Randy, Paula Simon and….Jewel?

According to St. Paul Pioneer Press, approximately 100 would-be Idols auditioned in front of Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell Tuesday as the Minneapolis Convention Center hosted the city's third round auditions.  Pop singer-songwriter, Jewel, was on hand as a guest judge. Season 4 featured guest judges in the audition rounds (Gene Simmons, Mark McGrath, LL Cool J, Kenny Loggins and Brandy).  However, Season 5 did away with them entirely. 

Quotes from the Judges:

Abdul said she was not impressed with many of the song choices contestants made Tuesday and noted one woman who belted out “If I Were King of the Forest”. “She was a mean lion, ” Abdul said.

“I could see a couple of girls making it to the top 12, ” said Cowell.

“It's been a very interesting day, ” Jackson said.

Preliminary auditions finish up in Seattle, Washington on Tuesday September 19
