Kelly Clarkson has been teasing a big announcement all week via Facebook Live. And heck yeah, the American Idol winner has some VERY BIG NEWS. After more than a decade with RCA, she’s signing with Atlantic records!
What this means of course, is that Kelly is NO LONGER tied to 19 Records/Core Media, the company that owns American Idol. The deal American Idol contestants signed was a joint venture between Idol and a major label. In Kelly’s case, it was RCA. In the video she recalls how she and 19/RCA had their ups and downs, but overall, it was a great partnership.
Time to move on to a new era. And, as Atlanta is legendary for it’s R&B artists, a more soulful era as well. Congratulations Kelly!
Not only is Atlantic excited about going in a more soulful direction with Kelly, she says, but they appreciate her versatility, “All the colors in my voice,” says Kelly. “I love the country side of me, and I love the Broadway side of me. I love the pop side of me and the soulful side…they are down to make whatever record I’m into. Which is real rare.” Not said, but one can assume: RCA was not.
More announcements! KellyClarksonLive.com is here. She’s giving away 4 cover songs, including “Fix You,” “I’d Rather Go Blind,” “Creep,” and “Ready for Love,” for free, including a video of “Tightrope.” The last Friday of every month, the singer will give away FREE STUFF. It’s a big thank you to loyal fans.
Today’s last performance is “Stand By Me” by the great Ben E. King.
