Alt-rockers Blink-182 are headed to the top of chart with “California”. This will be their second number one album – they last hit the top of the chart in 2001. They will dethrone Drake who has been hogging the number one spot for 9 weeks with “Views”. Maxwell (R&B) will have the second best selling album of the week. I’m no expert, but maybe he should have given his new album a different name than his previous album. “BLACKsummer’snight” debuted at the top of the chart back in 2009, he took a 7 year break (vocal issues) and now he’s releasing “blackSUMMERS’night”? I guess the true fans would remember his plans for a trilogy back in 2012 and notice the difference. I look forward to reporting on “blacksummers’NIGHT” before 2023.
Drake and Beyonce who have been sitting at or near the top of the chart for the last few months are selling 3rd and 4th. Blake Shelton rises to 5th and also has his greatest hits at 49th. Adele and Chris Stapleton (both are no strangers to the top 10) are 6th and 7th followed by “Hamilton”. Twenty One Pilots stay airborne with “BlurryFace” at 9th and Meghan Trainor closes out the top 10
There are two reality singing competitors on the HDD chart this week. Carrie Underwood’s “Storyteller” is at 22nd (she also appears on Keith Urban’s album at 24th with a duet). while Melanie Martinez’s “Cry Baby” is showing remarkable longevity at 46th. She has done a marvellous job of building a fan base. Now 57 features tracks from Zayn and Kelly Clarkson (20th on the chart).
Mike Posner might want to check his pockets. After “[He] Took a Pill in Ibiza” they found €2 million hidden throughout a club there. The police used picks and “other tools” to find all that stuff (now the club can be featured in one of those home reno shows!). What is going on on that island?
