Idol Headlines for 04/22/10 – The Evening Edition

Tim Urban exit Q&A: Bye-bye, lustrous hair!

That hair. Those teeth. Those vocal cords…. Well, two outta three ain’t bad. Pretty boy Tim Urban may have gotten the boot last night for an uninspiring rendition of the Goo Goo Dolls’ “Better Days, ” but he’s already counting the days down until his next career starts. Anyone out there looking for a super dreamy Joseph?

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Tim, I have to say I loved you and I’m sorry you’re gone.
TIM URBAN: Thanks. I love you too.

Idol Gives Back: On The Scene in Pasadena

In tree-covered, sleepy downtown Pasadena, Idol was giving back in its second, non-Hollywood home. (John Young has the scoop of what went down in the Idoldome a mere 15 miles away). But things weren’t as cheery before the show as the audience waited in the rain, uncovered, to pass through security. People grumbled; rain in L.A. can be tough for the faint of urban heart. The Pasadena Civic Auditorium is quite beautiful, I had time to notice, like an old-style courtroom, built in the year blah-blah-long-time-ago. But the social chaos outside was more like a nightclub, with Idol-ites pushing to get in like the Titanic was sinking — in Sunday fineries instead of short dresses and shiny shirts.

Inside “Idol Gives Back”

Thanks to my friends at FOX, I scored some amazing seats to the show at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. The crowd was as energetic as if they were watching the entire show live, instead of just a few performances. With the exception of the Black Eyed Peas sort of odd and badly sung performance, the house was blown away by the vocals from Joss Stone, Carrie Underwood and Elton John.

Backstage, our cameras were there as Carrie explained how the song she sang, “Change, ” was the perfect fit for this show. “It’s on my latest album. It just talks about how the smallest thing can make a huge difference.” Carrie announced during the show that 36 cents (a number which is referenced in the song) of every ticket sale from her upcoming Fall tour will go to “Save The Children, ” one of the beneficiaries of “Idol Gives Back.”

‘American Idol’ ex-producer Nigel Lythgoe: ‘I would replace the entire judging panel’

As Simon Cowell gets ready to leave “American Idol” for his new baby, “X Factor, ” an original “Idol” producer, Nigel Lythgoe, says he thinks the show should do a major overhaul of the judges table.

“I would replace the entire judging panel, ” Lythgoe tells Zap2it. “I don’t think it really works replacing one person. They don’t have a great deal of chemistry at the moment. Ryan [Seacrest] and Simon have fallen out. It’s uncomfortable to watch. Ellen [DeGeneres] hasn’t worked out as well as we would have hoped.”

Not only does Lythgoe think they should return to three judges, but proposes two new names and one old as well. So who would he pick?

“Elton John, Usher and Paula Abdul, ” Lythgoe says.

Crystal Bowersox American Idol 2010 Betting Odds Shorten Further As Tim Urban Finally Goes

Crystal Bowersox Is Looking More And More Unbeatable Each Week
Crystal Bowersox continues to shorten in the American Idol 2010 Betting Odds and seems almost certain to win, she is now just 4/6 with Bet365 who offer up to £200 in free bets to new customers. She was only a shade odds on at the beginning of the week but another great performance this week (has she ever not put in a great performance£) has propelled her further clear of her rivals. Her biggest rival remains Lee Dewyze and it is hard to see anyone else making a fight of it, Lee Dewyze is currently 18/5 with Bet365.

American Idol’ Experts Say Tim Urban Tried Too Hard

“Tim did well as long as he chose songs within his very limited vocal range, ” she said. “He made an ambitious song choice this week and it did him in. His pitchy, uneven vocals overruled his sincerity. Having said that, Tim didn’t really have much left in his tank anyway. He had a good, solid run for a contestant with so few vocal gifts.”

MJ sees modeling and acting in Urban’s future, or possibly a shot at another reality gig. “If Jason Gaston moves out of the ‘If I Can Dream’ house, Tim could take his place as the resident hottie.”

SomethingPitchy Broadcast: Back to Reality

Today, the SomethingPitchy panel sat down to dish on of this week’s hottest ‘Idol’ topics, from the elimination of Tim Urban (tear!), to Crystal vs. Lee to an otherwise bloated edition of ‘Idol Gives Back.’

Joining host Andy Scott in the studio were Rickey Yaneza (Rickey.org), Rae Votta (AOL Music) and Jim Cantiello (MTV News), with special guest Melinda Green (TopIdol) on Skype.

‘Idol Gives Back’ takes long route to elimination

“Idol Gives Back” had an ambitious goal on Wednesday, asking its viewers to open their wallets for worthy causes in both the United States and Africa. But if I had a bunch of extra cash to donate to where it would really do some good, I know exactly what I would do with it.

I’d buy everyone associated with “American Idol” a watch.

Ryan Seacrest did warn everyone that the show was going to run long, and he wasn’t kidding. He kicked things off at 8 p.m. ET, and 144 endless minutes later, we finally said goodbye to Tim Urban.

Why Is ‘American Idol’ Slipping In The Ratings?

“It’s all about casting, ” says MJ Santilli of MJ’s Big Blog. “‘Dancing with The Stars’ ratings are up because the producers assembled a cast that captured viewers imaginations. It didn’t hurt to have tabloid fodder like Kate Gosselin on board. Viewers want to tune in to see what she’ll do next.”

And even though Gosselin’s casting was controversial — and ABC’s competitive advantage in that category might be wiped out by her elimination this week — Santilli still sees problems with this season’s ‘Idol’ starpower.

Who gets Tim Urban’s votes?

Tuesday night, when my 8-year-old daughter got busy signals while trying to vote for Tim Urban, she fell back on her second choice while waiting for Tim’s line to clear. She wound up casting 10 votes for Siobhan Magnus before she could finally get through to vote for her favorite. (“I don’t care if he isn’t any good!” she had told me earlier that evening. “He’s cute!”)

Allison Iraheta gets backup from Adam Lambert in ‘Latina’ cover story

In the story, Allison discusses her Salvadoran roots and previous attempts at talent show fame, and though the writer points out that sales of her debut album haven’t exactly been stellar, Allison has the full confidence of Adam Lambert when it comes to her future music career. “It’s going to take some time, but she’ll get there, ” Adam is quoted as saying. He also jokes about telling Allison she can move in with him if and when she decides to attend college. “Allison’s still like my little sister, even though we don’t get to see each other as much, ” he said.
