‘American Idol’ mentor Scott Borchetta on signing Steven Tyler, Taylor Swift – And Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler wasn’t that. Still, Borchetta approached the multi-scarfed howler out of the blue at a Grammys charity show last year with a direct and unorthodox pitch: he wanted the 67-year-old to make his first-ever solo album, and he wanted the rocker to turn country. Dream on, right? “He looked at me like: ‘Who in the hell are you?’” Borchetta recalled. “He’s super passionate. When he looks at you, he gets right up in your face, looks through your eyes and into your soul. “And he was just staring at me. He goes: ‘I don’t know who you are. But I’m intrigued.’” As usual, Borchetta’s timing was fortuitous. This week, Tyler announced he was joining the industry mogul’s Big Machine Label Group. That roster already includes the Band Perry, Florida Georgia Line, Tim McGraw, Reba, Rascal Flatts and, of course, Swift. – Read more at 680News

He spent 72 hours under a psychiatric hold for evaluation last August after he posted what some interpreted as a suicide note on social media. Gracin denies that was his intent, but admitted the time he spent in that care was eye-opening. “My father was diagnosed as bipolar,” Gracin said in a phone interview. “My ex-wife’s family members have dealt with depression.” It was reported Gracin was battling depression when a social media post caught public attention. It read, “Please remember me as someone who gave his all in his music. … Pray for my family as they carry on in this world without me. Goodbye.” He indicated that marital troubles prompted the message and it was not a plan to harm himself. – Read more at MLive

Clay Aiken, was your bid for Congress just an excuse for a new reality TV show? – Those who got to see Aiken in action may have been surprised by just how candid, foul-mouthed and well-versed on the issues he had become. But those who didn’t get to see him in action then will get to see him now: On Tuesday, the Esquire network aired the first of four installments of “Runner Up,” its documentary on Aiken’s congressional run. When Esquire first announced the series (made by Simon Chinn, the Oscar-winning producer of “Man on Wire” and “Searching for Sugar Man”) it was met with derision: Of course Aiken had a reality series in development; perhaps this was what this whole congressional run was all about? – Washington Post

Clay Aiken’s candidate days featured in docu-series – “I’ve got a microphone,” Aiken told USA TODAY in an interview last week. “If I use that microphone for people who didn’t think they had a chance … that’s even more powerful than winning.” That means talking more about veterans’ issues, jobs and the economy and what Aiken said he believes are the flaws in the political process — such as the gerrymandering of congressional districts. – Read more at USA Today

X Factor’s Willy Moon lets rip on Twitter – More than three weeks later, Moon still seems to be letting the cold shoulder given to him by the New Zealand public bother him, posting on Twitter that he would never do reality TV again. He said it was sad he was not able to help up and coming New Zealand bands and that people only related to “no talent karaoke singers” with sob stories. The experience was fake but he and his wife would live and learn, he said. – Read more at Stuff.co.NZ

Dancing with the Stars celeb blog: Robert Herjavec talks waltzing in memory of his mother – The ballroom swelled with emotion last night as we all danced to represent our most memorable years. Kym and I performed a tribute to my mom. set to her favourite song, Engelbert Humperdinck’s “The Last Waltz.” We knew we had the waltz this week, and wanted to stay true to the classic and grand nature of the dance.
