And Amelia’s back! After a slew of predictable performances the X Factor reject puts the rest to shame with her showstopping return
It was hardly a surprise, but tonight X Factor reject Amelia Lily returned to the show following a landslide win on the public vote.

The 17-year-old took to the stage for a heartfelt rendition of Queen’s The Show Must Go On.

She had confessed prior to the announcement: ‘When Kelly sent me home after the first life show, it was like having my heart ripped out’

Where did the X Factor go? ITV blushes as most important show of the series so far is delayed due to ‘technical difficulties’
It’s been a season beleaguered with blunder after embarrassing blunder.

And tonight, the X Factor show ITV hoped would play a crucial role in winning back disillusioned fans has already gone horribly wrong.

As viewers tuned in to discover which of the original four rejects would be making their return, ‘technical difficulties’ meant they were faced instead with reruns of the auditions stage.

The new Take That? Their tour sold out in hours and their first single shifted 100,000 in a weekend… One Direction on a year that changed their lives
Long before I see One Direction I can hear them, their boisterous shouts echoing round the alleyways near the photographic studio where they’re to pose for our shoot. Rounding the corner, I find them engaged in a chaotic melee of playfighting and mickey-taking.

A year since Simon Cowell anointed them as a group during last year’s X Factor, mentoring them through to the competition final, it seems Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson are genuinely getting along famously.

Then again, they’ve got every reason to be in good spirits: One Direction may have come in third on the big night last December, but not for the first time a runner-up medal has proved no bar to commercial success.

Indeed, while last year’s winner Matt Cardle has had mixed fortunes – his winning cover song from the show went to number one, but his subsequent single registered at number six in the charts last month – One Direction are on a roll.

‘I was never a role model from the start’: Frankie Cocozza defends actions, saying public knew what to expect from him
Frankie Cocozza says the public should have known what to expect from him from his very first audition.

The X Factor reject claims he didn’t even think about becoming a role model, then all of a sudden he was thrust into the limelight.

However, he apologised for his actions after realising ‘it’s going to affect my family’ and even said he has to ‘stop being a little s**t’.

Frankie Cocozza begged us for a threesome
Becca Hills: X Factor bad boy ripped my tights… and broke the bed

X FACTOR bad boy Frankie Cocozza begged two blondes to join him for an orgy, they revealed last night.

He told students Becca Hills and Katherine Holland: “Come on, girls, let’s have a threesome.”

Blonde Becca, who Frankie bedded in a cocaine-fuelled frenzy, told how he ripped her tights — then broke the bed after wild sex.

Was Frankie’s cocaine and sex confession just a stunt to boost X Factor’s flagging ratings? Not to mention his own career
And despite their avowals of disapproval, the producers, too, must be rubbing their hands at the headlines the whole episode has garnered. A fortnight ago, the show was trounced by Strictly Come Dancing in the ratings and critics were predicting its continuing decline.

Cue young Frankie — singled out from day one as the programme’s hellraiser — being told to live up to his image and raise some hell.

Well, he delivered. Frankie has been publicity gold, his picture splashed across the front page of the tabloids all week. His job done, he could then be discarded with the now-traditional ‘best wishes for his solo career’.

Mark Borkowski, a veteran PR man, is unequivocal in his views about the way Frankie has been handled. He says: ‘You need cannon fodder like Frankie Cocozza, and that is exactly what he was. The main weapons the X-Factor publicists have are celebrity and controversy, and he gave them both. But at what cost?’

Who is the real villain of this X Factor pantomime?
Two years ago, when he was reminiscing about the break-up of Take That in 1996, Gary Barlow said his only regret was that he didn’t spot the fact that his fellow band member Robbie Williams was descending into drug and alcohol abuse.

‘I missed all the signs,’ he said then. ‘I think we all did.’

Now, all these years later, he says the same about The X Factor’s Frankie Cocozza, who was sacked from the show for cocaine use. ‘I do feel a level of responsibility towards Frankie,’ says Barlow, one of The X Factor’s four judges. ‘We all played our part in what’s happened with him.’

Struggling X Factor rocked by new crisis as judge Louis Walsh threatens to quit
A show source said: “Most contestants have been crying, others want to leave, it is absolute chaos backstage, the worst it’s ever been.”

Liverpool lad Craig packed his bags and was poised to leave. He declared: “I can’t hack it anymore.”

He said goodbye to all his housemates on Thursday but yesterday staff, led by mentor Gary Barlow, convinced the 23-year-old to stay.

A source said: “Craig quit on Thursday. He said he was going home, he was really determined. He didn’t cry, he just wanted out.

“He didn’t want to be in the show any more. He was too drained and he was homesick.”

Janet, who celebrates her 17th birthday this weekend, also felt the pressure yesterday.

At one point, she told the stylists to “leave her alone”. The Irish youngster is sick of them trying to change her look and walked out of the dressing rooms to quit, only to be talked into returning.

A show source said: “Janet isn’t happy about the songs she is being given, the clothes she has to wear and feels some people want to turn her into something she is not.

“She is adamant that she will not do what they say and is fighting her corner. But if they push her again about songs and clothes, she will not put up with it much longer.”

Stressed Janet Devlin in bed rest
X FACTOR singer Janet Devlin was so stressed by judges’ moans last week she couldn’t get out of bed for two days.

The Irish wannabe said she felt terrible after she was told to pay more attention to her mentor Kelly Rowland.

Janet, 16 — who arrived for rehearsals yesterday in bright orange eyeshadow — said: “I had a weird headache. I couldn’t move without it hurting.

“I felt like I was going to throw up so I thought it was better to lie in bed.

“It was stress-related. My confidence has been knocked — there’s no point lying about it.”

For whatever reason Alexandra Burke defied the cold temperatures and wore little more than fishnets and hot pants to perform outside last night.

The singer was at Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet to switch on the Christmas lights and didn’t disappoint the ten thousand people who braved the winter weather.
