Potential winner’s singles:

Jahmene Douglas – Let It Be (The Beatles)

http://youtu.be/kEogJacjLTE

Christopher Maloney – The Reason (Hoobastank)

James Arthur – Impossible (Shontelle)

TOP 2 finalists will perform their songs on Sunday night.

Uh Uh. I’m already dreading judges’ comments tonight and tomorrow. I’m not really a fan of the three finalists, but I think Jahmene at least has a chance to have good winner’s single.

We are now live from Manchester. Watching back the footage from auditions, I can’t believe these three dudes made it to the Final.

My God, how much money did they spend on Dermot’s intro video? Entrance of the 4 judges is next and it’s LOUD. Nicole Scherzinger looks fantastic in red.

Guest performers this weekend: Kylie Minogue, One Direction, Rihanna, Kelly Clarkson, Emeli Sande, Rita Ora, Only Boys Aloud

Group number:
Rylan opens group number with Gangnam Style. Union J sing “Payphone”. Lucy Spraggan leads some others with “Titanium”. Kye and Ella sing Spectrum (Say My Name). James, Jahmene and Chris end the number with “Read All About It”.

Lines are now open. Can we vote for Rylan?

One Direction’s Talk Talk commercial opens the commercial break.

1. Jahmene Douglas – “Move On Up” by Curtis Mayfield

We get to see some footage from Jahmene’s homecoming. He stops at ASDA, where he used to work. Next, church.
It’s a big production number, with dancers and Big Ben on stage. His singing seems great, I just don’t think this is the best song choice for the final.
Louis: You are in the final, you’ve got the talent. You’ve got so much soul. I hope people vote for you.
Tulisa: I remember your first audition .. and your bootcamp audition, and now you are here on stage, confident, I wish you the best of luck.
Gary: Well done, Jahmene.
Nicole: That’s the way to open up the finals, blazing.

Caroline Flack is with Jahmene’s family and friends.

2. Christopher Maloney – “What A Feeling” by Irene Cara

Footage from Chris’ homecoming. Standard. Wow, so many old ladies.

Yes, Chris is singing “What a Feeling”. He also has dancers on stage. The performance is extra mega karaoke, as always.
Nicole: Wow Christopher. You know what, it’s not easy what you did up there, enjoy.
Louis: You are in the final, everyone in Liverpool is cheering you on… You are not going back to Liverpool …
Tulisa: This must be an amazing moment for you…
Gary: I got it wrong, I didn’t have you in my final three, you are here because people voted for you…

The judges are spewing so much nonsense tonight.

Caroline is now in Christopher’s camp.

3. James Arthur – “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone

James’ homecoming starts in a pub and continues in his old bedsit. James breaks down in tears.

James enters the studio with some hot male dancers. The entrance takes a while. The performance sounds like a standard James performance with dubstep arrangement. He has a band and dancers on stage.
Louis: That was incredible. The idea is to find someone unique with a great talent, I want you in the final tomorrow night.
Tulisa: You are everything this competition is about in 2012. I want American kids say:”Wow, have you heard that guy James Arthur”.
Gary: I thoroughly enjoy every single performance you do. That was for sure your best performance to date by far.
Nicole: You are a fighter, super soldier …

Caroline speaks to James Arthur’s camp.

Time for a recap of the season … with American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson singing “Breakaway”.

Time for DUETS. Dermot sits in Nicole’s seat.

1. Jahmene Douglas & Nicole Scherzinger – “Greatest Love of All” by Whitney Houston

WOW. Nicole starts badly… Oh, her microphone isn’t working. She and Jahmene now have to share his mike. They also have a choir. Great moment.
Dermot: “Greatest show on the TV and they can only afford one mike.” LOL.

2. Christopher Maloney & Gary Barlow – “Rule The World” by Take That

Gary is again playing the piano. This is vocally powerful, but I think the one before had more charm? The song is a huge crowd pleaser.

3. James Arthur & Nicole Scherzinger – “Make You Feel My Love” by Bob Dylan

James and Nicole sit on stools. This number doesn’t go without some dubstep and choir either.

Time for a recap.

Rita Ora sings “R.I.P.” and “How We Do (Party)”. This is Rita’s second X Factor performance this season. She was also a guest judge this year.

5 minute warning. Kylie Minogue performs after a break.

The vote is now frozen.

Kylie Minogue performs “Can’t Get You Out of My Head”. Kylie recorded a whole album of orchestral version of her hits.

Results after the break.

TOP 2:
Jahmene Douglas
James Arthur

Contestant leaving the competition in 3rd place is: Christopher Maloney

HALLELUJAH!

Winning mentor of X Factor 2012: Nicole Scherzinger

The phone lines are open again.

I’m still bummed that Union J is gone.

  • Oldhag

It is so rude that they boo Christopher, cripes he’s probably going to be the winner.  At this point, I think it would be great if he was.  Bet we never see a people’s wildcard again LOL.

  • Klaine

Thanks…the feed I found had a big ad in the middle.  I havent watched this season at all but figured Id tune into the finale…Guess its all guys from what I saw.  But just watching a minute, I see how great an XF host Dermot is.  Even his walking across the stage didnt look forced like Khloe & Mario – walk 10 steps from point 1 to point 2 and then speak!….I know they dont want to mess with the UK show by replacing Dermot but hed be a great US host – he wouldnt need a co-host…Season 3 of the US show needs major reworks again – I keep feeling like Simon has lost his golden touch – I wouldnt mind him off the show.  Read an interview where he admitted the reason for the rankings was so that people could see Emblem 3 was lower and it would encourage the tweens to vote.  Thats another thing not discussed but is wrong with the XF _ hes a coach/mentor with something at stake in the results yet is a producer whose making decisions and apparently from what he said, knew the results…because he also said they showed the results this week because Tate had won and theyw anted to show that there are changes week to week.   He couldnt have made that decision if he didnt know the results…Thats whats fishy and makes you wonder its nosurprise he has 2 groups left out of 4.  (and all these articles that said Paula lost all her acts at this point is not how I remember it – I thought she lost her acts much earlier.  Already talks about firing Demi but she did much better than Britney…and surprising SImon is saying neither Demi or Britney are scheduled to perform on the finale.

    The nan! Gotta love her!

According to digital spy, Simon Cowell blames Gary for the poor ratings, which is bull, but this statement from him is both true and sad:

Cowell is now reportedly planning on replacing 41-year-old Barlow for next year’s series after deciding that he takes his judging role “too seriously”.

IMO, this is one of the reasons why the ratings are falling, the show has always been seen as a joke, so people aren’t going to be loyal to it.  It’s true that Gary seems like the type of person who shouldn’t be taking part in this type of show, and his presence put the spotlight on some of the nasty things that go on during a season.

  • Oldhag

The first season Simon took winning seriously too and made sure that Steve Brookstein, his act, won.  But Simon learned that being the winning mentor wasn’t as important as getting a decent act that could actually sell records.

I really believe that had Chris been anyone else’s act he would have been gone because Barlow would have cut him down saying that he was boring and dated, and as the “credible” and most influential judge, people would have listened to him.  Chris is still on in part because they are listening to Gary Barlow, who has not said one negative word about Christopher, now.  Barlow also made comments in a way that assured Union J was hitting the road last week.

It’s not Gary Barlow’s fault alone that the ratings are down, but yeah, some of the blame does lie in his court.  He should have let Christopher die a peaceful death.

  • Oldhag

Gee, think they want James to win, or what?

  • Oldhag

    Oops – broken mike.

  • wordnerdarchie

Yes, broken mic…. they really DO want James to win. ;)

  • elliegrll

But Simon learned that being the winning mentor wasn’t as important as getting a decent act that could actually sell records.

It’s hard to buy into this theory, since the X Factor hasn’t produced a lot of successful acts.  I think that just like most television producers Simon knows that ratings are more important than how many records someone sells.  Until One Direction Simon’s most profitable act was Il Divo, they aren’t exactly mainstream.

The talk surrounding the prospect of Christopher winning hasn’t made a lot of sense, considering that most of the winners have been dropped, and the numbers for the ones who haven’t been aren’t that spectacular.

I also don’t think that Gary has been over hyping Chris.  Part of the problem with the show is that everything that comes out of the judges’ mouths is garbage.  They are all going to lie to their contestants, and everybody else’s, so who would every take them seriously?

  • http://asherlev1.livejournal.com/ asherlev1

I feel so bad for Jahmene DDD:

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

Good duet, despite the mic’s problem. Nicole is a great singer. Her skills were completely underrated because of PCD.

  • Oldhag

Until One Direction Simon’s most profitable act was Il Divo, they aren’t exactly mainstream.

All the following acts were prior to One Direction and have been quite profitable for Simon, probably more than Il Divo.

    Leona Lewis
    Alexandria Burke
    Olly Murs
    Susan Boyle
    Jackie Evancho
    Labrinth

  • Mateja Praznik

Il Divo sold 26 million albums worldwide, according to Wikipedia.

  • elliegrll

A year ago Simon said that his most profitable act has been Il Divo.  Besides the albums that they’ve sold, they have made a lot of money from touring, which Simon has gotten a cut from.   Billboard had an article a few years ago about how the bulk of the money that they’ve made has come from touring.

  • Oldhag

Wow.  Did not know that.  I barely remember them from some appearance, I want to say it was on American Idol, but I could be wrong.  Were they big outside of the US?

  • Oldhag

It’s wrong of me to be rooting for Christopher, just to stick it to Simon, isn’t it?

  • http://twitter.com/facenfield David Facenfield

think I just heard Simon Cowell’s HUGE sigh of relief ;-P

  • http://twitter.com/facenfield David Facenfield

I have a feeling that tomorrow night Jahmene will get bused… based on tonight’s show TPTB really really want James to win…

  • Klaine

Olly & Caroline have more talent and chemistry in their little finger than Mario & Khloe.  I wish theyd import them to the US if not Dermot.  Surely, the XFUSA program is more important than the XtraFactor…They prob wouldnt want 2 unknown Brits…But Olly doesnt seem to have that bad an accent and he has released music in the US and is good.  But watching tonights episode again Im just so impressed with Dermot – hes smooth, doesnt seem like hes reading, interacts well with judges and contestants and is quick on his feet and spontaneous.  Congrats to Nicole too – Simon fired her but shes won XFUK in her first season and came in 2nd in the US show…not bad.. (not that I believe the mentors necessarily affect the votes so much unless they themselves are super popular with viewers)…I still cant get over that UK viewers pay 35p for each call.  I wouldnt spend a penny to vote on a stupid reality show unless I was related to the person

  • http://twitter.com/MissGolightly22 No Thanks

Sounds like Simon got the Top 2 he wanted.  He would have only gone through the motions with Maloney anyways.  Rushed out a low budget album of covers by mothers day and then pretend he doesn’t exist.  I’m sure some other label out for a quick buck will pick him up though.

  • Klaine

LOL- he still has the possibility of a country star in his 30s winning the US show.  I havent watched this season but I liked Jahmain(? even though the other guy is predicted to easily win in polls

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

I knew instantaneous votes would destroy Maloney. The nans take a while to vote.

  • Klaine

Simon doesnt need any more money- Its amazing how for the rich its never enough

  • Klaine

JUst that Olly, Alexandra, and others werent international stars …Susan Boyle has sold tons of albums…Jackie has too but she seems to have not had the steam to go on but she might make a comeback when shes older.  I have no idea who Labrinth is.  Personally I liked Alexandrias first album – not a fan of the single Elephant and not sure if she released a whole other album.  I actually am a fan of Ollys music and wish he got a better US push

  • Klaine

They adjusted great.  I didnt even realize the mic was broken at first.  Lucky Nicole handled it well or she would have been crucified in the press for wanting to make herself look good at the expense of her contestant.  But its live tv and thats why people watch…They didnt make it a trainwreck and I thought they looked and sounded great together…he does seem short though

  • Klaine

Yes they are primarily TV shows – especially as far as the networks are concerned…The album sales are a bonus and xtra money for Simon – The networks dont see a penny of that.  Its slightly important to make the show legit – but look at VoiceUS and not a hit there yet and people are still watching.  Thats one reason sometimes runners up are signed and get the bigger push …Have to think of these as separate things – The producers who make a TV show – the network broadcasts it and cares only about ratings – and the music company that signs the artists and makes an album – also the agents, managers, stylists,  fees etc

  • Klaine

I dont see anything wrong with Gary when I watched and Id think hed be popular with the public.  The articles I read in the Brit tabloids said that Louis and Tulisa were the least popular judges.  Its also a show that is old…BTW did Little Mix put out an album or has it just been a few singles

  • mtthew

their album came out a few weeks ago i think

  • mtthew

    YAS YAS YASSSSSSSSSSS

i am so glad that baloney is not in the final. i’m rooting for james at this point, but i’m still really bummed that ella isn’t in the finals.

  • http://twitter.com/facenfield David Facenfield

Perhaps Il Divo are Le Cowell’s most successful act, but below article demonstrates that in UK the X Factor has produced some big debut sellers, singles and albums… all of which is £££ in the bank for Simon.

    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/s103/the-x-factor/news/a443928/x-factor-top-ten-biggest-selling-debut-singles-albums-revealed.html

  • Mateja Praznik

And that’s just debut albums and singles. That’s why there is no “Bleeding Love” on singles list, even though it was a monster.

  • girlygirltoo

Are either of these 2 finalists supposed to have a decent shot at actually being successful in the UK music world?

  • shell29

I’m glad Chris finished third because the grief the poor guy would have received had he won would have been awful (and Simon made it clear he wasn’t going to do anything with him anyway).

  • http://twitter.com/alencarthiago Thiago Alencar

i fear James will be nothing but a Matt Cardle. A couple of successful singles, a poor-selling album and a drop next year. Jahmene is completely unpredictable.

  • http://twitter.com/alencarthiago Thiago Alencar

Simon was lucky Little Mix won last year. Another bad selling winner would be a huge hit in the show, even more with this shitty season. 3 great singles (2 no.1 and a no.3 in a week against 1D and Bruno Mars is quite an accomplishment.) and an album that debuted right behind 1D and Rihanna is great. The show needs to reform itself. The contestants need to be chosen in a better way, Tulisa and Gary need to go ASAP. Nicole seems to have found her groove in the uk and Louis will be gone when Randy leaves AI (unfortunately, never).

  • elliegrll

Just like with AI alums most of the XF winners have sold a lot of copies of their debut singles and albums, but the fact is that just like many of the idol alums, their success didn’t go beyond that.  They were given a boost from being on the XF, but then faded.  The XF does not have this history of producing successful acts, even though that has been the repeated meme that people have used to justify why Chris shouldn’t win.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NDYOWBIIPZU6PBRHGOPT2ZZJXQ sweetmm

I’m gutted that Christopher did not go through; after such a hard time he had on the XF he should go through just to give a bitch slap to the bullies!!!  At least one of my fav ended up in the XF; here’s hoping that the win goes to Jahmene.  Since Simon will also sign up James; there will be no loser tomorrow.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NDYOWBIIPZU6PBRHGOPT2ZZJXQ sweetmm

My fav performance was the Jahmene/Nicole; she can sing!!!  The mic screw up made the duet better as the interaction came across as genuine, personal and warm.  It made Jahmene less robatic :)

  • Axxxel

Funny to see Jahmene and Nicole’s faces just after their duet and the microphone incident… more like a relief that it all ended well mixed with a WTF, what just happened with the mic !??? things could have gone very wrong but thumbs up to both of them to handle the situation well..

And like sweetmm said, it made the duet even more feel real to me.

  • springboard2

Thank you for the videos, Mateja.
I only watch the performance videos now, and only the performances. 6 songs, 12 mns.

I thought that Jahmene was better than usual this week. He may win. It depends who bothers voting.

  • Amber Alk

Jahmene/Nicole was one of my favorite duets in X Factor history. Their voices blended so well together and the chemistry between them was great. James duet with Nicole was good also but I much preferred his feeling good performance.

  • Whatiswrongwithus

GO JAMES <3 He SO wants to win so badly, can see it on his face LOL.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/5HGXDY5SA4QJRME7OQJXRJYE4M James M.

Oh my God Rylan’s super bad pronunciation of “Gangnam style” was offputting lol.

  • http://www.facebook.com/bill.mitchell.3954546 Bill Mitchell

James Arthur only one remotely marketable.  Too bad he is so when cousins marry fugly.  Jahs voice.is so 1930 to me.

missing Union J too.  Funny how boy bands never win these but then go on to sell a bazillion records.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

Which is stupid because of what happened to the last “credible musician” that won last time. Will they actually spend time marketing James, or throw all their efforts to Ella Henderson or Union J? Like they decided that Rebecca and Matt being top two didn’t happen while shoving Cher Lloyd and One Direction into everyone’s faces?

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

Good to hear Little Mix is doing well. Happy for them.

  • http://twitter.com/facenfield David Facenfield

I agree that most reality/talent shows have much of a history of finding artists that sell beyond 1st or 2nd albums… but I think that is generally reflective of the industry in general…  that’s why the term ‘sophomore slump’ is such a well known part of the vernacular…

but the X Factors has  produced several artists that have had 3 or more successful albums here in the UK… Olly Murs, JLS, G4, Leona…

which over it’s 8 years is as probably as much (if not more) AI has produced… that I am aware of only Carrie, Kelly, and maybe Clay & Daughtry could be said to have had 3 or more successful albums.

even successful pop acts, which is what  the X Factor is trying to find, will have a shelf life of maybe 5 years, with only a few maintaining massive success beyond that… look how someone as successful as Xtina has done with her last few album releases…

  • elliegrll

You left out Fantasia and Mandissa, and if we are going to include some of the XF people that you mentioned, then we’d have to include Kellie and some of the alums who entered niche genres.

I think that this is getting away from the point that I was making, which is that most of the winners haven’t sold well, so the story that Chris winning was going to ruin the show doesn’t make any sense.

  • calliebeckett

So the odds of getting another Kelly Clarkson who is still “relevant” 10 years later is below zero then…

  • http://twitter.com/facenfield David Facenfield

As I understood it, I think the point about Chris ruining the show was less about sales as about perceived credibility… he would be the least ‘pop star’ winner that there has been on UK X Factor… by comparison he would make Joe McEldery look like Justin Timberlake

  • Patrick Sean Durante

Oh heck. Thanks, Britain for not letting Maloney into last Sunday’s finale. He would have murdered Hoobastank’s song live, and it would be the single most horrible thing in television this year.
