really bad rap, especially within the bubble.  Personally I think GaGa has a great instrument, as does Pink and definitely Adele.  Amy had it, Beyonce is unbelievable, even Jordin has a great tool.  And even though people may crap all over them Avril and Christina are wonderful singers. And lets not forget our own Kelly.  And I haven’t even touched on the divas.  They aren’t all bubbles without the champagne.

I compare Haley to other era singers because that seems to be where her voice leads me…and my criticism would be much harsher if I compared her to those I have listed above…especially just limiting the comparisons to the “voice” without even touching the “IT” factor.

  • Itsmekg

In the voice of Steven Tyler – “It just laid there” there is no get up and go to this song for me…

I can never listen to the whole song.

  • Steve Long

As with any other singer, the album pre-release banter does not truly represent likability or the dislike of said artist.  I normally hold feelings one way or another until the actual studio album can be heard in it entirety.  The scope of work is what defines the artist not a single that seems sleepy. Again, lets just wait until all her chips are on the table before we go bashing or putting her on this high pedestal. She is still very green in the biz. I think we can all see that.

  • Anonymous

Haley compares favorably with any of the above in terms of voice as evidenced by her performances on AI and on this performance. Her voice is very distinctive and appealing. As to the song .. its compares well to any debut from an Idol that I can think of. Usually idol debuts are very generic and do little to distinguish the singer from the crowd. Haley had a chance to do the usual standard generic route with a single straight off the show but decided to wait and do something to promote herself as an artist. Great job IMO!

  • Anonymous

i really do like Haley’s style. i just wish she did what she does…how do you say this…BETTER. she falls short for me every single time.

  • Anonymous

Haley’s voice is just as distinctive and powerful as the ladies you mentioned. IMO Her’s is one of the most distinct to come from Idol.

Also. She’s one of the few from AI10(As talented as that bunch is.)to truly possess an IT factor, but what do I know…I’m just an Idol fan. Not a music expert. *shrugs*

  • http://twitter.com/swansteel swansteel

Haley’s voice is a glorious thing.  I love the texture of it so much–sort of like tearing silk.  I can watch her and listen to her endlessly, and seeing her here with her band was so much fun.  Breezy seems to really enjoy playing the drums and the rest of the band sounds really good.  (A part of me thinks I may have worked with Courtney years ago, but the age doesn’t seem quite right, so it probably isn’t possible.  Ha.)  Now let’s get Haley on some more shows, especially some of the big network ones.

  • Itsmekg

I am going to buy Haley’s CD, because I know this isn’t the only song on there.  With most CDs if you can find at least 4 songs to like you did good.  If this CD manages to catch me on more than 4 songs then that is phenomenal!!!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F3XJE5GRAUMYR7Y5RYZUW7SC4U md

I have heard songs from GaGa, Pink, Adele, Amy, Beyonce, Avril, Christina and Kelly. I haven’t listened to them repeatedly nor sought them out. I have with Haley’s performances. That’s how I define the “IT” factor. I’m not alone either.

  • Anonymous

    Very good performance!

  • Itsmekg

The only one on that list that I am a stan for is Beyonce.  I listen to her music over and over and over.  Especially B’day and 4.

I only heard Adele’s songs because of Haley, but after that I never sought out any of her music.  When she performs, I don’t find anything special about her voice – shrug’s shoulders.

Gaga – I never liked her because of her oddness.  I have heard from others that she does have vocal talent, but I couldn’t get past all of her crap-ola to take a listen.

I have heard a few of Pink’s songs, and I like them but she isn’t sought after for my music collection.

My favorite Christina song happened when she first came out and that was “What A Girl Wants/Likes” never checked for her after that.

Kelly – both my children loved her on AI, I never listened to her, only when she makes an appearance on AI.

Avril – Don’t even know what she looks like, let alone any of her music.

Haley – has my money though; as well as Adam.  As much as I liked Allison when she was on Idol, I never bought her CD (sad face).  So to sum this up, Adam and Haley have been my must buy Idols.

  • Ringo

Self admitted Haley stan here, but I try to be realistic and rational too.  I think its helpful to break down Haley into her voice and her styling.  For me, her voice is more distinctive and unique, richer and more enjoyable, than almost any of the current singers out there.  In terms of her styling — the way she uses her voice and connects with a song – I don’t think that she is consistently top-flight as she could be and will be.

If she would sing every song emoting the way she did on “I Who Have Nothing,” or even “Baby It’s Cold Outside” then I would be in heaven.  But she is young yet. Right now, I think Haley is concentrating more on the singing than on the meaning of the song.  Much of this is the producer or mentors she has access to, I think.  (I find evidence of this in the video of “Free,” which strikes me as completely disconnected to the meaning of the song.)  I wonder what she would have done differently on “Free” with Gaga at the helm.

That’s why comparing her to Peggy Lee, Lena Horn, and others is a bit unfair even assuming that they were as good as you imagined. (I love Peggy and Rosemary C.; I was never touched by Lena or Connie F.)  We judge these performers by their entire careers and often their later work, overlooking their earlier performances (when the were the same age as Haley is.)  After some bad relationships and adult living, I think Haley wiill give us even more.  In the meantime, I have her gorgeous voice — which is 90% of what I am listening for.

  • Anonymous

I think Haley has a wonderful voice. It’s distinctive with range and she sings with nuance and finesse. She rarely over sings. I think some people consider women singers with huge voices as superior singers to those with a more subtle approach. I don’t think singers have to hit you over the head.

I think Free is an ok song. It’s not great–it’s doesn’t suck–average. I don’t think it’s particularly memorable. I don’t think most songs I hear from idol albums are that memorable.

I believe lot of the problem with music these days is that there are too many songwriters on each song. It seems that a song can’t be written without 3,4,5 or more writers. This is taking the individuality and heart out of music today. It’s music by committee and formulation.

  • Anonymous

Free’s  subject matter is pretty darn good.. and I’d think sort of useful and not really covered.

How common is it to be attatched to someone you know just isn’t right long term in a relationship, espeically while younger and looking for someone to spend (or at least hope to) a life with.

How many friends to you know that struggle on and off for years with someone and end up not getting married after all that messyness.   People in love, but just not right for each other.  The song implies a sexual attraction and attatchment on top.

But, maybe they don’t have the same long term goals.. Perhaps the guy is a flake that won’t ever hold a decent job.  Perhaps he’s nice to you but won’t fit into your family.. mom dad brothers.. all vital to who you marry.(if you have that cultural background of tight extended families).

Bicker about everything..frustrated about what they do.. yet, attracted to them emotionally and physically..bound by the good times in the past where the future didn’t matter?

Great song..nice voice.. BUT.. I’d agree.. it is a bit sleep especially the first 5 times you listen to it.. which some might not get through.  AFter that.. it starts sticking in your head and . you start aticpating the little mini runs and inflections which makes any music exciting to me.

  • pj

I like Free.  I think Haley has a ton of potential.

And scanning this, someone said Christina and Avril get a lot of flack but they have good voices?  Yes to Christina.  No, no, no to Avril.

Well congrats to the people who have learned to express their negative opinions with positive words, maturity works in your favor. Now for my opinion :) Haley is a Star no matter how you look at it, If its not your cup of tea that’s great, I myself love it. today’s country music,IMO its more like music for beginners, IMO Rap is poetry with a beat, Today’s rock…well honestly, IMO there is none.
Pop is  sexualized ,teenie boys for the woman and boobs-a-poppen girls for the guys.the lyrics have no meaning and as long as the song has a catchy dance beat everyone loves it . No one truly listens to the lyrics anyway and those that do want what they had in the past, without change. Don’t get me wrong there are a lot of great artist out there, the fact is that they can not use their artistic abilities because people would not buy the albums, coloring book and crayons and that the gist of it all.

Haley is a modern retro girl, bringing her own paint. meaning she loves the old style music but with the modern dance twist, and a jazzy, soulful interlude, truly a tough mix but she expresses it magnificently. Haley is not trying to mimic anyone from the past or the present, Haley is just being Haley, its her dream, her vision. If you listen to the words and allow the instrumentals to fill the air you will understand

Haley’s clothes? I think you are nitpicking but I will explaine it for you.Haley has a style of her own (vision) Haley would wear her Mom’s clothes when she was growing up and shop for outfits at the thrift stores because she liked the old style of clothing, not a gimmick to sell her album, its who she is .

People who say Haley is fat, simple. Get A Life!!!!!!!!!!! Sticks are what falls lifeless to the ground .

The blogs and bloggers keep saying during the live AI performances this season how Hollie Cavenaugh looks like she is thinking every move, which was taking away from the spontaneity and emotional connection (at least until last week).  I never completely understood what they were talking about with Hollie, but in this performance from Haley I know what they mean! It looks like every nuance is preplanned. Its like she is performing behind a glass wall.  I didnt feel any emotional connection.  I like Haley, but I remember feeling this sometimes with her AI performances as well–it was when the judges pissed her off that she would channel that frustration and anger into some great performances, but otherwise there would often be this emotional disconnect. Come on, Haley, you can do better!!-

  • Anonymous

I guess the more exposure Haley gets the more I should expect more negative, unfounded (IMO) remarks.  I am, however, glad to see the positive and hopeful remarks far outdistancing those that seem to get off going around posting negative remarks about a performer.

The same posters posting the same thing in each article.
I just don’t get it.  I don’t see what value there is to follow someone around just to post the same negative remarks over and over each time an article about that performer appears.  We get it.  You don’t like her.Everyone has different tastes… so here’s an idea…. post positive remarks in support of performers you do like.  Support your favorites instead of following someone you don’t like just to disparage them…. :P

I also don’t understand this idea of only taking someone who’s starting their career seriously IF they can be compared to “legendary singers”.  Comparing a new artist to artists with a lifetime’s work?….. That makes no sense…. rarely does anyone start off a ‘legend’.  Even your legendary singers started off green and needing experience.

Whatever your personal opinion of Haley, she has moved many and entertained many.  She has not changed her vision of her style from the first time we met her on AI and she has followed though on her vision all the way up to this point.  Interscope has more than shown that they trust in her instincts and has done a great job in promotion to support her vision.

It is yet to be determined if this vision catches with the general public to the point of Stardom, but what is clear is she was born to perform and will be happy if she never reaches Iconic stature such as Adele or GaGa, as long as she can make a living making music.  Personally I think the sky is the limit with Haley’s potential.

I have already bought my ticket and look forward to Haley and co. performing at Lollapalooza as the FIRST Idol EVER in 10+ years to perform at the festival.

Average? Really? I would love to know who from AI is actually considered great to you.

One person’s “sleepy boring song” is anothers “engaging jazzy mid-tempo” song. There is an audience for that believe it or not. I don’t need to convince anyone, honestly, all you have to do is look up her mentions from people seeing her for the first time on Conan last night on Twitter. Lets just say she left a great impression on quite a few people who had never heard of her and weight that into our perceptions.

Haley average ?? LOL that is a word i never would associate to Haley ….. her voice and style still are refreshing and the point is that she is just starting her career so is obvious she will evolve and grow like performer . like every atist out there ;) ….can’t wait not only to buy her album , but to see her on concert :)

Simple, I found Scotty to be a great Country singer. He had that old school country sound with an incredible low range in his voice you don’t often hear. That made him unique. Even though I’m not a fan of country, I can appreciate his unique voice.

And I found James’ 5 octive range incredible. I hadn’t heard a Rock voice that incredible in at least 15 to 20 yrs. And being a Rock fan, he became my favorite. He also had incredible stage presence from the get go on Idol. Scotty developed his over time.

I considered them both great last season.

I could understand Scotty’s appeal(even though I’m not a fan), but I’m sorry I couldn’t help from giggling at the rest of your post. lol

I can’t get through a James or Scotty song without turning it off one minute in so I guess its subjective as to what average or great is. Average is only a useful term in mathematics as a rule, not The Arts.

     Myles Kennedy is no slouch.

  • justmefornow

I agree. But I prefer James. His vocals are crisper and clearer. Just personal preference.

  • justmefornow

Whatever. Obviously not a metal fan. Not many at an Idol blog so I’ve noticed. lol

  • justmefornow

Like I said in my post, it’s just my opinion. Everyone has one. That why I said to others she may seem fantastic. Obviously she does to you.

haha, I’m actually in a metal band.

If someone asked me to choose one song, one movie, one book…I couldn´t. There is so much out there to choose from, so many books, so many movies, so many artists to choose from, to share with friends, to find or give meaning to a specific point in your life. so many reasons why some material appeal to you or not, so it seems odd to come here and judge or be judged by my preferences….

Haley appeals to me and I don´t see the need to defend my point of view in every post that is made here or in any site that I visit. I don´t want to have to defend my choice, I wanna enjoy it and maybe share it with others that feel alike.

I like real metal artists. James is just a poser IMO. A real metal artist wouldn’t have been so emotional during his elimination when he was standing next to Scotty waiting for the inevitable results. lol

His performance of “Will you still love me tomorrow” was one of the best of season 10 however. So I’ll give him that.

So I was almost going to give up into reading this. But thanks to Haley to give us something to talk about, huh? What really pains me regardless was that post of saying Haley is “average” got 17 likes *sigh*. But then I realized it comes from a season 10 fan nonetheless. So I was worried somebody fan of a veteran and superstar Idol was actually laying some truth, made me concerned for a while. But it seems are comments from s10 fans, now that’s just not helpful in the least and totally inaccurate. And could not be more irrelevant to me as I think Haley not only displays such a huge amount of qualities I haven’t seen on not just any idol of any season before but on any other singer overall, let alone from someone from season 10. That would be dismissing all her talent, that would be a tragic loss. And now those comments about being an imitation from 50′s singers, that’s just too much. But I guess that’s what Haley gets into for having such a style and being very ambitious with her music vision. But that’s what makes Haley, Haley. If she wouldn’t be doing this kind of music, she would be a bland pop singer and people wouldn’t even be talking about her. Or maybe even more people would, but at least not me and basically every fan she currently has. She gives us, her fans, faith on putting some great quite unique music on the mainstream. So I mean will America will give her a chance, or American Idol can only produce country singers? Only bland, generic, pasty music seems to come out from this show. I think Haley can give American idol another level and authenticity on some different kind of music. At least that’s what I trust her album would do.
