American Idol 10 Top 11 – Motown Week – What Should the Idols Sing?

It’s Motown week, yet again, on Idol this week. Let’s see what Jimmy Iovine and his army of producers do to with the classic Motown catalog.

If the producers rearrange these songs, I’m just hoping they don’t lose their integrity. Some things are best left exactly the way they are.

What do you think the Idols should sing when they take the stage tomorrow night? Check out my list after the jump.

Scott McCreery – “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” – It’s going to be tough for Scotty this week, but if he can navigate Motown week, he’ll prove he’s more than just a one-note wonder.  This tune is in his vocal range.
Pia Toscano – “I Heard it Through the Grapevine” by Gladys Knight and the Pips –  Girlfriend needs to go upbeat this week! And I’m not talking disco.  This is a classic with some sass.
James Durbin –  “Higher Ground” by Stevie Wonder – Yeah, it’s kind of obvious, isn’t it?  Still, think James could make it work. The  Red Hot Chile Peppers covered it–so did Chris Daughtry who had no idea it was a Stevie Wonder song!
Casey Abrams –  “Let’s Get it On” by Marvin Gaye – another chance for Casey to show his SEXAY side.
Stefano Langone -“I Wish It Would Rain” by Temptations – No Stevie this week! And for God’s sake, if the production team suggests a drum track, just say “HELL to the NO”.  This Temps tune would allow Stefano to get all angsty and soulful.
Lauren Alaina – “Nowhere to Run” by Martha Reeves and the Vandellas – Somebody’s gotta sing Martha, and I think Lauren could handle it, if she gets the judges’ voices out of her head.
Paul McDonald – “Mercy Mercy Me” by Marvin Gaye – Paul wants to break out the guitar this week. He could on this tune. Actually, his old band tweeted that they covered a Motown tune, but did not reveal which one it was…
Thia Megia – “I Hear a Symphony” by the Supremes – She could use her big voice on this one. But I’m probably wasting my time suggesting–Thia will probably bust out  out some Michael Jackson, but
Jacob Lusk – “Sugar Pie Honey Bunch” by the Four Tops –  Let’s see Jacob put his ole Lusky Stank on this classic.  The 4 tops are so underrated.
Naima Adedapo – “Living For The City” by Stevie Wonder – I don’t think a woman has ever sung this on Idol.  (eta: Siobhan Magnus did in Hollywood)  Naima could change it up a bit and really make it her own.
Haley Reinhart – “You Really Got a Hold On Me” by Smokey Robinson – This tune would give Haley the chance to reveal that bluesy side Steven Tyler was talking about last week.
