American Idol’s Secret Weapon: Marc Anthony

“A lot of the struggle that had been going on in prior performances was that we hadn’t adjusted to the ‘In Ears, ‘” says Naima Adedapo, referring to the custom-made earpieces that singers often use to balance out sound levels when they’re singing with a live band on a big stage. Most of the contestants performed with the earpieces for the first time last week during their second performance.

“We couldn’t really hear ourselves, ” says Adedapo. “We were having ‘pitchy’ problems. But Marc Anthony took the time to sit with us one on one and say, ‘Okay, how does it sound, how does it feel?’ It added so much.”

Bo Bice comes to St. Louis with new tunes

When people ask if he was trying to go country, he says, “If you look at the songs on there, I salt-and-peppered it with things that made sense, without confusing people.”

Bice conceived his third project as a live album. But along the way, he decided to team up with his own Sugar Money label for a studio collaboration under Saguaro Road Records. Bice recorded the tracks, and some of the live versions have surfaced online.

Birthday Greetings From an ‘Idol’ Contestant to Build the Brand

FOR “American Idol, ” having more than five million followers on Facebook is encouraging, but there is something besides devotion the show wants from Facebook users: cash.

Beginning Friday, Facebook users will be encouraged to spend $1 to send each other video messages recorded by the 10 finalists on the show. The videos, through a partnership with an application called Cameo Stars, will feature the contestants sending birthday wishes or a poke, a common Facebook greeting.

How ‘American Idol’ Will Make Money Off Facebook

“There is a feeling that it’s customized for you because it’s being delivered to you on your own page and because a character is walking toward you and talking toward the camera, ” Olivier Delfosse, vp for interactive at FremantleMedia Enterprises, which co-produces Idol in the U.S., told the Times. He said the licensing deal behind the new offer boosts brand value and allows Idol to make money. Only time will tell how much.
