Country Singer/Songwriter Mallary Hope Takes Issue With Kellie Pickler’s Maxim Military Cover

Kellie Pickler is riding a wave of publicity for her sexy cover shoot for Maxim‘s Salute To The Military special issue. But country singer/songwriter Mallary Hope is not impressed.

Mallary Hope is best known in the Idol world for cowriting Lauren Alaina’s t30 country hit “Georgia Peaches” and another album track from Lauren’s album “The Locket”. This afternoon, she sparked some surprise by tweeting comments aimed at Kellie Pickler’s Maxim cover shoot:

How does taking your clothes off2 “salute our troops”make any sense at all? #yusethemilitarytomakeufeelbetterabtgettingurselfhalfassnaked ?

She then started responding to fans who picked up that she was referring to Kellie:

I know all of that. I don’t like when the military gets used in that way. It doesn’t make sense. My BIL is in Afghanistan &

I can think of a million ways to salute him other than taking off my clothes. Besides my sis would be a little pissed..

Kellie recently completed her 5th U.S.O. tour and has traveled to and performed in Kuwait, Afghanistan, Kosovo, and Iraq among other countries with the U.S.O. so she’s certainly found more meaningful ways to support US troops. Mallary did recognize that in this tweet to fans. In her most recent tweet Mallary said:

I’m real sorry if upset any1 w/my comment.I wasn’t hating on KP.i LOVE her.I just don’t like the connection w/our military.eek!Don’t hate me

Do you think she has a point about posing for Maxim in the name of saluting the military?
