Idol Sales News – Week Ending 02/14/10

Will “Pants on the Ground” take over the Idol download leader board this week or it just fall short like many a rotation on the ice last night? Is Idol creating medal winning performances for any songs featured on the show or has the show lost it’s mojo and crashed into the first gate? Will the Season 8 crew gotten close to another certification or will they have to wait another 4 years? The answers to these and other epic questions may appear after the jump.

  1. Wow, it’s great Adam got another increase this week. I can’t believe he sold 14,000 this week. Certainly glad to see Daughtry’s album had a nice gain.

  2. Some airplay stats (from bibliotheque at Pulse):

    KELLY CLARKSON – Already Gone = 48.343 (+ 0.001)
    KRIS ALLEN – Live Like We’re Dying = 44.966 (+ 0.577)
    CARRIE UNDERWOOD – Temporary Home = 37.764 (+ 0.196)
    ADAM LAMBERT – Whataya Want From Me = 32.131 (+ 0.323)
    DAUGHTRY – Life After You = 28.433 (+ 0.325))

Number in brackets is the increase in audience impressions since yesterday.

  3. I am glad Adam is doing well too. I think WWFM is helping him a lot( even I like that song the more I hear it and it is not one of my faves off his album)and thr AOL ssessions and all his recent performances stuff and the youtubes from them probably helped too. I think he will have even better numbers this week after this NYC promo stuff.

Glad Chris D is soon to be platinum. I haven’t bought this album because I haven’t liked it as much as the first one but I still want him to do well. He was my guy in s5!

  4. Go Adam! Wow- I was worried when he wasn’t in the top 50 anymore- and thought he might have had a really bad week- but to my delight it turns out he sold even more than last week! Woopeeeeee!!!

And yay for Kris for an 11% increase!

  5. Great week in sales for Adam! I’m very happy for Chris D. as well.

Me too! I’m so happy :)

  7. Valentine’s Day gave a nice boost to album sales across the board.
And the numbers for the top two albums this week are really terrific:

    ) Sade – Soldier Of Love – 501,665
    2) Lady Antebellum – Need You Now – 207,507 (After 3 weeks – 897,303

Maybe the slide in album sales is starting to level off.

  8. itunes chart:

    LLWD- #18
    WWFM- #24

So happy WWFM finally started going up again, after about two weeks of going between #27-#31… hope it goes even higher in the next weeks…

  9. Let’s not forget:

    #15 Pants on the Ground

and that’s with no radio play at all (I assume). All kidding aside, I can’t believe this song is showing this much longevity on iTunes. :)

From your lips to god’s ears. LOL

  12. Nice increases for most of them. Glad to see Daughtry getting close to platinium.
yay for the 11% increase for Kris. I’m looking forward to see what will be the effect on the sales when the 2nd single is released

thanks jpfan for mentioning Sade’s number.. very deserved

  13. A small milestone but congratulations Carrie since Play On went past 1.3 million copies sold. It actually held on pretty well after the Grammys and without the itunes deal. LOL @ Some Hearts still increasing.

Good sales all around. Daughtry’s sophomore album should be past a million sold within 6 weeks or so.

Sade’s numbers are amazing, so are Lady Antebellum’s. Another country act did way better than expected too and that’s Josh Turner. HDD said he’d sell 60-65k but he sold 85k. He’s my favorite guy in country music.

  14. Z100 played WWFM 16 times yesterday – 11 times for the standard version and 5 times for the acoustic version! Unfortunately, the acoustic version doesn’t show as a spin in mediabase so his AI has been affected but I’m still glad Z100 are playing it. Hopefully it will attract new fans/buyers!

  15. Go Adam! Wow- I was worried when he wasn’t in the top 50 anymore- and thought he might have had a really bad week- but to my delight it turns out he sold even more than last week! Woopeeeeee!!!

mr, I felt exactly like how you did…when I couldn’t find Adam on the HDD’s Top50 list, my heart sank to the deepest depth and my thoughts just went into overdrive, oh noooooo! Such a pleasant surprise to see the increase in sale today instead! Yesss!!! :)

  16. Good for Adam and Kris!

But are album sales always this low in Jan/Feb? Or is this how much adam and kris are going to sell from now on, every week? Noticed after the New Year, they haven’t sold thaaat much. I guess as everybody says 1.4K is a good sale for Adam (at this point).

But my question is how is he ever going to go Platinum like this? How long does a typical debut idol take to go platinum? Thoughts please.

  17. Sales before Xmas are huge compared to sales post holidays. And actually sales are pretty decent this January/Februrary. In the past they’ve been much, much worse.

Most Idols pile up the sales before Xmas and go platinum around this time in the album’s life span, Jordin was an exception and went platinum off singles. That obviously takes much longer. Adam and Kris (real long shot) are following the Jordin model.

  18. And actually sales are pretty decent this January/Februrary. In the past they’ve been much, much worse.

Yeah no kidding! I wonder if moving the Grammies back a month contributed. It seems like we are getting March like numbers already. Perhaps it is a combination of the Grammies plus several high profile releases after the holidays.

Whatever it was, they need to keep it up next year. :)

  19. No guarantee all debuts will go platinum either, it all depends if they pick up non-Idol fans, or how many really.

  20. I think when people see the huge numbers before Xmas, they can’t believe how lousy the January numbers will be. But it’s the same story every year. Once January hits, it’s going to take a LONG time for most albums to go platinum (if that even happens).

Adam and Kris showing up on Idol will also give their sales a big, fat boost.

  21. I dont know why its such a shock Adam (or Kris) got a boost when the sales across the entire chart are up due to Valentines day. I’m surprised he did drop out of the Top 50 so soon to be honest. I agree though that sales for this time of the year are actually pretty good overall. Sade’s numbers are amazing and well deserved.

  22. But are album sales always this low in Jan/Feb? Or is this how much adam and kris are going to sell from now on, every week?

If they’re really really really really lucky they’ll continue to sell this many every week! And it would be surprising if they *were* that lucky, I’d say.

They will get temporary boosts of some size if they appear on Idol, and Kris will appear, though I kind of doubt that Adam will, particularly since he’s going to be abroad during a good chunk of the season, looks like.

If they tour as the opening act of somebody big, that may shore up sales a little (or not: See Sparks, Jordin).

And if their radio play continues to build, that ought to keep sales from sliding off completely, although it certainly won’t keep them at this week’s level, I don’t believe. But honestly I don’t see either song really moving up the charts a whole lot farther. Adam doesn’t seem to be able to reach 200 stations with WWFM, and if he can’t that’s really a limitation on sales, I expect. You need some new ears to be hearing the song, and if you don’t get into new markets, that’s not going to happen.

They’ll just be lucky if they slide only a bit farther and hold there for several months, basically, as far as I can see.

  23. When I saw that the #50 album on HDD’s chat was projected at 16K I thought Adam might do fine despite falling off the list. Both he and Kris seem to have stabilized in terms of sales, which should be a good sign. It’s still going to be a LONG time before Adam goes platinum — if he ever does. And Kris will still be lucky to see his album go gold. That’s months away from happening (if ever). But increased sales are still increased sales, so it’s all good. Any way to find out what Danny’s pre-order sales look like?

Is the dude from the pulse board still traveling? This is the second straight week the singles sales numbers haven’t been posted earlier than the album ones.

  24. Lucy

Adam isn’t going to be gone that long on this promotional tour –maybe a couple of weeks. He should be back in plenty of time to appear on Idol, probably in April…

  25. Watching Kris’ album sales is like watching paint dry. Ugh. I need some singles news to cheer me up! Good numbers for Adam, Chris, and Carrie, though.

And Lucy, I think Idol would be crazy not to have Adam appear this year. They’ll figure out a way to work around his schedule I’m sure.

  26. Really good update for Kris on the mediabase Pop chart today

  27. The low sales for Kris Allen show a real problem with IDOL. First the voting has to change from unlimited as this gives a truly false popularity reading. Second, Idol fans clearly have tight pockets when it comes to purchasing music. Support your Idol favorites and all artists by purchasing their music!

    Let’s not forget:

    #15 Pants on the Ground

and that’s with no radio play at all (I assume). All kidding aside, I can’t believe this song is showing this much longevity on iTunes. :)

Never underestimate the attraction of spending your money stupidly.

Speaking as someone who has not bought the song, I hardly see how it’s spending money stupidly. At least any more stupid than any other music purchase. People spend money for emotional reasons. And music purchases are especially emotionally driven as the purpose of music is to evoke emotion. Obviously this song has good memories and makes people happy. It seems to me that that is a very good reason to buy it.

  29. And Lucy, I think Idol would be crazy not to have Adam appear this year. They’ll figure out a way to work around his schedule I’m sure.

I would think that they would. But, man, I sure hear about a *lot* of people who seem to think that they’ll be appearing, and I wonder where they’re going to put them all.

After all, they most certainly aren’t going to give up the results-night appearances of the non-Idol stars because they hope that that’ll build ratings. I would hope that they squeeze Adam in, but it really wouldn’t surprise me a bit if they didn’t.

  30. Well, that was intended to be a joke. Obviously not very funny!

  31. I would be shocked if Adam did not appear on Idol this season, especially since he is a 19 client and they will want the sales boost and probably to use the appearance to launch the next single….i figure he will be on in late april/early may …the only thing that concerns me is the so many other people have already talked about their idol appearance like its a certainty and the date has already been booked (scott, danny, kris, even ayla brown for heavens sake –altho i can’t imagine that happening)while adam gave the impression that he had not even had conversations about it and that if it happened it would be scheduled at the last minute. i just can’t believe that tptb would not want him back on the show this year

  32. Lucy

Adam is arguably the most popular of the S8 contestants, the runner-up almost always is on the show the following season, and he’s likely to draw good ratings. As long as they can work around his schedule, he’s definitely going to be back. And as I said, this promotional tour isn’t that long. It’s one week in the U.K., and likely another week-two weeks in the rest of the countries. With his trips to Haiti and Rwanda, Kris could easily be out of the country for just as long a time as Adam, yet he’s gonna be back on Idol. So why wouldn’t Adam be?

  33. thanks girlygirl for the mediabase numbers. Woohoo for Kris’s airplay!! good for Adam too!

The low sales for Kris Allen show a real problem with IDOL. First the voting has to change from unlimited as this gives a truly false popularity reading.

Kris’s single will very soon reach platinium, so I don’t think he isn’t popular

  34. girlygirl, I think Adam is going to Australia and Japan for promotional tour as well but that is in mars (I think 15th of mars for Japan). As far as we know he will be gone only one week in april so it should work out then.

  35. the only thing that concerns me is the so many other people have already talked about their idol appearance like its a certainty and the date has already been booked (scott, danny, kris, even ayla brown for heavens sake –altho i can’t imagine that happening)while adam gave the impression that he had not even had conversations about it and that if it happened it would be scheduled at the last minute.

    Bingo.

And, for me, the further question is — Will Adam be in a position this whole spring to respond to one of those possible spur-of-the-moment invitations? Since the spring is still a huge part of his rollout, both here and abroad, I would doubt that his handlers are going to want to hold him back from any other potential contracts on a just-in-case basis.

I can’t remember whether it was last spring or the spring before that Elliott seemed to drop some other possibilities waiting for one of those spur-of-the-moment invites that I guess was vaguely spoken of but not set in stone, and it never came. And that seemed like kind of an error to me. Now, I know he’s not 19; however, he does have some Sony connections and Idol really does like him. (I suspect the same thing might happen to him this year again, actually. EY and Kara are on their way to Angola, right now, I think, to tape something for Idol Gives Back. And I know that many Elliott *fans,* at least, expect that his taped IGB charity appearance will translate into at least a small singing slot for him as well. (don’t know what Elliott himself expects …) But I really doubt that it will. They have too many people to cram in — and you know that lots of non-Idol singers are also going to be angling for spots on a show with such high ratings.)

Thus — just wouldn’t surprise me if Adam’s handlers decide they don’t want him hanging loose for an invite and just schedule him up as much as they can — and thus have him booked somewhere when/if that spur-of-the-moment invitation comes. …. I’d like to see him on the show, and it would certainly give his U.S. sales a shot in the arm, but I really really don’t believe it’s any kind of certainty, on either side of the arrangement.

  36. Didn’t Archie end up dropping some dates with McFly in UK when AI booked his appearance at the last minute or changed the date of it IIRC?
Archie fans can chime in here.

  37. Re: appearing on AI. It should be noted that whoever gets the boot song normally doesnt appear until Top 2 night. I wouldnt be shocked at all if Kris or Adam got it this year so there’s that.

Also FYI since Jordin is often mentioned in terms of sales I looked at her stats from this week in 2007, and she was at #49 on the BB200 and sold 19,898. She really held very steady.

  38. I’m sure no matter where Adam is, he’ll be able to schedule an appearance on TV’s #1 show. They’ll probably schedule him for one of the April results shows. He’s managed by 19 and it’s completely in their self interest to have him back. Ditto for the boot song. Highly likely that Kris or Adam (or Allison) will get it as a 19 artist has had it for the past 3 seasons.

Archie wasn’t managed by 19 so they kind of jerked him around. I’m sure Adam will get better treatment.

I’m a little stunned that Scott M. will be back. That’s a shocker.

  39. I don’t think for one second, they won’t invite Adam back this season.
I seriously doubt it’s going to be a last minute invite. They are going to promote it for the couple of weeks, the same way they will for Kris. If there is anything American Idol is good at, it’s pimping it’s stars. They will use his losing after being the front-runner status, the controversial AMA performance, good record sells, plus his celebrity status to promote his return to the Idol stage. Yes, without a doubt Adam Lambert will return. As for Kris, his coming from behind to win Idol, his platinum single and probably humanitarian efforts in Haiti, to promote his return.

  40. saga:
    02/17/2010 at 10:50 am

Mars looks pretty booked for Adam but April should work.

HeeHee! I knew Adam was Planet Fierce, but now he’s going to outer space, too? j/k

Kirsten, I like how you’re getting into the Olympic spirit in your write up today–thanks!

  41. I really hope that Adam is on AI9 this year performing, but it seems odd that he said that he hasn’t been talked to about it yet. Scott,Danny and Kris all have something set up. Hopefully AI wasn’t scared off by his AMA performance and are concerned about possible complaints. I don’t think Adam is treated like royalty by AI like some people might believe.

  42. Concerning Kris’ album. As I live overseas, I asked a friend who was coming to visit to run by Wal-Mart and get another of his CDs with the bonus track because I wanted to give it as a gift. When she got here, she said she couldn’t find one – the Wal-Mart she went to in Houston didn’t have any. She didn’t know if they had just sold out or what. I have seen others on this site talk about not seeing it in stores, even during Christmas. Even though it may be available on the internet, not everyone is going to go to that trouble, though they might pick it up if they saw it in the store. Wal-Mart, especially, being Arkansas-based and offering the bonus track needs to be sure their stores are stocked. Why not a special idol display with all their albums? Can someone stateside check on this? If I were there I would check the stores every time I went shopping and let the manager know if more needed to be ordered. I’m wondering how much the low sales (though sales are up this week, yea) are because the albums just aren’t out there.

  43. I really believe Adam will appear on the show too, at some point. After all, last year, even with a ton of non-AI folks on (Miley, Gaga, Kanye, No Doubt, etc.) there were a TON of AI folks they fit in too – Michael Johns, Carly, Ruben, Brooke, David Cook (2x), Archie, Jordin, Carrie, Daughtry, Kelly – that’s A LOT!

So, I can definitely see Kris, Danny, and Adam as definites for this year. Allison as a very very strong “it better happen!” Scott, well, ok, I guess give him a spot, but I am completely ambivalent about that, and don’t think he necessarily DESERVES it over others. Matt hopefully will get one too. Maybe even Michael.

Then some old AI alums too – more than enough spots imo.

And as for Adam’s PR priorities – the overseas stuff is obviously important, but appearing on AI gives quite a significant boost to a single and album, even if it is only temporary. Especially the chance to plug a new single.

  44. Hopefully AI wasn’t scared off by his AMA performance and are concerned about possible complaints.

Seriously doubt it. Soon after the AMAs he was asked to appear on the finale of SYTYCD – also owned by 19.

  45. The low sales for Kris Allen show a real problem with IDOL. First the voting has to change from unlimited as this gives a truly false popularity reading. Second, Idol fans clearly have tight pockets when it comes to purchasing music. Support your Idol favorites and all artists by purchasing their music!

Kris’ sales don’t have anything to do with the voting on AI. Anyone with a brain knew that Taylor Hick’s wasn’t going to get his music played on the radio, and that Daughtry would, but one of them was a better reality show contestant than the other, and so he should have won.

The show is over, the point is to get the most votes, and that’s what Kris did. Who knows what will happen with his career, but the point of the music industry is not to be the best reality show contestant, and in line with that, Kris’ career isn’t going to be decided over the span of just three months, nor is it going to be based on him winning AI.

Kris’ success, just like Kelly, Carrie, Daughtry’s, etc. is going to be based on appealing to those outside of the idol bubble.

Since the sales started out low, retailers aren’t going to restock the album, and Sony isn’t going to send out more copies. Something has to happen in order for retailers and Sony to see that there is a demand, for example a second single taking off, before they will take the risk to ship more albums. Some retailers aren’t even going to put out more copies, if they have more in stock, if they don’t think there is a demand for it.

  47. When you are being “managed” by Simon Fuller and he is the “head honcho” for American Idol it would be ludicrous to imagine that he wouldn’t have one of his proteges on the program. I am sure Kris, Adam, Allison, David Cook, Daughtry and Carrie Underwood will all be on the show this year. There are like 16 weeks of Idol shows…plenty of time to fit everyone in. Besides, we’ve seen multiple artists on a given night. I would think that Adam will probably be scheduled after his next single is being promoted probably early May. And I bet that it will be “advertised” weeks in advance.

  48. babybelle32

Maybe so, but I’m sure Wal-Mart or whoever would order a copy for any customer who requested it. Stores do that all the time when they don’t have things in-stock.

  49. I believe Adam will go platinum (positive thinking and all that). If Jordin held steady then I think Adam and Kris are holding steady also.

I’m not worried if or when Adam will be on Idol this year. I can’t believe they would have Scott on before Adam. Makes no sense.

  50. I haven’t seen Kris, Allison or Adam’s album in my local Walmart for well over a month if not longer.

ETA, if Simon Fuller bothered to attend Adam’s birthday party, I have a hard time believing he won’t be on Idol sometime this year. Of course this is the one time Adam chooses to keep details to himself. I guess he really doesn’t know when yet.

  51. Track sales from idol chatter:

Kris Allen, Live Like We’re Dying (66,000, +15 percent, 871,000)
General Larry Platt, Pants on the Ground (63,000, +2,666 percent, 65,000)
Adam Lambert, Whataya Want From Me (52,000, +6 percent, 425,000)
Daughtry, Life After You (34,000, +14 percent, 404,000)
Carrie Underwood, Cowboy Casanova (30,000, -9 percent, 1.147 million)
Carrie Underwood, Temporary Home (27,000, +8 percent, 197,000)
    Katharine McPhee, Terrified (20,000, +9,654 percent, 22,000)
Kelly Clarkson, Already Gone (18,000, -14 percent, 1.225 million)

  52. SINGLES SALES NUMBERS ARE IN. Kris held off Pants on the Ground to top the Idol download list again. He sold 66K!!! Way to go, Kris!!! Adam, Daughtry and Carrie also saw increases in sales, and Kat’s “Terrified” got a ginormous boost from Didi’s covering it on Hollywood week.

Oh and note that while Brian talks about the upcoming milestones for LLWD and WWFM, he never mentions the terms platinum or gold…

    http://content.usatoday.com/communities/idolchatter/post/2010/02/track-sales-we-are-the-world-and-the-power-of-didi-benami/1

  53. I haven’t seen Kris, Allison or Adam’s album in my local Walmart for well over a month if not longer.

I went to one of the stores in my area yesterday to buy a copy of Kris’, and I didn’t see his, Adam or Allison’s. It’s all about demand, maybe I should have said something to one of the sales people, I think at this point it would just be easier to order it from online, and have it shipped to me.

  54. Congrats to Kris for holding off the powerhouse of POTG. Idol Chatter is wondering why this song went from a few thousand downloads to 63K this week. Me too. What’s going on? Anyone know.

  55. Yeah for Kris and Adam. That’s so wonderful Adam should be going gold in a few weeks and Kris Platinum in a few weeks so Cool. I just love how good LLWD is doing and WWFM to.

  56. Adam is tracking nearly identical to Jordin, Kris not so much. Adam’s total sales is even right on pars with Jordin so he might go platinum around the same time she did or possibly sooner if his airplay keeps up. Kris is going to have to start doing better than ‘steady’ to reach gold IMO.

  57. re: potg, didn’t one of the ai episodes last week do a feature on it? and wasnt there something about it vis a vis the superbowl….all of that could have contributed to the spike up last week…and then once people see it higher up on the itunes chart and know they can buy it, they laugh and say hey for a buck i’ll download that little ditty….there have always been novelty songs that catch the public interest for a time (disco duck anyone? eat it?)

  58. I’m not worried if or when Adam will be on Idol this year. I can’t believe they would have Scott on before Adam.

LOL – my thoughts exactly. Or Ayla Brown for that matter. Talk about a WTF moment that would be.

  59. Where is Allison?…I supposed America doesn’t have good taste in music, Allison has some really good songs and the album in general is amazing.

  60. Yeah for Kris and Adam. That’s so wonderful Adam should be going gold in a few weeks and Kris Platinum in a few weeks so Cool. I just love how good LLWD is doing and WWFM to.

Just saw the numbers – that is incredibly cool! I kept thinking WWFM was SOOOO far from gold still, but now I look at how close it is, and I’m all YEAA!!!

  61. Where is Allison?…I supposed America doesn’t have good taste in music, Allison has some really good songs and the album in general is amazing.

After watching the Kradison concert recently, I’m so sad about her not selling better :-( She is INSANELY talented, especially for her age, and has such a great voice, stage presence – truly one of the best, most confident performers ever to be on AI. I really hope, even if it takes some time and patience, that everything works out for her. She deserves it so much!

  62. Congrats to Kris for topping the singles idol sales once again this week!! yay yay yay yay :)

i’m very happy for Kat McPhee. What a big boost! It deserves a little thank you to miss Didi

  63. Adam is doing great! Not only is his single selling, but his album is selling too!

To all the posters who say that Walmart, etc. doesn’t have the CDs by the various Idols, are you asking for it to be restocked? If there’s demand for the CDs, then one would think the shelves would be restocked.

  64. itunes chart:

    LLWD- #18
    WWFM- #24

So happy WWFM finally started going up again, after about two weeks of going between #27-#31… hope it goes even higher in the next weeks…

I think the Grammys were pushing both songs down a bit (especially WWFM – which has less radio play to counteract that effect). I’m guessing the Grammy effect is waning now, though.

  65. I didn’t buy Kat’s Terrified, but there was a free download of Kara’s version on her website which I added to my iTunes. I prefer her voice to Kat’s. Kara is really talented, IMO.

  66. Just saw on my Twitter feed that FYE (the single) debuted at #55 on Japan’s Hot 100. Will we ever get single sale for this song again or no?

I’d never heard Terrified before this week.

  67. Great singles update!!!

I bet next week we’ll see an increase in “Man in the Mirror” and “I’m Yours” seeing as so many contestants sang them on Idol last night. “Ain’t No Sunshine” had a 277% increase/17K after some sang it last week (or maybe the boost’s from Kris’ twitpic on Saturday?? Ha!). Oh, the power of AI!!!

  68. After watching the Kradison concert recently, I’m so sad about her not selling better She is INSANELY talented, especially for her age, and has such a great voice, stage presence – truly one of the best, most confident performers ever to be on AI. I really hope, even if it takes some time and patience, that everything works out for her. She deserves it so much!

I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, but imo allison will have a lot of success but it will happen in a few years when she is in her early 20s….

  69. I really feel bad for Allison. She’s insanely talented and her album has several amazing songs on it. I think her being so young is a blessing (Jive will probably be willing to give her more time to try and find her audience) and a curse (she doesn’t fit the “normal” teen artist type).

So I actually calculated this (don’t ask me why – LOL): At 5K per week (which is basically what he’s been selling the last several weeks), Kris’s album would go gold sometime in January 2011 (48 more weeks). Meanwhile, at 13K per week, Adam’s album would go platinum in late November/early December 2010 (37 more weeks). All right!!!!

  70. Seeing the #s for LLWD just makes me feel so happy :)! Yay Kris! And congrats to Adam on WWFM as well. What would really crack me up: LLWD certified platinum and WWFM certified gold the same week. Unless WWFM gets it next week – I could see this possibly happening in 2 weeks! (But I’m not jinxing these guys – just really want them to do well.)

Just wish Allison was doing nearly as well as them.

And does anyone know how Danny is doing on presales for his album and sales of his single?

  71. I think Idol should change the minimum age to 18. I do believe Allison needs a few more years and she’ll be big.

I really love Allison’s Scars. It’s well beyond her years, what a beautiful song.

  72. So with LLWD being #16 on this week’s official Mediabase Pop chart and seeing a solid increase in sales, what are the chances it finally cracks the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week?

  73. I hope that Allison is on AI9 really soon promoting a new single. I am hoping that would remind some idol fans how great she is and to buy her album. I hope there are alot of fans who haven’t purchased her album due to not knowing it is out or forgetting how great she is.

  74. Anovich

WWFM won’t go gold next week — it’s at 425 K so that would be a really sizable jump in sales for it to be able to sell 75K this current week (it sold 52K this past week). It should crack that barrier the following week through. I think we are looking at 3 weeks until LLWD (871K) goes platinum, although it has a slight chance to be able to do it in 2 weeks.

  75. Oh and note that while Brian talks about the upcoming milestones for LLWD and WWFM, he never mentions the terms platinum or gold…

He’s probably a purist. 500,000 and 1,000,000 are sales levels. Gold and platinum certifications mean that the RIAA (or whichever national recording industry in question) has done the audits and verified the sales levels. It can sometimes take a very long time between crossing the threshold and getting the certification if the label doesn’t see a reason to rush it (see Cook and LO).

Obviously, with digital singles, meeting a sales mark does mean qualifying for the certification, but I’m not going to object to a music industry journalist being precise upon the point.

  76. WWFM won’t go gold next week — it’s at 425 K so that would be a really sizable jump in sales for it to be able to sell 75K this current week (it sold 52K this past week). Well, like I said – trying to put it in a positive and have both guys crack the barrier sooner rather than later – music buying can be so fickle at times. However, it would seem that Kris’s next single will likely be launched when he appears on AI since he should break the barrier well before his appearance on the show.

  77. Wow, WFM kind of snuck up on me! Yay! Had no idea it was so close to gold!

  78. I’m glad to see both LLWD and WWFM continue to do well. And with their album sales stabilizing, Kris and Adam can use that steady foundation to move forward with new singles, videos, and promotions. I think both guys are in good shape.

  79. I think Idol should change the minimum age to 18. I do believe Allison needs a few more years and she’ll be big.

I have always believed this as well. I think very few, if any idols under 18 ever really KNOW their style completely yet. I think that takes some time to grow into. Even with Allison, I feel she is not yet completely in any kind of style groove (hence the disconnect with marketing her strongly in a single direction).

  80. im so excited to see adams album and single sales. he really didnt have a single to help his album sales with, it was basically the “adam lambert” brand, not his song. glad his sales have steadied at a good rate. also glad that wwfm will be going gold in 2 weeks most likely. considering wwfm is outperforming llwd’s sales (based on how many weeks they have been out) i also expect wwfm to eventually go platinum also! how exciting!:)

  81. I think Idol should change the minimum age to 18. I do believe Allison needs a few more years and she’ll be big.

I really love Allison’s Scars. It’s well beyond her years, what a beautiful song.

I agree with this, but also understand why it is at 16. Personally, I would love to see 2 more years of maturity, and lets face it those are 2 big years. When they come out at 18 they wouldn’t be pinned with the “teen role”. Allison is a rocker stuck in pergatory. I love Allison but I think she would have done far better post-Idol if she were a little older. AI has some good reasons for keeping the age at 16 though. 1)It is their chance to get their hooks into someone before others do. 2)It really creates more of a family show when kids at home with their families are watching contestants that are only a few years older than them.

  82. I think they should change minimum age to 18 too for American Idol . I think Allison would have been finished with HighSchool and probably would have been more likely to win Idol. I don’t think younger teens under 18 get as many votes they would if they were a bit older.

  83. STFU-please someone tell me that ayla brown is NOT PERFORMING ON IDOL…….

    please????

  84. Thus — just wouldn’t surprise me if Adam’s handlers decide they don’t want him hanging loose for an invite and just schedule him up as much as they can — and thus have him booked somewhere when/if that spur-of-the-moment invitation comes. …. I’d like to see him on the show, and it would certainly give his U.S. sales a shot in the arm…

I agree, I think Adam is capable of flying in and singing the same day – he did that a few times during AI-* summer tour – and Last year David Cook -pre-recorded his appearance on a earlier show and then it was broadcast at a later date – I think AI knows what makes their show work and I truly believe they will not pass up the promotion when Adam is on (*).

It could correspond with Kris and Adam receiving their gold and platinum records (like with David) or the release of the next single (AI did confirm Adam is a few weeks away from the next single) And I do think Kris and Adam will be a part of Idol Gives Back – Kris will have Haiti footage and Adam get’s ‘after press’ so donations would come from bloggers/trollers/and internet news junkies.

(*)If Adam sang Sleepwalker exactly like he did at iheartradio it would be amazing!

I think any of the Idols who produce their albums while on tour are capable of this. Archie, Cook, Kris, Adam and Allison all recorded during the tour. So did Daughtry after Season 5. And just this past week Kris was able to perform with ridiculous jet-lag from Asia.

Has Kris given a definite date of when he would be on the show. I thought he only mentioned that he was going to be on but not with a date – so it wouldn’t surprise me if Adam’s people also know he will be on even if there is no definitive date for his appearance. I just hope Allison will be on, and will do something other than FIBOU, although that song is ever so slowly creeping up based on the daily updates on it’s chart position that everyone here has provided for it.

  86. anovich

I don’t think Kris has specified a date for him going on Idol. Sometime in April is the last thing I read/heard. So yeah, Adam’s management team likely has some idea of when the show might want him to appear, but not necessarily a specific date. I still haven’t seen any official confirmation that Danny will definitely be on the week his album drops, either.

  87. Thus — just wouldn’t surprise me if Adam’s handlers decide they don’t want him hanging loose for an invite and just schedule him up as much as they can — and thus have him booked somewhere when/if that spur-of-the-moment invitation comes. …. Adam’s “handlers” meaning his management are the same people who run American Idol, so I’m pretty sure that they will have him appear on the show. I think when people say that Adam is so far above AI, besides forgetting that Adam wouldn’t be known if he hadn’t participated in the show, they have also forgotten that his record label is 19Records and his management is 19Management.

I agree with all of this. I hope that the second single that Allison talked about Jive possibly doing, will take off and give a much needed shot to her album sales as well. I think the album is good, and she’s too talented not to do better with her sales. Makes me sads that she isn’t doing better.

But on happier news, another excellent week for Kris with single sales, nice to see and increase with his album sales as well. And given his placement on iTunes these past few days, I expect next week will be as stellar. Good week for Adam. And yeah, I think LLWD definitely has a shot at platinum in a few weeks, and WWFM at gold in a few weeks. Yay! Now if album sales for both could get a bit healthier…

  89. First off Yeah for Adam and Kris on their singles doing so well. It is weird how sales from one week to the next can be thousands off even when they are basically at the same position on Itunes. Does only Itunes sales count are does Amazon’s MP3 downloads count too? (Even though I am sure the number is much less) Are they the only two sources for single downloads?

Yeah for Adam’s Album sales. I also was concerned when I did not see him make the top 50 on HDD sales. I also was a little concerned that Daughtry, who was in the top 50 at around 53% was gone after the final numbers. I think Adam is staying pretty consistent with Album sales which is a good sign. Of course I would wish it to be higher but hey its not lower.

I don’t get America. Kris has a fantastic Album and he has a single that to me is definitely a hit. I know some of you say well he needs to have another single, I don’t buy it. There are new artist (most R&B and rap) that have one single out and are huge. Look at Kesha She had one single out and her album sales are pretty good and Kris’s album is a hell of a lot better then hers.

Allison I still think her branding was all wrong. They tried to make her a Radio Disney/tween star. I know she is young but Allison is quality and appeals to an older crowd that can fully appreciate the amazing voice she has been blessed. Oh and if Scars is the second single I am going to do a happy dance. I absolutely flove that song. The need to be pushing her as the next Female Rock star. (Pat Benatar, Janis Joplin, Cyndi Lauper types) and not the next Demi Lovato or Selena Gomez (nothing wrong with either of these two but they are more bubble gum and tween appeal types) I think with Scars they have that opportunity to change her branding and Image. Allison to me is pure Rock even more so then Adam (and I love me some Adam) Adam is Rock/Pop where as Allison is 100% rock and when they try to mix pop with her it falls flat. (Friday I’ll be over you example…good song not for Allison) This is all MHO

Again great sales info for Idols. Oh btw I am sorry Pants on the ground though a novelty song in no way to me should be selling more then Adam, Daughty or Carrie new singles. But that is just me.

  90. I am really happy for Kris and what he has been able to accomplish up until now. The album sales, for me, have been disappointing, but I am so glad that LLWD has done well for him. I am getting excited for the next single too. I wish him success and just want him to be able to continue making music.

And, oh God, Allison – I am just so perplexed! Her album is so good and I would just love the world to figure out how amazingly talented she really is.

    Congrats to Adam as well.

  91. dhunken – I completely agree with your ideas about Allison’s branding. Hopefully Jive will figure this out about her. OTOH, though, the rocker chick role is not such an easy one to sell on radio these days. Rock in general is a very hard sell – female rockers even more so. So, who knows what the best solution is?

  92. Adam is going to be on the Leno Tonight Show on March 2 (the first week of the “new” show)…apparently he is singing Music Again…..won’t help WWFM, but might give album sales a boost. goog gig for Adam

  93. Just to clarify something for you, babybelle, Adam’s record label is RCA.

  94. Does only Itunes sales count are does Amazon’s MP3 downloads count too? (Even though I am sure the number is much less) Are they the only two sources for single downloads?

It should be any download source (itunes or otherwise) but of course itunes accounts for, probably something like 90% of all single sales.

You do have a point…..so then maybe they should lean more towards a Pat Benatar branding…..the voice of Women….not going to take crap anymore…
Empowerment, liberated, fighting back….I don’t think I am being 100% clear but I hope you get what I mean…it would be her gimmick, shtick. It could be done in a Pop/Rock way again ala Pat Benatar. Which bring me to I would love to hear Allison to a cover of Hit me with Your Best Shot I think she would kill it.

  96. llwd vs. wwfm weekly sales

    http://i49.tinypic.com/2egbl2w.png

It should be very obvious that that is not even remotely close to a fair comparison. LLWD had a terrible start to its run and only started to break out around Christmas time.

Thats not really true. Plenty of artists find huge single success but their albums dont really sell. Jay Sean had a #1 hit with Down (which has gone 3x Platinum) yet his album has only sold 141k. Also, you cant really compare the success of LLWD to Tik Tok. Theyre not even close.

Kris’ album sales will pick up when future singles are released and people start making the connection between the artist and the music. Id legitimately be concerned for his career if the album didn’t have anything else to offer, but with songs like Before We Come Undone and Alright With Me having the potential to be bigger hits the LLWD, Kris will be just fine. Remember… slow and steady. He did it this way on Idol, he did it this way with LLWD, and he will do it this way with his album as well.

  97. Kirsten – LOL at your intro to the sales stats!!!

Great results for LLWD sales, as well as WWFM. I think they will hit their respective targets soon – at least I hope they do it before Glee returns and starts disrupting the ITunes charts again!

cakeygirl – I agree that Ayla Brown better not get a spot on IDOL before some of the more prominent past contestants (including some of our S8 favorites), but the show is all about ratings, and with the political connection she has I guess it’s possible the producers would go for it.

I agree with Overboard that the LLWD and WWFM sales figures aren’t really comparable given the fact that they went for adds at different times and are 1st vs. 2nd singles. Keep in mind that WWFM as of this measurement had the benefit of the Christmas boost while LLWD didn’t. I think the comparisons starting Week #14 will look very different, but again, not sure they’re relevant. Both singles are doing well.

dhunken – I think this past sales week LLWD was higher by around 10 spots on ITunes than WWFM, although they are much closer now, so it’s possible that 10 positions could equate to the reported difference. We can see how big the difference is between #1 and 15th, though. Pretty big.

  98. I wish people would stop with the comparisons! They both WWFM and LLWD are doing fine, excellent actually!

I would like to know the singles sales for FYE since it’s doing ok on the dance chart though.

  99. Just to clarify something for you, babybelle, Adam’s record label is RCA.

No, Adam’s record label is 19Records, his music, just like Kris, Allison, Carrie, Daughtry, Kelly’s, etc. is licensed to the Sony labels, in Adam’s case it is RCA. Go back and read the press release when Adam signed, it clearly says that he was signed to 19Records and that his music was being licensed to RCA.

  100. I would like to know the singles sales for FYE since it’s doing ok on the dance chart though.

Doing well on the dance chart isn’t going to result in a lot of sales. FYE fell out of the top 200 downloaded songs two weeks ago, so it’s going to be hard to get the numbers, unless you ask Brian at Idol Chatter to ask for them.

  101. Thanks babybelle32, I was hoping it was still selling some, but obviously not enough to report.

Overboard, thanks for saying this so well. This is really what I have been saying for a while now. Kris is the slow and steady type. while his album sales aren’t very good, he obviously has great potential based on LLWD, and there are songs that are so much better than that on his album, IMO.

I would like to know the singles sales for FYE since it’s doing ok on the dance chart though.

If it helps ease the sting, FYE single debuted at 55 on the Japanese Hot 100 Billboard chart. :-)

  104. dhunken – I think this past sales week LLWD was higher by around 10 spots on ITunes than WWFM, although they are much closer now, so it’s possible that 10 positions could equate to the reported difference. We can see how big the difference is between #1 and 15th, though. Pretty big.

Oh I am not talking between each-other I am talking that last week both singles for themselves where about the same position on Itunes and yet the sales this week for both singles went up. Meaning Last week on Itunes LLWD was around 16-19 and had sales of 57,000 and this week it was 66,000 that is all I am trying to point out. The position on Itunes is relative depending on the week. Kris though maintaining roughly the same position on Itunes sold 9K more in sales. It was an observation not really a point of contention. Same was true for Adam

  105. Some positions (Top 75) on the Digital Songs Chart have leaked (the first two are Last Week-This Week):

**-01 We Are The World 25: For Haiti – Artists For Haiti
24-21 Live Like We’re Dying – Kris Allen
**-22 Pants On The Ground – General Larry Platt
36-34 Whataya Want From Me – Adam Lambert
62-51 Life After You – Daughtry
53-59 Cowboy Casanova – Carrie Underwood
**-67 Temporary Home – Carrie Underwood

  106. Japanese interest is very cool, especially before promo. Something to look forward to!

  107. **-01 We Are The World 25: For Haiti – Artists For Haiti
24-21 Live Like We’re Dying – Kris Allen
**-22 Pants On The Ground – General Larry Platt
36-34 Whataya Want From Me – Adam Lambert
62-51 Life After You – Daughtry
53-59 Cowboy Casanova – Carrie Underwood
**-67 Temporary Home – Carrie Underwood

That’s some impressive upward movement – especially Daughtry’s 11 spot leap.

  108. LLWD is def following the Kris Allen path. Started out slow but has turned into a winner.

IF (big IF) LLWD and/or WWFM get higher than 12 on the Top 40 chart, they will have charted higher on Top 40 than the two singles from last year’s two finalists. It will be hard to match Crush’s two million in sales and #2 ranking on the BB Hot 100 though.

Usually being on top of the charts means big single sales. But they don’t always go hand in hand. Crush’s single sales were much better than the chart position while with someone like Orianthi, ithe opposite is true.

  109. I don’t think Adam will be able to get in the Top 10 without Cumulus, maybe even Top 15. Top 20 might still happen.

I think Allison could work better in a band setting – as in, maybe try to market her less as a solo artist and more as the lead, kick-ass vocalist of a band – this is much easier to sell to radio, imo.

And another thought, maybe the timing is just off. All of these things tend to be cyclical. Right now, the big thing on radio is much more of the dance-electronic-pop sound. But rock bands, female led or otherwise, have definitely gone in and out of style.

  111. I don’t think Adam will be able to get in the Top 10 without Cumulus, maybe even Top 15. Top 20 might still happen.

So, really – if other songs around it are all picked up by Cumulus, and it remains one of the lone holdouts despite, oh, most of the rest of the country (and many top markets) picking up the song, how can they justify NOT picking it up eventually?

  112. So, really – if other songs around it are all picked up by Cumulus, and it remains one of the lone holdouts despite, oh, most of the rest of the country (and many top markets) picking up the song, how can they justify NOT picking it up eventually?

We aren’t in the corporate offices that decide if/when a song is picked up for radio. It took them a while to pick up LLWD as well, even as the song was doing well and all the songs around it were being picked up. Mabe they just don’t like the AI alumns until after they are more established, and not on their first or second singles?

  113. So, really – if other songs around it are all picked up by Cumulus, and it remains one of the lone holdouts despite, oh, most of the rest of the country (and many top markets) picking up the song, how can they justify NOT picking it up eventually?

Probably the same way that the Chicago and LA top 40 stations justify playing WWFM, but not LLWD.

  114. I don’t think Adam will be able to get in the Top 10 without Cumulus, maybe even Top 15. Top 20 might still happen.

    I agree.

I don’t know that Cumulus or anybody ever has to justify not picking something up. If they don’t want to, they don’t have to, and the man in the street will just assume that the song’s appeal went just so high and not higher.

I still think they might pick it up, though. If they don’t, though, I think the song has arrived at pretty near its peak position.

Daughtry, Leave This Town – 61K
Kris Allen, Kris Allen – 33K

Carrie Underwood, Some Hearts – 22K
    Daughtry, Daughtry – 21K
Kelly Clarkson, All I Ever Wanted – 20K

When did the Cumulus stations pick up LLWD? Where was it on the charts when they added it?

  116. When did the Cumulus stations pick up LLWD? Where was it on the charts when they added it?

They added it really early. Jive had a lot to do with this. Just as RCA has had a lot to do with WWFM getting heavy play from Chicago (market rank 3) and LA (market rank 2) top 40 stations. Neither of those stations has added LLWD. Every song and every artist has their obstacles to overcome. Its not unfair, its just how it is.

    .

I think there has been a lot working against Kris in album sales. The big glowing one to me is that there is another Kris Allen and also singer/songwriter Chris Allen (who resembles OUR Kris Allen) who have albums.

KBIG has the country Kris Allen’s album as the link to buy OUR Kris Allen on their website. On Billboard searches, Country Kris Allen comes up. On iTunes, Live LIke We’re Dying shows as not associated with an album at all and as a single only sale. I’ve written to both to have it corrected with no response.

I often wonder if country Kris and SS Chris are seeing an increase in sales due to the confusion. Many reporters were spelling his name as Chris and at least one reviewed country Kris thinking it was AI Kris. BTW, Kris was an online friend with Chris prior to Idol.

I think it was a mistake for Kris to go the self titled route on the album. I think he should have at least used one of the song titles to name it. Red Guitar would have been great, as would a few of the other song titles.

  118. I think the HAC Cumulus stations added LLWD on it’s add date, the top40 a few weeks later.

And I don’t think Cumulus will be the end all of WWFM, it can do well without them.

  119. I am confused about one thing I don’t understand why the acoustic version of WWFM being played do not count as spins when if a dance mix of a song is played it does count. What is the reasoning. It is the same damn song. I just don’t get it.

  120. I don’t think Adam will be able to get in the Top 10 without Cumulus, maybe even Top 15. Top 20 might still happen.

I disagree. Cumulus is, what, 15 stations? I think there over 15 stations that haven’t added LLWD yet on Top 40 and that song is near top 15.

  121. The big glowing one to me is that there is another Kris Allen and also singer/songwriter Chris Allen (who resembles OUR Kris Allen) who have albums.

What are the chances of that?!? And Adam has the bastard Take One album which always seems to be in stock, even when FYE is out of stock. Bizarre. Now throw in an Alex Lambert into the mix (if he goes far and gets a record deal) and the casual AI viewer is never going to be able to keep any of these guys/albums straight. :)

  122. When did the Cumulus stations pick up LLWD? Where was it on the charts when they added it?

I see Overboard provided an answer already, but the specific date on Mediabase is 10/13 for Cumulus Top 40 adds for LLWD, and mid November for Cumulus HAC adds for LLWD. I believe LLWD went for adds around 10/1, so it was within the first couple of weeks. That said, I think lorismile, overboard and others have said WWFM should be fine without Cumulus adds.

  123. On iTunes, Live LIke We’re Dying shows as not associated with an album at all and as a single only sale. I’ve written to both to have it corrected with no response.

I don’t think that is a mistake, just that the label has decided not to remove the single version from iTunes once the album went for sale. Sometimes the single is removed, but not always. For example, the highest-selling version of “TiK ToK” is the single at #5, while the one from the album is at #279, though the album has been out for weeks. It really just depends on what the label wants to do.

I never thought about the Kris/Chris Allen confusion negatively impacting Idol Kris’s album sales, but maybe coming up with another album title would have been the best way to go. The first four Idol winners’ albums weren’t self-titled and they all did pretty well, selling better than winners of S5-S8, so maybe Top 24 of S9 should start getting ideas for album titles now!

  124. Oh I am not talking between each-other I am talking that last week both singles for themselves where about the same position on Itunes and yet the sales this week for both singles went up. Meaning Last week on Itunes LLWD was around 16-19 and had sales of 57,000 and this week it was 66,000

dhunken – oh – I get your question now – LOL! The week where you’re quoting the 57,000 sales for LLWD still had the effect of the Grammy’s and Lil Wayne’s release – LLWD spent a good part of that week in the mid 20’s ranking on ITunes (coming down from the high 20’s during Grammy week). Who knows if overall digital sales remain consistent from one week to the next, but LLWD was definitely ranked worse on ITunes the prior week than this past week by a good 8-10 spots.

  125. according to jim cantiello (mtv news reporter), kris is set to go to haiti on friday (speculation that this will link to idol gives back) and perform on next week’s idol’s result show. hopefully sales will pick up (especially if he performs a different song from his album).

if/when he performs on idol on a later date, it would probably be promoting his next single (my bets on BWCU)

  128. There are actually two versions of LLWD on the iTunes Top 1000 chart. The single is the one that (last I looked) was at #18. The album version is usually ranked up in the 700’s…I’m pretty sure that only the downloads of the version marked as the single counted toward Kris eventually reaching platinum status for this song.

Girlygirl, i’m pretty sure both version are counted, just like both versions of Adam’s FYE album (as well as KATA’s albums) are counted….the sales are just added together for a total

  130. Looking at the monitored lists, there are 33 Top 40 stations that haven’t added WWFM and 14 are Cumulus. It might not be the end all be all for the song, but it sure would help accumulate the spins. Houston, Atlanta and DC are pretty big markets.

  131. I think the main problem with Allison’s sales (or lack thereof)is that her music really isn’t being heard much outside of the “Idol bubble”. People can’t buy what they don’t know about. Idol fans are aware of Allison’s album, but for the most part the general public isn’t. Her lead single tanked on radio, so she doesn’t have anything out there on the airwaves for the general public to hear. Sure, she’s had some television appearances and a few radio gigs, but they can’t substitute for a hit single that’s being heard by many ears across the country.

I think Allison’s album is one of the better Idol debuts I’ve heard in eight seasons. I’m annoyed with Jive’s handling of her so far, to be honest. The writing was on the wall with Friday I’ll Be Over U weeks ago. Jive should have been as proactive as RCA was with FYE/WWFM and released another single as soon as it was clear that radio wasn’t interested in FIBOU. What are they waiting on?

  132. Love how Kris, as usually, has snuck up those sales charts. So many singles come out, fizzle out, and get no second win. He’s getting a third and fourth with LLWD!

So who thinks it will go platinum? Or is that too much to hope for?

  133. Thanks for the numbers, Kirsten! LLWD keeps chugging along. I always knew it would be a winner. I think Jive has paced this song well. Also, the Kris Allen/Script connection has benefited the Script, as I thought it would do. Breakeven is doing quite well on the HAC and pop chart. Again those in charge knew exactly what they were doing. There is always a game plan, even if many can’t see it. Gotta have Faith! Of course, not everything goes as planned, but I’d say LLWD has done just that.

  134. So who thinks it will go platinum? Or is that too much to hope for?

LLWD? It’s going to go platinum in a couple weeks, probably 3 at most! :)

Cool to see WWFM and LLWD continuing to do well. :)

  135. o who thinks it will go platinum? Or is that too much to hope for?

i was thinking the same thing…at this rate, i guess it would take 3-5 weeks (depending if those weekly numbers hold). too bad it wont happen prior to his 2/25 idol appearance , so they can make a mention of it and he can flip off simon :) i kid i kid

  136. colette

There is pretty much no way LLWD WON’T go platinum. Unless for some reason Jive just suddenly made it unavailable for sale (which won’t happen). It only needs to sell 129 K more to go platinum — and considering it is selling 50+K every week, it should pass the 1 million mark in 3 more weeks.

SO CLOSE to going Top 20 on the Billboard Top 100. Ahhhhhhhh!

Girlygirl I feel your pain! He is so close. I say Next week he will be comfortably in top 20. 21 this week I predict 17 next week.

  138. hmmm #21 for LLWD on Billboard Top 100…. let’s go little song, make the top 20 next week!

He could do it in two weeks. If he only needs 129K and he can keep the same pace as this week 66K that would add up to 132K in two weeks. I know that will not be easy but it is still with in the realm of possibility. I am going to be crossing my fingers that he does it in two weeks. I think His sales will go up. Remember every-time Idol shows his commercial for Ford comes on, which does help with sales and I believe next week Idol is on 3 days a week. So more visibility!

  142. So who thinks it will go platinum? Or is that too much to hope for?

Colette, I absolutely think LLWD will go platinum. It’s following a similar path that David Archuleta’s “Crush” did in the summer of ’08. If it gets into CHR’s top 10, that’s “power rotation” territory and that will certainly do the trick. Even if it stays it the low teens, I think it will make it. LLWD is also a huge hit on HAC, and songs have a long shelf-life on that format. When those songs are CHR big hits, the HAC shelf-life is even longer. LLWD will be played on radio frequently for a long, long time.

I’m even willing to make a prediction. I think LLWD will go platinum in 4 to 6 weeks. If sales hold steady, it will happen next month.

  143. Scott

It won’t take LLWD anywhere near that long to go platinum. It needs to sell 129K more (currently at 871K). It sold 66 K last week. It has an outside shot at going platinum in 2 weeks. It will almost defintiely go platinum in the next 3 weeks, since it is remaining steady on the iTunes chart.

  144. When is Danny going to see some increase in his sales? His song is on the country charts and his music video evidently is popular, but his single isn’t selling very well. It’s been out for about 2 months now, yet has sold just 26K total? Even if country music fans are more likely to buy albums than download singles (as I’ve been told several times), this number still seems unimpressive to me and makes me doubt that (unless he gets a HUGE boost off an Idol appearance) that his album will sell well its debut week.

Meanwhile, Allison’s numbers just depress the hell out of me…

David Cook, Come Back to Me (9,000 weekly/442,000 total)
Kristy Lee Cook, 15 Minutes of Shame (45,000 total)
Danny Gokey, My Best Days Are Ahead of Me (2,000 weekly/26,000 total)
Allison Iraheta, Friday I’ll Be Over U (3,000 weekly/49,000 total)
Jordin Sparks, S.O.S. (Let the Music Play) (1,000 weekly/111,000 total)
Anna Wilson, You Don’t Know Me (feat. Matt Giraud) (1,000 debut week)

    And, finally, a few albums:

Allison Iraheta, Just Like You (1,000 weeklly/85,000 total)
Jordin Sparks, Jordin Sparks (1.034 million total)
Jordin Sparks, Battlefield (1,000 weekly/162,000 total)

  145. girlygirl, I think you are right on target. I guess I was being conservative, but I don’t expect sales for LLWD to dip anytime soon. At least not substantially. So yes, Mr. Allen will have his first platinum single in a coupel of weeks! Go Kris!!

  146. Oh I hope Kris’ single goes platinum. Then he can release another one… there are a few songs I could see doing really well and some i just want to hear on the radio. Music seems like a slow business, now that we have all the instant updates. I would like to Allison release a second single as well.

  147. Adam is tracking nearly identical to Jordin, Kris not so much. Adam’s total sales is even right on pars with Jordin so he might go platinum around the same time she did or possibly sooner if his airplay keeps up. Kris is going to have to start doing better than ’steady’ to reach gold IMO.

I really feel that RCA is not happy that Adam’s FYE didn’t already reach platinum weeks ago considering all the promotion it & he has gotten. He really hasn’t had a great “single.” Sure his album is Gold, but it should have reached that in ~4-5 weeks (which it didn’t) & his album (Billboard/Soundscan) was in top 20 twice since its debut & last week dropped off top 50. It would have been in top 20 only once if it hadn’t gotten a boost from Oprah. Spark’s 2nd single “No Air” has sold 4 million digital copies worldwide but her album took over 1 year to go platinum. “Battlefield” has sold over 1 million copies. She is at least a singles artist, which seems to be the way things are going these days in the “business.” Jive seems to be happy with singles sales & it doesn’t put out a lot of money on promotion; however RCA puts in money to promote albums & I doubt RCA is happy with Adam’s FYE sales in general. FYE was advertised as “The Most Anticpated Album….” His album has finally reached reached gold here in the U.S. Let’s all remember – the new season is underway, new fanwars, new interests, new albums being released every week. I am sure that Lambert will perform the week before the finale (as is tradition) and Allen will perform on the finale (as is tradition) & that will help their sales hopefully.
