Chris Richardson Signed By Cash Money Records, “In The Name Of Love” Music Video

American Idol alum, Chris Richardson, who was a finalist on Season 6 has been signed to Young Money/Cash Money records.

Chris recently appeared on Tyga’s “Far Away”, singing the hook.

In a video announcement, Cash Money co-founder, Birdman, talks about how he discovered Chris, “You might have saw him, he started off the way we recognized his talent, on American Idol. Somebody who knew him, knew us and Josh connected us,” he said.

“Being part of this team, I’m really family-oriented so just having the camaraderie of everyone in this label is just something so special, says Chris, “I can’t even explain it. But it definitely is inspiring. Every day I come into the studio and I go until I stop, really. I’m so inspired to all my label mates.”

Cash Money is home to rappers Lil Wayne, Drake, Jay Sean, T Pain, Nicki Minaj and more. It operates as a subsidiary of Universal Music Group.

Watch the announcement below. For some Idol graduates, it takes a few years to catch that big break. Congratulations Chris!

Congratulations to Chris.  He deserves a lot of praise for working so hard to get a contract.

Congrats to Chris. He sounds great on the Tyga single and he’s been working hard these last few years, it’s nice to see him finally catching a big break

This is awesome news.  He sounded fantastic on the Tyga song, I’m so glad for him.

  • pj

Congrats to Roundhead!  I wish him much success! :-)

  • hazuki

Hate that label and their artists. But I enjoyed Chris on Season 6. Think his new single could do really well on Pop. Good for him. Another star produced by Idol on its way?

  • No Thanks

Well played Mr. Richardson.  I know most people around here HATE rap.  But, man, he really landed a SWEET deal.  That label’s artists are EVERYWHERE.  You can’t turn on the radio without hearing Drake, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, T-Pain or Jay Sean.

  • Hazehel

I always have a soft spot for Chris “nasally is form of singing” Richardson.  His single “All Alone” is still one of my favorite songs from an Idol alum.

  • hazuki

They should have a remix for this song featuring Drake ( and I hate drake – but cant deny his popularity) it will help the song for exposure, then he should release a solo single.

Good for Chris.  Cash Money has a proven record of getting its artists on the radio.  Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj and several others have enjoyed a lot of success recently.  Chris has aligned himself with some heavy hitters.  Good luck to him.

  • Tinawina

I know right! I had to blink twice when I saw the label. That’s really great for him!

  • Kirsten

Cash Money? No way! Great label.

Congratulations Chris! He’s been working hard for years and its nice to see it finally pay off.

He was great on Tyga’s song.

  • Ronnie D

I always thought he was sexy, but his Justin Timerblake type voice always made me wince.

  • windmills

Congrats to Chris! I always liked him though I knew I was unlikely to ever want his music. It’ll be fun to see if he can succeed on the pop scene, it seems like he’s got the right sound. For a major label to still be interested after all these years, the execs probably see something in him. I seem to recall him being a pretty solid writer.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Congrats to Chris!  Nice to see former Idols achieve success, even if it takes a while after the show.

great for him!! The guy has worked hard since idol – i don’t like his audition at all. I think he really found his style and his voice is perfect fitting; he sounds so radio friendly and I like much the track

  • Pam

Wow.  This news was a long time coming.  He wasn’t my favorite of season 6, but he did seem like a very nice humble guy who worked his butt off to get heard.  I couldn’t be happier for him.  Congrats!

  • luly

    Congrats to Chris!

he was my favorite guy his season. glad to see that things are finally starting to fall into place for him.

And they say hard work doesn’t pay off! Really happy for Chris. He was definitely one of the standouts of Season 6. And the song is actually pretty dope. He definitely fits comfortably in the JT/Robin Thicke/Ryan Tedder “fly white boy” group.

So, he place 5th on Idol & it took five years to get signed to a major label. Is this the longest it’s taken for an Idol finalist to get a major-label recording contract?

Wow, good for him! It’s nice to see some of these alums working hard and finally getting a break.

That is awesome news. I want every Idol contestant to find their niche, and Chris seems to have done that. Kudos!

  • bigd13

Good for Chris, I knew this back when Tyga’s song featuring Chris came out. Hard work does pay off, see hard work does pay off. I honestly wish more ppl from Idol would become successful after the show.

  • bigd13

It took 5 years but you have to give him credit he’s doing a lot better than most of these Idol finalists who really can’t get any major record label to sign them. Some of the ones who are signed aren’t really signed to major labels so for Chris to get this says a lot about how hard he’s worked.

  • Sarah

Awww, CRich! He totally charmed me with his songs on that season’s tour, and man is he a cutie!

Congrats to him! I’m glad that his hard work is starting to pay off!

  • chessguy99

    Cash Money!?

I don’t think you can get much better for the type of music he’s been working on the last few years. That label is loaded with great artists who will lend their talent and expertise to his debut effort. Way to go Chris.

  • Kesia Monteith

Good for you Chris!!! Keep up the awesome work. So happy for him. I hope Cash Money gives him some great success. I wish the same for many idol alums to come.

  • ladymctech

I thought Chris had the best voice of the men his season.

  • dishwalla

That’s the great thing about Idol.  You don’t have to a Carrie Underwood, a Kelly Clarkson or Chris Daughtry to have a career.

  • Goboywonder

All Alone is one of my most played songs. Congratulations to Chirs!

I’ll have to say for me this is very unexpected.  Never felt we’d hear much from Chris but must admit that I like the song.  The videos shows that you don’t need too much production money to do a nice video.  Wish the sound were better quality, cinematography isn’t as good as Chris Isaak – Wicked Game of course and seems odd to see him unnecessarily lipsync both the lead and “tomorrow” background vocals.  Still, definitely a fine job.  Best of all, he no longer seems like a poor man’s Justin Timberlake.  His vibe, smile and falsetto is different.

Not ready to buy but I’m intrigued to hear more.

This is great news! Cash Money is an awesome label. I think he can be really successful doing featured spots on songs, but here’s hoping he can be someone like Robin Thicke and lure audiences in with a smooth and sexy R&B sound.

  • dy77

Good for Chris! I loved him on the Tyga single (which should have been a bigger hit, never got why it wasn’t) and he was my S6 favorite. He works really hard and deserves this.

I have no idea why Far Away didn’t hit on Pop, I thought it was a great Pop song.  Such a shame.

  • LeoR

this is actually quite a big deal. cash money is pretty legit. hes now in the company of artists like lil wayne, jay sean, and girl of the moment nicki minaj. good for him.
