Dancing With The Stars 15 – Week 8 – Recap and Videos

Which two couples will go home this week? I think Kirstie Ally will be safe. Although she is the weakest dancer by far, she’s the most famous “all-star” left. I’m going to guess that Apolo and either Emmitt or Kelly go home. I don’t think any of them have the strong fan bases the others do.  We’ll see! Who do you think is going home?

Seven stars remain with only TWO WEEKS REMAIN. The trios return. It’s a double elimination on Tuesday! Uh. There was a very awkward introduction with a wide shot of an empty stage, then ABC cut to commercial. TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES?

OK. We’re back. THAT WAS THE MOST AMAZING OPENING WE”VE EVER HAD. Says Tom. He admits to Tech problems, but does not elaborate.

Each of the couples will dance two routines. The All-Stars will be honoring veterans this week. Some are sitting in the audience.

Shawn and Derek – Viennese Waltz – Derek is back this week! Shawn is very happy. Uh oh, Shawn will be required to show some emotion this week. Not her strong suit. Very nice lines from Shawn! Not very emotion, but extremely elegant. Len says, “This was quiet, gentle, I would have liked a little more in hold. But poignant.” That was heavenly perfection. Touched by an angel. The shapes and figures were exquisite. Carrie Ann says, “You’ve turned into this in-depth performer. Very magical.” – Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 9.5, Bruno – 10 – 29.51-800-868-3402

Apolo and Karina – Tango – Apolo is frustrated to only get 9s. The couple will not be playing safe this week. Apolo flies across the stage on a zipline to save Karina. That wasn’t very impressive. Karina stole the show. Apolo just isn’t popping. NICE GUNS HOWEVER. Bruno says, “Those guns are fully loaded. I loved it.” Carrie Ann says, “It was amazing. Your lines were rediculous.” Len says, “You’re my hero, It was full on attack. It was great.” Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 9.5m Bruno, 10 – 29.51-800-868-3407

Kristie and Maks – Viennese Waltz – These dances tonight are REALLY SHORT. Not much time to do damage. Without much heavy lifting involved, Kirstie did a very elegant, beautiful job. Len says, “Your best dance, well done.” Bruno says, “Very stylish, very elegant, Well done.” Carrie Ann would like to see Kirstie tackle something a little more difficult next time. Carrie Ann – 9, Len – 9, Bruno – 9 – 271-800-868-3412

Shout out to some military guys in the audience who are featured on The Middle.

Kelly and Val – Viennese Waltz – Kelly is NOT feeling confident! But they did a very nice job. I don’t know what Len is talking about. Val did a great job choreographing a beautiful waltz with some lovely touches. There were Len says, “I thought it was a little bit sharp on occasions. It flowed nicely.” Carrie Ann disagrees! Bruno says, “Twinkling twirler. You never lost the beat. She was giving all of her soul.” Carrie Ann says, “You are always pushing yourself to the edge. You are growing every week.” – Carrie Ann – 9.5, Len – 9, Bruno – 9.5 – 28 – Vak is talking as if he expects to be eliminated this week. – 1-800-868-3411

Gilles and Peta – Quickstep – Gilles’ scores have been slipping the last couple of weeks, so he’s hoping to get perfect scores this week. Don’t know if he’ll get a perfect score, but he’ll probably come close to it what a very crisp routine. Bruno says, “Fast, Slick Efficient. Top Gun!” Carrie Ann says, “That was ALMOST Top Gun. There were a few little slips in his feet. But it was so good.” Len says, “This was thunder and lightning. Energy, speed and control.” Carrie Ann – 9.5, Len – 10, Bruno – 10 – 29.5 – Gilles is psyched to get a 10 from Len. He also thanks America for saving France from the Germans – 1-800-868-3410

Emmitt and Cheryl – Viennese Waltz – I could hardly keep my eyes on that. Dullsville, especially if you compare his risk-free routine to Kelly and Shawn. Carrie Ann says, “That was very smooth, that you slipped a bit. I want to see you push yourself.” Len says, “This man puts the ooo in smooth. I would have loved a little fluidity. I liked it.” Bruno says, “It was smart and it was classic. It was very very nice.” In other words BORING. – Carrie Ann – 9, Len – 9.5, Bruno 9.5 – 28 1-800-868-3413

Melissa and Tony – Quickstep – 1-800-868-3406 – The routine is an ode to World World II and the Andrews Sisters. It’s very fast and intricate. Len says, “It was quick, there was lots of steps, it was bright. That was the bees knees.” Bruno says, “I want to join the Navy! Like watching Ann Miller and Gene Kelly. Fantastic.” Carrie Ann says, “I salute you guys! Awesome job.” Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 10, Bruno – 10 – 301-800-868-3406

The next round? THREESOMES. Heh heh.

Shawn and Derek and Mark – Samba – An African themed Samba, with elements of African dance. Derek and Mark shirtless. OK THIS IS PRETTY FREAKING HOT THANK YOU. Len says, “It was very self indulgent. There was very little Samba contact. If you go home tomorrow, don’t blame me.” Bruno says, “I got jungle fever. As art it was absolutely fantastic. Intoxicating animal quality. But even I have to admit, it wasn’t really a samba.” Carrie Ann says, “I disagree. Sometimes you have to take a risk. It was executed with perfection.” Carrie Ann and Len are fighting. But the truth is, the viewers don’t give a crap how much samba was in the dance. That was sexy and stunning and will get a ton of votes. Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 7, Bruno – 9 – 2693.5 – CROWD IS BOOING.

Apolo and Karina and Sasha – Jive – Oooh. TWO BOYS. Hooray. Greased Lightning. Blargh. This will be difficult for Apolo. He’ll be mirroring what Sasha dances. Any mistakes will be obvious. He does fine, but the choreography isn’t special. Bruno says, “You took a huge risk with this. You conquered it. It was like watching twins.” Charyl says, “I’ve never seen you shine brighter. One of your best.” Len says, “It was fast, it was sharp, it was tight, it was together. Carrie Ann – 9.5, Len – 9.5, Buno – 10 – 2991.5

Kirstie and Maks and Tristan – Paso Doble – There are all going to be angels. Well, that was odd. No capes. But Kirstie punches out the dark forces to knock them out. It’s a biblical story (Good vs. Evil) but kind of hilarious, because Kirstie’s dancing is so wack- Carrie Ann says, “It was a little sloppy. Creative choice.” Len says, “It had aggression and attitude, but lacked finesse.” Bruno says, “It was like watching the Valley of the Dolls. As a Paso Doble it could have been more refined.” – Carrie Ann – 8, Len – 8, Bruno – 8 – 2479–  Kirstie is NUTS.

Kelly and Val and Louis – Jive – Yay for the return of Louis! The guys strip down YAY. Great job Louis and Val choreographing this fast and fun routine. Everybody looks great! At the end, VAL PLANTS A BIG WET KISS ON LEN. He doesn’t seem thrilled. Len says, “I liked the end. It had the F factor, Fun, Flamboyant. Well done.” Bruno says, “You held it together beautifully.” Carrie Ann says, “The transitions were fantastic.” – Carrie Ann – 9.5, Len – 9.5, Brumo – 9.5 – 28.592.5

Gilles and Peta and Chelsie – Salsa – Hm. This is pretty good, but nothing wow about it. Peta and Chelsie are stunning. Bruno says, “Ménage à trois comes naturally to you. You lost timing a couple of times.” Carrie Ann agrees, “Your musicality was a little off. You took control of the dance floor.” Len says, “I thought you exposed yourself. You were out there doing it. There was nothing camouflaged. Full on. Well done. Carrie Ann – 9.5, Len – 10, Bruno – 9.5 – 29 92

Emmitt and Cheryl and Kym – Salsa – Lots of booty shaking going on, right there. Emmitt is fun to watch when he goes Latin. He really has no shame! But I’m not convinced this routine earned a perfect score… Carrie Ann says, “This time you were in the red hot salsa zone. Boy can you handle your women.” Len says, “The choreography was very clever. Knockout.” Bruno says, “You do it naturally. It’s great to see.” Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 10, Brumo – 10 – 3092.5

Melissa and Tony and Henry – Paso Doble – Melissa plays THE DOMINATRIX. She is a beautiful dancer, but I think she could have embodied the character more fiercely. Len says, “You were like a frisbee. You impressed me the most.” Bruno says, “Queen bee! You were flamboyantly fabulous. Thing of beauty.” Carrie Ann says, “I love seeing you so in control out there.” Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 10, Bruno – 10 – 3099 – Two perfect scores for Melissa.

Melissa and Tony – 99
Shawn and Derek – 93.5
Kelly and Val – 92.5
Emmitt and Cheryl – 92.5
Gilles and Peta – 92
Apolo and Karina – 91.5
Kirstie and Maks – 79

Len HATES Derek. Come on.. 9.5?!

  • Chris

Apolo can save me any time!  Swoon, fabulous tango.

  • supersonic

The dances seem extra short tonight.

And yes, Len either hates Derek or he has him on a different set of standards.

  • http://twitter.com/sublymonal andrew rogers

Lol @ all you people saying they hate Derek. They’re trying to get you vote harder for him. The people they really hate are Maks and Val. Which is a shame because they’re great dancers.

  • supersonic

    Melissa is being propped.

  • http://twitter.com/bentley1530 Bentley1530

I am not the biggest Shawn fan but that was really something!

  • supersonic

Len sucks.  I bet he gives them a 6 or lower.  And then boring ass Melissa gets another 30.

  • http://twitter.com/raya4 raya

I don’t really blame the judges honestly.  If you are assigned a samba then IMO you should dance a samba.  I’m not saying it wasn’t a cool dance,  but if they continually get rewarded for “breaking the rules” what is to stop the dancers from coming out and doing a freestyle every week and just ignoring the assignments all together.  It’s not like Derek hasn’t gotten a pass numerous times before.  That said, the viewers will eat it up and they are in no danger tomorrow night.

  • supersonic

Actually, samba has roots in African tribal dancing.  I say it had enough in there to be considered a samba.  It was entertaining and it was an excellent, awesome performance.  I guess they’re supposed to be safe and boring like Melissa.  They’ll get 10s.

  • http://twitter.com/bentley1530 Bentley1530

OK so I am already over watching three people dance

  • Chris

Both Mark and Derek have been on this show for years and they have been punished before based on a lack of content.  They just sometimes get so caught up in choreo that they thumb their nose at Len or Carrie Ann and her “lift police” comments.

If that had thrown in a few samba rolls or something, they could have gotten a 30.

  • http://twitter.com/raya4 raya

I don’t agree that it had enough samba content so we disagree there, but it bothers me more because it’s not even the first time Derek has done that this season.  But who can blame him really because last time he choreographed more of a freestyle for Shawn they got a pass and great scores from the judges.  I’m not saying the dances should be safe and boring and I didn’t think Melissa’s dance was all that either, but I chalk that up to Tony’s not so exciting choreography skills.  I just don’t believe for a second that Derek couldn’t find ways to be creative while sticking a bit more closely to the assigned dances.  It just seems like he expects to get a pass because he’s almost always gotten one before.

ETA: I think Mark has sometimes gotten called on some of his ridculousness. Bristol as a gorilla anyone? Derek very rarely gets called out on anything.

I remember reading a few years ago that the audience scores matter a lot more than the judges scores because judges scores are so close together.  So it makes sense to play to the audience rather than the judges.

Derek doesn’t expect to get a pass.  He knew he was taking a risk.  He requested that song so he knew what he wanted to do.  It’s the all star season.  You’re supposed to take risks.  Shawn and Derek have been taking risks all season and they’ve been called out all season.  Maybe not by Carrie Ann and Bruno, but they have been by Len.

  • http://twitter.com/raya4 raya

Oh, I agree.  As long as the judges aren’t giving you a 3 and everyone else a 10 you will be totally fine.  Viewer votes are far more important.  Playing to the audience totally makes sense.  Just don’t act all offended though when the judges knock you if you choose to go that route.

  • supersonic

Watch Melissa get another 30 for this boring dance.

  • supersonic

Exactly.  Just like Shawn and Derek did with their quickstep.  That was for the audience.  This samba was, too.

  • Chris

The judges I think are killing Melissa.  2 perfect 30s, a 29 the week before, she won’t win because fans aren’t motivated.

  • http://twitter.com/cindydesigns Cindy Moniz

I loved both of Melissa’s dances.  This girls voting for her. I’ve loved Melissa all season but with Sabrina gone, my votes are going to her. :)

  • supersonic

She’s being propped.  They want Kirstie out of there so they have to prop Melissa to do that.  Just like how it didn’t work with Sabrina, I hope it doesn’t work for Melissa.

  • mmmtx

I love Derek and Shawn and want to see them in the finals mainly because Derek is such an exquisite choreographer and really knows how to play to his partner’s strengths.  But I also am hoping that Apolo and Karina are safe since I’d like to see them in the finals too.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NDYOWBIIPZU6PBRHGOPT2ZZJXQ sweetmm

Melissa’s votes must be low; I have a feeling she might just get the boot if other fans went all out.  Apollo might just not survive this double elimination.  Pretty worried Giles will be out if Kristie’s fans succeed in rocking the votes.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=195101108 Stefan Wind

Since Sabrina got wrongfully voted out all my votes go to Melissa now. Honestly, aside from the gymnastics both Shawn and Melissa are on the same level. Actually Melissa is a little above her, because her lines are much prettier. Oh plus I kind of loath Derek too. ;)

I watched that samba trio at least twice and Len made a good point. He is speaking as a judge, not as the audience who obviously loved it.  There wasn’t enough samba content and when you lose the basic essence of the dance, then you are going to get hit by at least one judge. It’s disingenuous for Derek and Mark to pretend that this was a surprise. They knew what they were doing! Derek’s strategy has been to play to the viewing audience.  There’s nothing wrong with that, but just don’t get annoyed or freaked out when the judges call you on it.  I do think they will get a lot of votes, but if everyone else is playing by the rules in the trio dances and managing to provide great moves and entertainment value while still keeping the essential flavor of the dance itself, then they should be marked down. However, I think Len was way too harsh with that 7 score!

I do not find Melissa boring at all! She lights up the dance floor. Tony’s choreography is excellent and demanding. He’s not dumbing it down at all.  I loved their quickstep to the old Andrews Sisters song, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy. Great energy, so much fun, wonderful dancing. Just loved it! I think that deserved a perfect score.  I don’t know about that trio paso dance. Maybe they are propping her up, I don’t care. I just love watching those two dance.

I do not think Emmitt deserved a perfect score for his trio dance. It was much better than his Viennese Waltz, but not deserving of a 30.

Gilles and Peta were great with their quickstep.  I like the salsa trio dance, but didn’t love it as much as their quickstep.

It will be a real shame if Kirstie makes it through over the others.  She has been fun with Maks, but honestly that trio dance was just kind of a mess.  I have a bad feeling that she will stay. I don’t know how it will all play out. It could be Appolo or really anyone. It just depends on the fans.  I am worried that Melissa may not make it through despite the high scores. It didn’t help Sabrina.

  • glennethph

I have no dog in this fight but wow, they really want Kirstie out.  Wouldn’t it be awesome if she survives, and two of the judges’ favorites get voted off.

  • http://twitter.com/BobbiNJ Bobbi

I liked Melissa’s dances but she has never had the fan base most of the others do.

  • http://twitter.com/KariannHart Kariann Hart

Shawn and Derek and Mark – Samba – An African themed Samba, with elements of African dance seems to come right out of “So You Think You Can Dance.”  There’s no problem with that, although there should have been more Samba moves.  It seems the time for dance has been shortened.

  • Heidijoy

    Still rooting for Gilles!!

  • Jimmy Mackey

Ah, you are so right; the viewers (me) don’t give a crap.  I watch the show
to be entertained and wouldn’t know a samba from a pavane (I actually do, but I’m trying to make a point here).  I thought it was daring and really an outright violation of the guidelines, but I loved it!  DWTS is one of my favorite shows and I used to wait for my wife to watch the show with me later. Now I just use the PrimeTime Anytime recording on my DISH DVR the next morning, while I’m getting ready for work.  I love how the four major networks are recorded automatically and the evening shows are there waiting for me after midnight.  I have to pick up my DISH coworker, so even with leaving earlier, I still get DWTS watched before I leave and then we can talk about it in the car.
