HDD – Album Sales Prediction : Mar 7-13

With just a tad over 40% of the market reporting, it looks like pretty slim pickings for the Idols. In fact, the only Idols on the HDD top 50 chart are the very first and the very last female winners. Kelly Clarkson’s hugely successful duet with Jason Aldean has helped to keep his album in the top 10. Meanwhile, Jordin Spark’s collaboration with Big Time Rush is part of their top 50 album (49).

Lupe Fiasco’s Laser may beat out Adele’s “21” for the top spot on this week’s chart, but the woman still dominate the top 5. Third spot goes to Avril’s “Goodbye Lullaby” and Sara Evans “Stronger”. Both albums are debuting this week. Now 37 continues to sell to those who refuse to embrace iTunes to round out the top 5.

The Glee Cast’s latest album, Volume 5, is currently set to debut in 6th spot. Is it me, or is Glee starting to lose some steam? Last November, with 54% reporting, their 4th album had already been credited with 67, 099. With 40% reporting, Vol 5 is at 18, 403. I guess they should try serving some more plot with those songs…

This is the daily number’s thread with its laser beam intensity.

  3. Kristen, I always appreciate your numbers post. I love seeing where the Idol are numbers-wise. and YAY, Kelly!

is beyond hilarious…but I thought this was a family blog?;)

  4. Is it me, or is Glee starting to lose some steam?

No, it’s not just you. Last few episodes have sucked and most of the music has been forgettable as well. My kids don’t even bother watching the show after I record it on the DVR anymore. I think the novelty has worn off.

  5. Is it me, or is Glee starting to lose some steam?

No, it’s not just you. Last few episodes have sucked and most of the music has been forgettable as well. My kids don’t even bother watching the show after I record it on the DVR anymore. I think the novelty has worn off.

Was wondering that myself. And I also think these “original songs”, while interesting in theory, are gonna be a big dud. I imagine something akin to the Idol coronation numbers in terms of lame suckage levels. It’s one thing when you take a familiar song, particular one you’d never imagine being covered by a glee club, and having a cool novelty there. It’s another to write something new and hope it’ll be cool and fresh when sung by a glee club.

  6. Is it me, or is Glee starting to lose some steam?

When I first saw Glee I loved it. Now I’m bored with it. I don’t think I ever got bored so quickly with a show before with the exception of perhaps Ugly Betty. Glee in the beginning had some really good story lines. Now it seems like one big commercial to push singles on iTunes for more profit. They lost credibility in my eyes by continuosly pushing Paltrow. I know she comes from a long line of actors and powerful insiders but come on now. Are they going to shove Tori Spelling making her musical debut on us next? What grabbed me in the beginning were the stories. I found the singing annoying. But the stories were relevant and hot topics.

  7. Is it me, or is Glee starting to lose some steam?

It is for me. I check the songs here and that’s it.

They lost credibility in my eyes by continuosly pushing Paltrow.

She’s only been on twice. I don’t have a problem with her, per se, but I hated/hate the “theme” episodes – Brittany, MJ, Beiber, etc.

I enjoyed this show the first season when it focused on an actually plot concerning the characters. I like the characters, that’s why I watched. The infusion of music made the whole thing magic. Now, plot has disappeared and we get music wrapped around….? Not enough to keep me watching.

  8. ITA re glee. Loved it last year- now I’m bored and over it. The show now seems like one big commercial for whatever artists or guest stars they are highlighting that week. The focus has been taken off the characters and stories and now it’s just ” let’s see how many songs we can cram in an episode”.

  11. Is it me, or is Glee starting to lose some steam

    No, it is not you.
I copied last season to DVD.
This year I delete it promptly from my DVR after watching it.
No need to rewatch. I liked one or two musical numbers, but without the plot it’s like watching VH1 videos.

This sums up my experience exactly, except I’m still half watching, hoping Ryan Murphy will come to his senses. Let’s just say I’m not terribly optimistic. As long as I have room on my DVR, I’ll keep recording it, but it’s been demoted to the lowest tier on the “priority list.”

  13. As long as I have room on my DVR, I’ll keep recording it, but it’s been demoted to the lowest tier on the “priority list.”

My DVR has only 20 hours for HD recording, so Glee it’s not even on “priority list”
I need room for something more important (Yes, Mr.Lambert, I’m looking at you.. :-) )

  14. And I also think these “original songs”, while interesting in theory, are gonna be a big dud. I imagine something akin to the Idol coronation numbers in terms of lame suckage levels.

The morning DJs at my local HAC station agree with you. They do a Glee song each Wednesday at 7 a.m., and today they mildly scoffed at the originals and announced they’d be playing one of the cover songs tomorrow.

It’s a single data point, and it’s DJ hijinks rather than a PD decision, so I wouldn’t put more than a finger’s weight on it, but I found it amusing in light of the convo here.

  15. #224 – DYFAM – it is still there! I have no idea why LOL

Heh. Now let’s see if it bumps on Thursday. It will be fun if the song rides that list for ten weeks on a 49 second background clip, and makes a splash w/the performance night.

  16. Glee is def losing steam. But the thing that really irks me (even more than Paltrow) is that Glee now has a spot in history with the most entries in the Top 100 EVER. Over Elvis Presley and the Beatles??? That’s so wrong. Not a fair comparison when you have a weekly release of 5 songs compared to one album every year or two.

  17. is beyond hilarious…but I thought this was a family blog?;)

Oh my. That one was a doozy (runs away and hides).

    Fixed.

Heh. I have to admit this boot song thing has me curious now. I never expected much and I still don’t, but I am curious just how long it will manage to hang out high enough to get weekly numbers.

Does it still have a postage stamp thingy at ITunes? I know one appeared Saturday morning. I guess that’s why its still there?

  20. They lost credibility in my eyes by continuosly pushing Paltrow.

I like Paltrow, and I think her character is fun. But I’d be happier if she got a couple songs when she’s on, rather than ALL the songs. I mean, they had Carol Burnett on and she only sang once. That’s a damned shame.

Also, it’s not Glee’s fault that Paltrow is singing everywhere recently, but it’s overkill. Enough.

I don’t know with Glee. I feel like it’s running in a million different directions. Some of them I like, but some of them bug me because I’m missing stuff I want to see. For example, I got really hooked on the show with the Kurt/Karofsky storyline and that’s been on the backburner for way too many episodes, and instead I’m sitting through Quinn and Finn and Rachel stuff that just seems endless.

Love the Warblers and really love the Warblers sound, but a lot of their songs appear to be done just because they are selling on Itunes. In terms of story, the narrative movement has been glacial. I like that they are trying to improve their performances (how I wish ND could be so ambitious!), but the whole payoff to the Warblers this week was Blaine’s discovery that Kurt didn’t have a good sexy-face. Is this story really going anywhere?

  21. Does it still have a postage stamp thingy at ITunes? I know one appeared Saturday morning. I guess that’s why its still there?

Not anymore, tinawina – or not on my feed – Idol has the cast recording and the Vol 1 song thing. But DYFAM is hanging at 90 on the Pop list – that’s one of my curiosities for tomorrow – will it bump?

This Boot Song is a slightly different animal than those from the past, and no one seems to know quite what to expect it to do – which tickles me, for some reason – WTF!Cook maybe?

    *chuckle*
