Glee Season 6 Spoilers Episode 6 The World Needs 6x06

Glee Season 6 Spoilers Episode 6 – What The World Needs Now – Burt Bacharach tribute

I don’t have any exclusive spoilers for Glee 6×06, so instead, here’s a roundup of details gathered from news sources and social media sites like twitter and tumblr. As always WATCH THIS SPACE FOR UPDATES. Here we go!

Glee Episode 6 is titled “What The World Needs Now”–just like the song. And indeed, the episode, which airs Friday February 6. is a tribute to the legendary songwriter, Burt Bacharach.  The kids will be singing eight of the master’s timeless tunes. Episode 5, “The Hurt Locker Part 2” airs this week, and if you need to catch up, you can click to listen to Glee episode 6×05 songs or click for 6×05 spoilers.

Mercedes (Amber Riley) and Artie (Kevin McHale) return to Lima after missing a few shows. Santana’s (Naya Rivera) grandmother (Ivonne Coll) returns to make amends with her granddaughter. And in a wacky turn of events, we meet Brittany’s (Heather Morris) parents, played by Ken Jeong and Jennifer Coolidge. Also, Brittany’s cat, Lord Tubbington aka Agronis back!

Here’s the episode summary from FOX Studios

As Brittany and Santana plan their wedding, Artie is recruited to be the wedding planner. While Santana struggles with the fact that her disapproving grandmother – with whom she hasn’t spoken since coming out as a lesbian – refuses to attend, Brittany takes matters into her own hands. Fresh off their unexpected win at Sue’s Show Choir Invitational, Rachel and Kurt give the gleeks their weekly assignment: the music of Burt Bacharach, and recruit reigning diva Mercedes to act as a mentor for the new singers. While Mercedes is supportive of Rachel’s new career path, she is committed to convincing her to not abandon her dreams of something bigger and better… namely Broadway. To that end, she tells Rachel she’s arranged an audition for her for a new, upcoming Broadway musical, and tries to inspire a resistant and gun-shy Rachel to take another shot at her dreams of stardom. Meanwhile, despite agreeing to stay just friends, Rachel and Sam try to negotiate bigger feelings they may or may not have for each other, but it takes the advice of an interested third party to move things along; and Brittany learns a shocking family secret, including the origins of her remarkable mathematical prowess.

You will recall that Brittany and Santana got engaged in episode 3.  Here, the two return to Lima to plan their wedding. A big part of the story is how both deal with their families.  In Santana’s case, she’ll make amends with the grandmother who disowned her back in Season 3, after Santana came out. The family secret Brittany learns may be that her father, named Pierce Pierce is Asian (a robot?) and is a math genius.

UPDATE: In a NEW BTS, Lea Michele reveals that Mercedes gives her blessing to Rachel and Sam’s burgeoning romance. Also, the 700th number, “What the World Needs Now” has the choir dedicating a song  to Brittany and Santana to give them a little love, but also, says Lea, “inviting ourselves to the wedding.”

There’s a production still (scroll through the photo gallery below!) that depicts a crying Rachel (Lea Michele) being comforted by Mercedes. Rachel and Sam kick off the musical numbers with a duet of “What The World Needs Now,” sung at McKinley. Mercedes, alsong with Rachel, Brittany and Santana as backup glam up for “Wishin’ and Hopin'” (See production stills gallery below). The boys sing “Arthurs Theme” in the auditorium with top hats (See production stills) and the episode ends with the title song!

There is also a scene that has Artie, Sam (Chord Overstreet), Blaine (Darren Criss) and Brittany dressed in white angel outfits, on a very heavenly looking set (Check out the BTS photo gallery)
