Chicago Auditions Update, Plus Other Idol Tidbits

UPDATE: According to Idol Chatter, Keith Semple, the dude we got a brief glimpse of at the end of the Chicago auditions, was disqualified before Hollywood due to visa problems (He’s Irish). Carly Smithson (Also Irish!) had similar problems when she auditioned in Season 5, she got the visa stuff sorted out, and came back for Season 7.

Brian Mansfield has also posted some interesting bits about Vanessa Wolfe (Atlanta auditions) Crystal Bowersox (Chicago, not shown), Chris Golightly (Orphan Boy), Ben Honeycutt and some other hopefuls HERE. Vanessa’s grandfather was the former mayor of her hometown, Venore, TN.

Plus, Richard Rushfield of the Daily Beast has written an interesting “behind the myth” type article about the Idol auditions.  Things aren’t always what they seem.

Along the same vein, is this article I posted in headlines this morning from a teen, Michael Ryan, who got to the judges in Boston, but was ultimately rejected.

And, to hear some pre-Idol music from a few of last night’s Chicago contestants, check out this post.

ETA: This is funny. Via Vote For the Worst, A Chicago reporter caught scenes of supposed Chicago natives swearing in last night’s episode…except there were palm trees in the background! Oops…

  1. The “behind the scenes” was interesting, if not revealing anything really new. But who could tell me when the pimp background stories are filmed? Between the producers’ cut and the televised judging?

I don’t know, either. It’d make sense, though, because they’re not going to bank on a contestant with that kind of coverage before the producers have the sense to evaluate them, and yet I’m inclined to imagine from the shots that are taken of the not-so-successful auditions would probably have to occur before the televised judging panel. Plus, they’d need the time to go back to the homes of said contestants with cameras, which seems to happen sometimes.

  2. Actually his name is Keith Semple and he won Popstars in the UK (2002 I think) and went on to sing with One True Voice. He is now the lead singer with 7th Heaven in Chicago. I’m sorry he did not advance.

  3. That was interesting reading of Michael Ryan’s experience. He really took us through the whole process.

  4. don’t be fooled by chris golightly..he may seem like the innocent orphan that wants you to feel sorry for him for your votes..truth is he just wants to get ahead in life using his story for your sympathy..i should know he has done that trick on me and he got me good..he may say he’s changed and is more truthful now but i don’t believe him..he is a very good liar and a con artist..for somebody who was an orphan he should appreciate what people do for him..but all he does is think about himself..he’s a hypocrite..he auditioned last year and lied his whole way through the auditions..but best of wishes if you want someone like him to be your american idol..
