Country Music Awards

CONGRATULATIONS CARRIE UNDERWOOD! She won TWO awards tonight:  The Horizon Award, which is the best “newcomer” and was presented to her by Kellie Pickler.  And in a bit of a stunner, she beat out more established stars like Faith Hill and Martina McBride for Female Vocalist of the Year.  Way to go!

Update:  According to some peeps in comments, Anthony Federov is Carrie Underwood’s date tonight.  Also,  Carrie is wearing an $850, 000 dress–the straps are encrusted with tiny diamonds.  The dress will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to charity.

The CMA’s are TONIGHT.  They start at 8/7c pm on ABC.  Carrie Underwood is nominated for 4 awards–Female Vocalist of the Year, Horizon Award, Single of the Year (“Jesus Take the Wheel”) and Music Video of the Year (“Jesus Take the Wheel”).  Also, the songwriters of “Jesus Take the Wheel”, Hillary Lindsey, Brett James and Gordie Sampson are up for Song of the Year.

Carrie’s album “Some Hearts” peaked on the Billboard 200 chart at #2 and has stayed there for 50 straight weeks.  It has sold more than 3 million copies.  “Jesus Take the Wheel” was #1 on the country charts for six weeks.  With that kind of success, she’s got to come away with something.

Also on hand at the CMA’s–Kellie Pickler who is slated to present an award.  She’s currently in the midst of promoting her new album “Small Town Girl”–which could be this week’s #1 country album on the charts.  If you tune into CMT prior to the show at 7/6c, you can see Kellie do her Kellie thang on the Red Carpet as celebrities and guests arrive for the ceremony.
