Glee – ‘Blame it On Alcohol’ – Recap and Videos

GLEE: Will (Matthew Morrison, L) and Coach Beiste (guest star Dot-Marie Jones, R) watch the glee club perform in the "Blame It on the Alcohol" episode of GLEE airing Tuesday, Feb. 22 (8:00-9:01 PM ET/PT) on FOX. ©2011 Fox Broadcasting Co. CR: Adam Rose/FOX

Erm. Yeah. Witty one-liners notwithstanding (K-E Dollar Sign Ha. Oh I missed you Figgins!) tonight’s episode was a hot mess.

The whole Blaine/Rachel hook-up was as stupid as I thought it would be. Nothing about it made sense. So, Blaine kisses Rachel when he’s drunk and suddenly questions his sexuality? And as suddenly as he questions it, he realizes he’s gay after all (after kissing Rachel when he’s sober)? I was right, the plotline was a way to give the straight fangirls a little fodder for their fan fic.

Ryan Murphy was trying to have it both ways here. In order to keep the episode from turning into an after-school special, he threw in a couple of references to kids-being-kids and hey the adults drink too! Yada yada. But in the end, there’s a “drinking is bad kids!” message anyway, probably at the behest of the network. It was a fine line that I don’t think Murphy walked very well.

And gee, is it really possible that Burt Hummel has no idea how gay men have sex? Uhm. Alrighty then.

There was some good stuff in tonight’s episode: The look on Emma Pillsbury’s face as she listened to Will’s mis-dialed drunk call over the McKinley High PA system was priceless. Despite hating the story line, I LOVED the Rachel/Blaine duet of “Don’t You Want Me Baby”. (Cool to see Kurt and Blaine out of Dalton uniforms for a change!). Brittany doing her best Ke$sha was awesome. Too bad she couldn’t finish. Heh.

Oh, and how did the Glee kids end up singing “Tik Tok” when Will made them change their original pick “Blame it on the Alcohol” because it glorified booze? What?

Kurt had some great one liners too. Love his mocking of Rachel’s “crush” on Blaine. And Rachel’s ode to her hairbush was hilarious.

I’d love to see some interaction between Kurt and Finn in the house, to highlight the fact that they are part of the same family now.

The last couple of Glee episodes have left me a little disappointed. Next week, Idol takes over the time slot, so we’ll get another little break. On March 15, the Glee kids perform original songs. That should be something.

Tonight’s Glee finds Rachel throwing a house party with her fellow gleeksters. With her two gay dads on vacation, bad boy Puck supplies the bash with wine coolers and things…may get a little out of control. I’ll be back with a recap later.
