Glee Star Samuel Larsen Cuts Off His Dreads (Photos)

Glee star Samuel Larson, who plays Christian student, Joe Hart on the FOX musical comedy has cut his hair.

You might be thinking “so what” but the singer, who landed his part on Glee after winning the inaugural season of The Glee Project in 2011, is immediately recognizable by his long, long, dreadlocks:

Samuel also wore the dreads while he was a popular Hollywood contestant during Season 9 of American Idol.

Now he’s cut off his dreads for a new look, and I wonder if the new do is a signal that he’s moving on from Glee? He didn’t appear in many episodes towards the end of the season, so I have to wonder if his arc is finished. If he were still on the show, cutting off his dreads could cause a wee bit of a continuity problem as the action is reportedly to pick right up where things left off at the end of the May 9 finale.

Vanessa Lengies who plays Sugar Motta, left Glee to co-star in the new ABC comedy, Mixology, complained that she barely got to act in the two seasons she spent on the show. I’m going to miss Sugar Motta. But to be honest, between Samuel’s wooden acting, and his poorly written character, I never could warm up to Joe Hart.

Getting back to the HAIR. Here’s Samuel’s new do. What do you think? It’s something different.

He has feminine features to me. Hate the nose ring. Other than that, after a beer or so i’d…oh. Yeah he looks better without the dreads lol.

LMAO. I don’t know I think he looks kind of hot with the dreads. Is he a gay because he looks gay.

I thought he was gay too, lol not that it matters if he is or isn’t. I dont really like the new look but oh well. His character on glee bored me anyway.

Not sure, but I don’t think he is gay lol

I don’t think I have seen enough of him to know if he can act or not, but if he plans to continue in that vein the dreads are limiting. And IMO he’s better looking w/o them. He looks like a cooler version of Clark Kent in the picture of him wearing glasses

  • No Thanks

He’s not gay. I’ve seen him around town with his girlfriend.

How exactly do you “look gay”? Some friends of mine that are gay don’t have a “look” in common.

I loved him in the Glee Project and really hoped for success for Samuel. However, how can he improve his craft if he isn’t working at it? I enjoyed his antics in the making of the calendar. He’s a very handsome young man and I would suggest he taking acting lessons and further work on his voice. I did like him very much!

I think he looks much better. Like the new look and the GLEE writers did him no favors.

Leaving or not. Dreads or not. Still kinda dumb how he never got a solo. Blake got several, Damian got a few, Alex got some, and even Lindsay got… two?

  • Joe Daniels

Clark Kent is a lot cooler, Henry Cavill and Tom Welling Clark anyway. What’cha talking ’bout?

  • emme1000

He’s going to regret that….just like Felicity.

  • Landon Cox

    Maybe his boyfriend is Jesus

I had high hopes for him after he sang that cute “stereohearts” song in Season 3… but as another poster said earlier.. he had not even one solo in Season 4… the idea of him playing a “homeschooled Christian kid” was actually a good idea… How to be reintroduced into the schoolworld… with all the awkward social interactions.. Pity they did not delve deeper in it..

“between Samuel’s wooden acting, and his poorly written character, I never could warm up to Joe Hart.”

We have no idea if the guy can act or not, exactly because of the poorly written character. Nobody could have delivered most of the lines he was given without looking wooden… it got downright painful at times! Samuel is talented as all get-out. I’m a fan. But Glee has done him no favors at all, and I’d just as soon see him gone from the show.

Oh… and the more I look at the photos, the less I care for the haircut. The dreads were great. Short all the way would have been great (come on, the guy is gorgeous no matter what!). But the floppy in-between business doesn’t do it for me.

H.A., I was hoping you’d come back and explain what you meant, he “looks gay.” All I see is a gorgeous hot guy!

  • Reflects On Life

His dreads make him look like he just got back from a week at Burning Man but hasn’t jumped in the shower yet. The haircut brings more attention to his fine bone structure and delicate eyes. I vote haircut.

    hot either way.

  • Jennifer Rose

    Damn…..he’s really hot…
