Hey Everyone!
I hope you are all well and had a fabulous winter. Last we spoke, season twenty-one of Dancing with the Stars ended with Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough as our new champions. And now, we are about to begin season twenty-two, the spring edition with all new celebrties, challenges, and good cheesy fun. It may seem like last season just ended for some of us, but here we go again! Even though the majority of this season’s cast (if not all) have been spoiled around the web over the last few weeks, I am still excited to see the official reveal this morning on Good Morning America.
A few notable things to mention before we get to the cast reveal:
*Len Goodman, as we heard last season, is back as head judge. He will once again be joined by Carrie Ann and Bruno.
*Julianne Hough will not return as a judge this season.
*Derek Hough is also out as a professional dancer this season.
*Edyta Sliwinska is returning as a professional dancer. This is her first season back since the show’s tenth edition.
*Artem Chigvintsev is also back as a regular.
*Peta Murgatroyd returns from an injury this season.
*Tom and Erin are back as our dynamic duo co-hosts.
If any other surprises are announced in addition to the cast, I will list them here. But for now, let’s see (or at least get official confirmation) on which celebrities we have to look forward to this time around and see them in their first live television appearance.
As previously announced on GMA, two official announcements have been made.
Actress Jodie Sweeten will be paired up with Keo Motsepe and Weather presenter Ginger Zee is teamed up with Val Chmerkovskiy. It should be interesting to see if Keo is able to finally get one of his partners to last more than just a couple of weeks. He could have a contender in Jodie. As for Ginger, she is a big personality and having just given birth, she looks determined to do well. She could be a really solid match for Val’s intensity.
The pros are having a lot of fun this morning, getting to do some awesome dancing throughout the show. All 12 pros are on hand and dancing in pairs and all together.
Time for some reveals:
Actress Jodie Sweeten and Keo Motsepe.
NFL star Antonio Brown and Sharna Burgess.
UFC fighter Paige VanZant and Mark Ballas.
Singer Wanya Morris and Lindsay Arnold.
Actress Marla Marples and Tony Dovolani.
NFL star Doug Flutie and Karina Smirnoff.
Actress Mischa Barton and Artem Chigvintsev.
NFL star Von Miller and Witney Carson.
Actress Kim Fields and Sasha Farber.
Reporter Geraldo Rivera and Edyta Sliwinska.
Model Nyle DiMarco and Peta Murgatroyd.
Weather presenter Ginger Zee and Val Chmerkovskiy.
And there you have it. Interviews with some of the cast upcoming on GMA. This looks like a strong cast. Three (yes, three) football stars. And all of them pretty darn popular as well. Some really notable television stars from a lot of former fan favorite shows. The model in the cast is a winner of America’s Next Top Model and is the first deaf model to ever compete on that show (though not the first deaf contestant on this one). Geraldo and Ginger and known for their reporting, so that’s a good get for the show. Of course, they had to include a female sports star of some sorts with UFC fighter Paige. In terns of the music industry, one of the members of Boyz II Men is here, though I don’t think he is the most popular one that most know. And finally, of course the show had to do something Donald Trump related by having his ex-wife on.
Time to get to know the cast a bit…
Jodie says she is working really hard and she thinks she is going to do well. Paige notes she is bringing it all from the ring to the ballroom. She says she will win. Marla Maples is excited. It’s her mother’s favorite show. Mischa didn’t meet anyone before today but she says it is fun. Geraldo says the show was on his bucket list. Von, who just won MVP at the SuperBowl is hoping to take home another trophy. Von gets uo to do his touchdown dance. Doug makes a joke about drinking to loosen up. Wanya says it has been awesome so far. Antonio says it is business against Von, not personal. Kim says NeNe told her to have a lot of fun and just have a ball. Nyle is excited because he hasn’t met the panel and never danced. Peta notes the challenge of Nyle not hearing the music but says it is all visual. Finally, Ginger says this is a dream come true and Val says she has a great spirit about her.
Now, it is time for a game because… why not? The dancers and pros are split into two teams to guess some famous dances. The winners get a trophy (LOL). Jodie and Keo perform “The Cabbage Patch,” which Wanya’s team correctly guesses. Paige and Mark do “The Running Man,” and again, Wanya’s team gets it. Von and Witney are up next, doing “The Typewriter,” which gives Lindsay’s team a point. Ginger and Val do “Kid ‘N Play” and once again, Wanya’s team is first to answer. Antonio and Sharna are up with “The Robot” which Lindsay’s team easily gets. However, with a score of 3-2, Wanya’s team is victorious. Well, that was…fun. It did give us a moment to see some of the celebs dancing and I’ll just say…keep rehearsing until the premiere guys.
Finally this morning, last season’s winner Bindi is on hand via satellite from Australia. She tells the cast to believe in themselves and surround tjemselves with good support. Bindi is still adorable and very humble. By the way, Bindi is joined by a snake because that’s how she rolls.
Don’t forget guys, the new season of DWTS premieres on Monday, March 21st, at 8PM Eastern. I will be here each and every Monday night to blog and I hope you join me for the ride. At some point in the next week (perhaps very soon), I will put up some pre-season polls to see who you are already backing and looking forward to seeing in the ballroom. Well, there you have it. The official reveal is over. Have a great Tuesday everyone! :D
