More gossip and quotes from “sources” regarding Britney Spears’ X Factor exit from The New York Daily News:

Britney Spears shocked Simon Cowell and the producers of “X Factor” Wednesday night, when someone in her camp “leaked” that the pop-tart had quit the Fox talent show, sources told The Daily News

But the move may simply be a bid to head off her own firing.

“Obviously it saves her the humiliation of being fired,” an “X Factor” a show insider told TMZ.

“Everyone knows Simon (Cowell) was not happy with her bland performance on the show. It’s been said before: he wanted crazy Britney, she gave him Britney on sleeping pills.”

Cowell made the final decision to dump Spears from the show several weeks ago, a second production source said.

“Over the holidays Simon and the production team discussed the judge’s lineup for next year and Britney was not part of their plans,” the production source said.

It sounds reasonable to me that Britney’s camp leaked her exit plans in an attempt to control the story. Although, I think Simon Cowell would have allowed Britney to save face and quit first.  But there’s no way the X Factor production is going to shell out 15 million dollars for a celebrity that brings little more than gif-able faces to the judges’ table.

It’s despicable if true that Simon hired the singer hoping for “crazy Britney.”   Gosh, Simon, maybe you could have had someone on your production team hide her meds! Ugh.

I can’t imagine what more Simon can do to save X Factor, if I’m being honest.

Well, considering Britney is working on a new album, I don’t think she had any plans to return. Britney always tours after album release, that’s how she makes money. X Factor just takes too much time.

Me too. I honestly believe that ship has sailed in the US. It’s all downhill from here.

I think that Simon would want to save face too.  Given the ratings, Britney’s exit might look like she was jumping off a sinking ship.  The same goes for LA Reid.

If he is smart he will take Randy jackson’s spot on American idol. Id love to see him duke it out with Minaj.

I think that was part of it. It was mainly the hope that Britney’s fans would watch the show, but I can easily see Simon wanting “crazy Britney”. Good for her that she didn’t provide any moments like that.

After the way that Simon behaved during his final season on Idol, I really doubt that they would have him back as a judge, even if he begged them. lol

Simon has said repeatedly that he llves to try to play with the minds of the women on these shows. He uses it to make himself look funny and wise. That is why he clicked with the unstable Paula Abdul of Idol and not the saner Paula of X-Factor. He probably thought he would have an easy go with Britney. But it is hard to look witty when your “opponent” is not even capable of providing a set up for a good sound bite.

I highly doubt Idol is offering Jackson’s spot to Cowell next year – Jackson brought Mariah – what’s Cowell got to offer besides a falling in the ratings rep and a history from AI Season 9 that smells like sabotage?

If they were stupid clueless enough to offer, I can’t see Cowell’s ego permitting him to accept – and go back to working for Nigel on salary instead of being his own show producer – badly as he does it – or having access to musical acts to promote for Syco – or the ad money he currently collects.

Never gonna happen, IMO – It makes no sense. He’ll head back to GB first – and that would be fine with me -

    Smart girl.

I doubt the Idol folks -especially Nigel or Simon Fuller, in his waning influence – would ever want to work with him Cowell ever again. Whatever bonus he might have once brought to the show has gone away and his reputation sullied with this failure.

I hope Demi is smart enough to read the writing on the wall and follows L.A. Reid’s lead. (I think Britney would have stayed if she could have simply because it is an easy enough gig, especially for someone who has such a disability as hers. And it would have provided her with an excuse not to tour. Live performances have brought her lots of mixed reviewes in recent years).

Keep saving face, Simon. Get more Botox.

I think that Demi will try to stay on, but she will also try to negotiate a BIG raise to do so. lol

With luck. Incredible luck. No simple tweaking can save it now. If season 3 won’t produce water cooler moments and future iconic stars, the show is toast. No amount of Simon’s self importance can save the show if the ratings won’t support it.

On the other hand, reality  shows are still comparatively cheap to produce, even with the judges salaries. (and the contestants perform practically free.) This sure puts the speculations about shutting down the declining American Idol (still America’s most watched non-sport show!) in perspective.

I really liked LA Reid when I watched XF a little last season. I would definitely be more apt to watch Idol again if he replaced Randy.

She should.  And he should pay it.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I agree. In fact, now that LA and Britney are gone, Demi is in a good bargaining position.

http://static.whatsontv.co.uk/images/gallery/x-factor-dublin-judges-katy.jpgThe Simon expecting meltdown Britney is not exactly unexpected, but it’swithout a doubt just plain disgusting. So please X Factor just put these people together: A panel of three brit plus Katy Perry, everyone wins, Katy Perry gets a show where she’s the only star, there’s proven chemistry between the rest, Simon gets to be there, and I finally get Cheryl Cole.
