HDD – Album Sales Prediction – Dec 6-12

This week will likely be the biggest shopping week of the year for albums. The two weeks before Christmas generally are and next week will be cut short by the day itself. So, this likely means that the previous week (Dec 6-12) was the second biggest week of the year. So, what were people flocking to the mall to buy? Clearly, it was Christmas songs. There were 3 Christmas albums in the top 5 and 11 in the top 50. In the past, Christmas albums had strict re-currency rules and would be out of the BB200 a year after their release. Now, thanks to MJ (the singer, not the blogger), albums no longer go re-current.

That said, it is not a Christmas album topping our the HDD charts this week. Taylor has wrestled the top spot away from SuBo. Coming in second in the Christmas album battle is Glee because one is allowed to cover Christmas songs without derision. The lone debut in the top 5 is T.I.’s “No Mercy. And rounding out the top 5 is AGT’s runner-up Jackie Evancho with her Christmas album (Simon must be rolling around in his Scrooge McDuck money swimming pool about now because he only had to pay to record 4 tracks and he gets to pocket the mechanical royalties since all those songs are no longer copyright protected).

So, where are the Idols? They are lurking on other albums. Kelly Clarkson has teamed with Country Hot Shot Jason Aldean for a duet on his album “My Kind of Party”. Daughtry and Adam Lambert have tracks on the latest Now album (36!) and Carrie Underwood has a track on the latest Now Christmas album (4!).

This is the daily numbers thread. Show Some Mercy.
