If he were to audition again he’d probably do pretty well if this is the route he went with. His voice has gotten a lot better.

  • Larc

Josiah is a very good piano player and has shown talent as a composer.  But the less said about his singing, the better.  ;)

  • curly_yenta

As a lifelong John Denver fan, this is horrifying. Poor guy would be turning over in his grave if he heard this.

  • potatorocks

It was entertaining.  It had my family howling with laughter.

  • Kariann Hart

John Denver has such a warm, nice soud.  This is a bit annoying.

  • durbesque

His tiny falsetto is priceless.  What little melisma he did was irksome.  Otherwise, not terrible.  Good piano.  “I was definitely entertained.”

  • fuzzywuzzy

Horrible rendition of CR. Some really badly off key high notes towards the end. I’m laughing because it sounds like he’s putting on a fake, bad accent too. lol

  • wordnerdarchie

Josiah’s accent was always bizarre – but it’s his real accent, lol.  He’s still doing his own thing – quirky.

  • MissMyEm

Makes you miss John Denver.   A lot.

  • Kesia Monteith

I only got through 1:04 minutes of that video. Sorry, I just never understood the appeal over this guy.

  • tucker davis

Oh, man that’s bad! It sounds like a parody. Vir-gin-ur….

  • fantoo1

I never understood how this guy was “robbed.” He is horrible!

  • milwlovesadam

Geebus! Is this a practical joke? I grew up on John Denver, he’s a classic. Supremely talented singer and song writer. Voice like buttah. This is a disgrace.

  • Tess

I lasted 26 seconds.  I do not understand why this kid is featured on this blog so much.  He is beyond terrible, and was a total mess on the show.  C’mn, its been 4 or 5 years.  Its time to let him fall into the abys.  He’s never going to get any better.

  • curly_yenta

The more I see this joke, the more offensive it is to me and how it is a blantant attempt to insult to the memory of a legendary singer and songwriter.

  • YankeeFan08

    LOL, MTE!  He’s awful.

  • geekygirl

Is this the kid who was living in a car?

  • Esther Macha

I didn,t watch season 7 so I have never heard of this person. If I had just run across this on u tube I would assume it was a joke and he was drunk. Is it suppose to be serious?

  • justmefornow

LOL. Reminds me of Colton, decent piano playing, extremely annoying, laughable voice.
    They should form a band.

  • sue

I love this song so much ever since I heard it in the anime “Whispers or the Heart”.  :)  Josiah’s singing is an acquire taste. lols

  • roarpen

Yikes ….hmmm….not sure what to say.

  • sue

Yes this is the kid that was living in his car and crying a lot. He does have a few good songs on yt and he did come out with an EP awhile back.

  • macfae

    Ouch!! that was painful

  • Pippygirl

I watched Season 7 and I have no memory of this person. Of course if he sang this badly on the show it’s possible my brain has blocked the memory.
It’s almost like he is one of the bad auditions AI likes to show so they can make fun of them.

  • wordnerdarchie

He was highlighted during the Hollywood rounds.  I think he’s in this clip.

  • steph6449

    That is quite horrendous, lol.

I don’t remember him at all if he was on AI. Maybe that is a good thing ;)

  • girlygirltoo

He got signed to a record deal after he got cut from Idol. He lost that deal and as far as I know is an indie musician now. I saw him perform at a gig in Orange Country a couple of years ago. He’s a really good piano player but he wasn’t able to connect to the audience at all at that show. Some of his original songs aren’t bad but he’s definitely an acquired taste.

  • Happyhexer

Where is Josiah Leming from originally?  Where did he grow up?  His accent sounds vaguely familiar.  At least, I assume that his accent is that is so noticeable in his singing?  Otherwise, I have no idea what that noise is supposed to represent.

I promise you, I can sing this song better than that.  Not that it would be that difficult to surpass this drivel!  (So no, I’m not a great singer, but neither is he.)

  • MellyPer1692

Is he the guy who sang “Grace Kelly” by Mika on AI?

  • wordnerdarchie

Yes, he was.  It’s in the clips I posted earlier.

  • girlygirltoo

For some reason, I want to say he’s from Tennessee. But I’m not positive.

  • Beaugard Stevens

I love Josiah, he’s so talented and a great singer and great songwriter, but this is not good.  I almost wish you could take it off because he is so much better than this and I hate that this might be the first thing people hear from him.  I would implore people to check out his other stuff, because he is actually really good, but yikes!  This sounds bad, not sure what he was thinking.

  • mjsbigblog

You know? He posts quite a few videos. More than I actually post. Now, I think I’ll post ALL of his videos, just for you Tess. ;)

I actually underestimated the freakout I figured this post would cause. lol.

  • hellomusicgirl

I liked Josiah on S7 — he had an endearing quality about him, maybe it was the sympathy factor, idk. He was different. He never had the biggest, most impressive voice but he did stand out during Hollywood Week as unique. I agree with the judges decision that he shouldn’t make it through but I can also think if a name or two in the top 24 that I would have been fine with him swapping, if that had been their decision instead.

I think what really killed his chances was his breakdown at the end of Hollywood Week. AI is no joke with the stress and the amount of work that’s required and clearly Josiah wasn’t ready for it at that time. I hoped the best for him after the show; he seemed so heartbroken when he didn’t make it through. This particular song is probably not the best direction but I still wish him well. Does anyone know if he does any songwriting for others? That might be a direction for him to go.

  • CSFan

He had a small tour about a year ago with Tyler Hilton so he’s still plugging away. I do think he’s better served with his original tunes so I’m a bit surprised he tried a John Denver song. I do get the impression he’s become more mature and humble in the years since AI.

  • hillstreetblooz

Cosign! The abyss is tired of his ass too, lol. Dude was a worster dahhhling back in the day, but after this clip I think he’s on his own.

  • LA944

Maybe he should have done James Taylor’s Country Road–it might have come out better–LOL  It’s a much better song.

Anyway–I always thought John Denver lifted some of his Country Roads from JT’s.
