Some fans who were hanging outside the arena in Portland were invited in to watch dress rehearsal for tonight’s debut American Idols Live concert. There are various twitters (here and here) and an account on Idol Forums HERE.   Here’s a list of spoilers I cobbled together:

  • Michael Sarver: “I’m in Love with a Girl” by Gavin Degraw, “Closer” by Neyo
  • Megan Joy: “Put Your Records On” by Corrine Baily Rae and “Tears Dry on Their Own” by Amy Winehouse
  • Scott MacIntyre: “Bend and Break” by Keane and “A Thousand Miles” by Vanessa Carlton
  • Lil Rounds: “Be Without You” by Mary J Blige, “No One” by Alicia Keys, “Single Ladies” by Beyonce
  • Anoop Desai:”Always on My Mind” by Willie Nelson, “Mad” by Ne-Yo, “My Prerogative” by Bobby Brown
  • Matt Giraud: “Hard to Handle” by the Black Crowes “Georgia” “You Found Me” by the Fray
  • Group Medley: Megan and Lil sing “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” Matt and Scott on duel pianos for “Tell Her About It” by Billy Joel, Michael sings “Suspicious Minds” by Elvis Presley,   Anoop begins singing Madcon’s “Beggin”, but it’s in the style of the original 1967 4 Seasons version–Matt, Scott and Michael join in. Lil sings the Madcon rap, and Megan joins her.
  • Allison Iraheta: “So What” by Pink “Cry Baby” by Janis Joplin, “Barracuda” by Heart
  • Danny Gokey: “P.Y.T.” by Michael Jackson, “Maria Maria” by Santana, “What Hurts the Most” by Rascal Flatts, “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts.
  • Adam Lambert: “Whole Lotta Love” by Led Zepplin “Starlight” by Muse “Mad World” by Tears for Fears/Gary Jules “Slow Ride” by Foghat w/ Allison, Bowie Medley: “Life on Mars”, “Fame”, “Let’s Dance”
  • Kris Allen: “Heartless” by Kanye West, “No Boundaries”, “Bright Lights” by Matchbox 20,   “Ain’t No Sunshine” by Bill Withers   and “Hey Jude” by The Beatles (the Idols join Kris for the “na nas”)
  • “Don’t Stop Believing” The Top 10 – Encore

Some notes:

Kris played acoustic guitar on “Heartless” and “No Boundaries”, piano on “Sunshine” and electric guitar on “Hey Jude”

Megan Joy was wearing “A pink heels and a tight neon pink mini-dress that kept riding up and showing her spankies”

Anoop Desai puts on a really dorky pair of black and blue rimmed glasses in the middle of his set.

“A lot of the Idols did a lot of shirt unbuttoning and shirt removing…Lil took off a long blinged-out trench coat to reveal a form-fitting pantsuit before Single Ladies, Anoop took off his jacket before My Prerogative, Danny took off his coat before Maria Maria and then unbuttoned his shirt several times (he was sweating like crazy, lol), Adam took off his AMAZING SkinGraft jacket before the Bowie Medley, for which he was only wearing a black tank top”

  • girlygirl

This may be my favorite line from the Idol Forums report:

“Oh and several of the Idols did a lot of shirt-unbuttoning and shirt removing.”

Ok, who did that? Hoping it was Adam and Kris!!!!!! (Hey, a girl can dream, right?)

Oh, and I liked this part, too…

“And I don’t think I mentioned before that Anoop did a lot of sexy dancing. Like, GYRATING. It was kinda dorky but kinda hot at the same time. And he put on this really dorky pair of black and blue rimmed glasses in the middle of his set. ”

    Hahaha…awww…

Seriously, sounds like rehearsal went really well. I’m excited about the set lists — some really cool songs in there.

  • competitivebynature

Ugh why does Danny get FOUR songs? Syesha only got three last year. That’s a lot Gokey to sit through.

  • sayxwhat

Gross. Why does Danny have to do two Rascal Flats songs in a row? But, whatever. I’m sure he’ll sound better live than how he sounded on Idol.

  • Allison

I gotta love “Bend & Break” being included, even though I do not like Scott.

  • LisaE

girlygirl, according to the IDF post, it’s Danny who does the unbuttoning. ;P And there is no shirt removing, but Adam, Lil, Danny and Anoop take off their jackets.

  • ewan

“girlygirl, according to the IDF post, it’s Danny who does the unbuttoning.

Dear God! Now I have to take a bathroom break when Danny is on ~!

  • BestAI

They said Adam was wearing a tank top under his jacket. I heard lots of dancing by several. So far, two people at rehearsals said Danny’s set was boring even tho his singing was good. Seems the bottom six have a lot of stage time (their solos and three group numbers).

  • Vada

Did Kris play piano or electric guitar on Bright Lights? Or maybe 1/2 and 1/2?
My choice would be piano for the first half and electric guitar for the loud half.

  • girlygirl

Danny? Yikes…must remember to keep my eyes shut during his set when I go to the tour date at Staples!!!!

  • hwc

Eight seasons of Idol wannabees and it has to be Donny Gorkey who unbuttons the shirt. Where’s Antonella Barba these days?

Wow, Donny going all Latin with a Santana song orginally sung by a rapper. There could be a stampede for the restrooms. Be careful, out there!

  • Squirrely

Ugh why does Danny get FOUR songs? Syesha only got three last year. That’s a lot Gokey to sit through.

I think it’s because they don’t seem to be doing a lot of group numbers. This a very eclectic group voice wise so it seems, they are doing more solos than group tunes on this tour.

ETA: By ‘they’ I mean the top four.

  • Jx223

I am glad that Anoop is doing some Ne-Yo and “Always on My Mind”. I think that Danny doing “Maria, Maria” is going to be interesting. I am interested in seeing performances, by Danny, Anoop, and Matt. I hope that those three guys do very well.

  • HannaB4

They did mostly solos last year and the Bottom 8 only got 3 songs apiece. So technically Danny gets as many as Adam because one of Adam’s is a duet. I did hear, though, that Adam’s Bowie medley is 5 minutes long.
I don’t see how they perform in those heavy leather jackets, under the light, with all that heat emanating from the audience. ;)

  • Vada

I am very glad that there are fewer group numbers. I have never been a fan of those.

  • Matt

I believe there was only one group number last year. Therefore, there are more group numbers this year.

  • washpd

Just to be clear, the order of Kris’s set was:

Heartless (acoustic), No Boundaries (acoustic), Aint No Sunshine (piano), Bright Lights (unknown instrumentation), Hey Jude.

Also, the other Idols all come out together to join Kris on Hey Jude as opposed to them coming out one by one or some such thing.

And apparently there were bubbles at the end during Don’t Stop Believin’. Yeah, I don’t know.

  • nuttin2lose

so do they have to wear the same clothes over and over 4 the 50 cities?. or can they change it up?. i wonder what lil’s second song is. was it not memorable. ?. it all sounds interesting. i wldn’t have guessed sarver doing neyo. more like some twang country songs like the original ring of fire or hoots shooting buggy or whatever it was adam mentioned on idolatry lol.

  • Ellie2

I don’t see how they perform in those heavy leather jackets, under the light, with all that heat emanating from the audience. ;)

I’m thinking they must give “How to Stay Sweat-Free in Leather” lessons on Planet Fierce. Has anyone else noticed that while Adam was always wearing those leather jackets and tight pants on AI, he was never sweating at the end of his songs? Another one of his special talents….

  • Renina

Matt sounds like his set is gonna Rock!! From what I hear his HTH will be more Rock-ish, while Georgia and YFM will be edgy soul. Really can’t wait to hear more of his set, I think Matt will be a huge surprise and pleasure this summer, which could mean good things for him as far as gaining more Attention.

Also LOVE Anoop. I’m glad that he chose a Neyo song, in particular Mad is one of my favs from neyo and comments from those who saw the rehearsal say that Anoop’s vocals were unbelievable so yay!!

Allison’s set has me REALLY excited! Looking froward to hearing Barracuda by heart from her.

And Megan I think will be really good in her set, I think she has more to offer, vocally, than what she did on the show, so this may be a good summer for her as well. Lil doing single ladies should be fun. She did say that her set will get folks up and dancing so should be a lot of fun from her.

Kris and Adam will do ok. Scott will be break time for me. Danny, from what I hear, will be pretty sappy, but if he is taking off his shirt could get interesting.

    Am I missing anyone??

  • Sassycatz

Actually it sounds like there are *more* group numbers this year, if you count duets as group numbers too.

Last year there were just two group numbers. The first involving only the bottom six after they all had performed their individual sets. And a final group number to wrap up the show, which included all ten.

It seems, this year, that the bottom three get cheated out of a solo song, so I guess the group numbers help to fill that void.

  • BestAI

From some who have been observing Adam and Kris at rehearsals, they seem to be very, very tight. I think it is a huge burden for the winner (Kris) and closing the show (except for group number), so I think Kris depends on Adam’s support.

I’m guessing that Kris is one of the few who doesn’t do any dancing. I’m glad, because he is not the dancing type (cute, but not too polished).

  • smartcookie

I think Ace Young ubuttoned his shirt at some point in the S5 concert.

I blame Danny for no Top 4 group number, because he just has no concept of harmony. And why does Matt get 3 1/2 (like Allison) plus extra group numbers she doesn’t get? I already knew that if Adam got a medley instead of just a 4th song, they would make it last an hour and a half. Gotta make sure the spotlight never wavers off TCO.

Wayyyy too much of 10, 9, 8, 7, 5 and 3 to suit me. I’m kinda hoping Sarver and Gokey both get sick and they give Allison, Anoop and Kris more songs to take up the slack. Maybe Kris could do a Remember the Time/Man in the Mirror salute to Michael Jackson.

  • BestAI

I know I’m nitpicking here, but it seems Matt has quite a bit more stage time than Allison. He has three solos, a duet with Scott, and three group numbers. Allison has three solos, one duet, and one group number.

  • BeckyMD

I’m thinking they must give ‘How to Stay Sweat-Free in Leather’ lessons on Planet Fierce. Has anyone else noticed that while Adam was always wearing those leather jackets and tight pants on AI, he was never sweating at the end of his songs? Another one of his special talents’ ¦.

I noticed that too. That’s an amazing talent, which I wish Adam didn’t have — so that he would “unbuttoned his shirt several times” like the other idol does.

  • Mary102

Ok is it bad when all i notice is:

Adam wearing only a black tank top for Bowie Medley (I assume he was also wearing pants — but still, HOTNESS!)

Otherwise, Sarver doing Closer should be, um, interesting (I LOVE that song, but with him singing it, hmm)

Single Ladies is AWESOME for Lil (another crowd-pleaser!)

Too bad Allison is doing So What (not as fond of that Pink song for her). I would have preferred a different Pink song.

    Otherwise, looking good :-)

  • Squirrely

I believe there was only one group number last year. Therefore, there are more group numbers this year.

I guess that theory is shot. I was basing it on season 5, the only other one I’ve been too and from what someone posted about Jordin Sparks season.

  • flicker

    Wayyyy too much of 10, 9, 8, 7, 5 and 3 to suit me.

Those are the ones I’m looking forward to the most. :) (except for Danny)

I know I’m nitpicking here, but it seems Matt has quite a bit more stage time than Allison. He has three solos, a duet with Scott, and three group numbers. Allison has three solos, one duet, and one group number.

Sounds like he only has parts of 2 group numbers more than Allison. They usually only have a line or two in those. Maybe they are trying to make up to Matt and Scott for cutting their duet from the finale.

  • Mary102

I know I’m nitpicking here, but it seems Matt has quite a bit more stage time than Allison. He has three solos, a duet with Scott, and three group numbers. Allison has three solos, one duet, and one group number.

Interesting point – though, the group numbers often feature very small parts for each person (think of the show’s group numbers, where each would only have a line or two). So the number of full songs is more indicative of full time during the show.

But now that I think about it, yeah, that is a lot for Matt and the rest of the bottom 5 to sing – not fair for someone like Allison who should have more to sing.

  • Ellie2

Adam wearing only a black tank top for Bowie Medley

Someone else who was at rehearsal said it was a black t-shirt. Either way, I’m happy!

  • washpd

I already knew that if Adam got a medley instead of just a 4th song, they would make it last an hour and a half.

I hardly think 5 minutes equals an hour and a half. If Kris sings the full version of Hey Jude, that one will last a long time, too.

  • karenw

I think Ace Young ubuttoned his shirt at some point in the S5 concert.

Ace seductively removed his jacket during his performances of Father Figure … sometimes revealing just a vest top t-shirt .. and lots of muscles.

Danny is NO Ace Young …. some things are best left buttoned up …lol

  • maracaibo

Michael doing Closer? Ne yo? Good luck with that, I wonder why he chose that.

Can’t wait to see Matt’s set! Sounds awesome.
Also Adam and Allison are going to rock! Seems like a very cool show this year.

  • Tess

Isn’t it all about quality, not quantity. I think egg timers, and stop watches should just be left at home.

  • SybilTrelawney

    1. Why am I not surprised that Megan’s dress rides up to reveal her undies?

    2. I’m betting that Danny got an extra song because Allison was getting three songs plus a duet. Syesha had no duets last year. In fact, none of the top four had any duets, and they only did one of the group numbers (Please Don’t Stop The Music). So there seems to be more music this year.

    3. Four Danny songs Danny shirt unbuttoning = serious chance I will not go to the show. The only ones I would really want to see are Adam, Kris and Allison, but I am not sure I can sit through Danny smack in the middle of them.

ETA: squirrely, last year there were two group numbers: one after Brooke performed (she was No. 5) that did NOT include the top 4, and one after David Cook performed that included everyone.

  • BestAI

I hope Adam’s Bowie medley is five min as one person who was at rehearsal said. He has two short solos (studio version of MW is less than three min, and studio of WLL is just over three min).

  • snuffles

I think both Kris’ and Adam’s set will be equal in length. Judging by the set list we now know, I estimate each of them will have 20 minutes.

  • girlygirl

I remember Michael did a lot of R&B stuff early on in AI…in fact I think some of the judges even commented on that about him. So I’m not surprised he’s doing a Ne-Yo song

  • Mtlfan

I wonder what Kris is wearing

  • nad

I am really excited about Anoop’s set!!! “Mad” is a perfect choice for him!! From what I am hearing he is getting good reviews….sigh I have to wait till Sept 2 for the CHicago show…..

  • girlygirl

I wonder if Adam helped Kris pick out his outfit…as they joked about when they interviewed each other for those L.A. Times videos?

I would expect Kris to be in a tight shirt and ripped jeans…that seems to be what he’s comfortable in and it totally works for him! Maybe a leather jacket…

It would be fun if he glammed himself up and wore those feathers a couple of Adam’s fans gave him, though!

  • vanjess38

I don’t think we should underestimate any of these contestants at this point in time. there are going to be a lot of suprises from what I read. Their performances on the show were being judged and it is different when you’re being judged after a performance and when not. Moreover, some of these idols were made to feel as if they were in the competition just to make up the numbers and that there were only a couple of poeple in the competition. I can imagine how this can have effect on your performance in a competition like that. So for me, I’ll say lets just keep our fingers crossed till they perform live ( without biased judges), before we draw conclusions. Though I have my favourite, I wish all of them well becuse this is the begining of their long time careers.

  • washpd

I wonder what Kris is wearing

Well, the fan who was in rehearsal last night said he wore jeans and a light blue shirt.

  • Susan M.

As usual, Ellie2, LOL! Though I can definitely get into a little Adam sweat, that’s just another one of his genetic blessings (Planet Fierce must be good that way).

It’s the same thing with Obama; he’s a freak of nature in that he doesn’t sweat, unless he’s had Botox injections everywhere. I saw him at a town hall meeting in SoCal, in a HOT, stuffy, claustrophobic fair grounds shelter. Everyone in the audience was MELTING. He took off his suit jacket (something I would have NEVER done at that point) and was wearing a long-sleeved white shirt and didn’t have a drop on him. Never seen anything like it …

  • desiiiire

    Vada
Shifting instruments during one song is king of hard to do. I wish he’s on the electric guitar cuz’ that song has a great guitar solo.

  • LaurelG

I wonder what Kris is wearing

A plaid shirt with glitter and spikes. ;)

I am not looking forward to Single Ladies. Hate that song. Or Michael’s version of Closer. Ne-Yo? Really? Or Scott singing A Thousand Miles. Honestly, I never liked anything Michael or Scott sang. They’re my two least favorite singers. Bathroom break!

  • desiiiire

Danny Gokey’s set list shows exactly how confusing his genre is.
    PYT…kind of dance/r&b
    Maria Maria…Latin/rock
What Hurts the Most and My Wish…christian country.
God he really has no idea who he is as an artist.

  • girlygirl

This is totally OT, but this Wimbledon final between Roddick and Federer is crazy nuts…Federer up 12-11 in the 5th set!!!

Ok, now back to talking about AI…

  • Qcloud9

I don’t think we should underestimate any of these contestants at this point in time. there are going to be a lot of suprises from what I read. Well said, I totally agree. Good luck to all of them!

  • Q3

This may not be accurate but there was at least one twitter report that said Kirs’ instrumentation was Heartless (acoustic), No Boundaries (acoustic), Aint No Sunshine (piano), Bright Lights (piano), Hey Jude (electric guitar).

I know I’m nitpicking here, but it seems Matt has quite a bit more stage time than Allison. He has three solos, a duet with Scott, and three group numbers. Allison has three solos, one duet, and one group number.

I also really puzzled why Matt is getting so much time. Not nitpicking either, just an observation. By my count, he has mote stage time than even Kris, including a feature with Scott in the final number.

    Matt – 3 solos 1 duet 3 group numbers = 7 songs/3 solos
    Lil and Anoop – 3 solos 3 group numbers = 6 songs/3 solos
    Alison – 3 solos 1 duet 1 group number = 5 songs/3 solos
    Danny – 4 solos 1 group number = 5 songs/4 solos
    Adam – 4 solos 1 duet 1 group number = 6 songs/4 solos
    Kris – 5 solos 1 group number = 6 songs/5 solos (including NoBo)

  • Vada

Oh, I know changing instruments would be difficult. I don’t expect it to happen. I just think it would be awesome, if the arrangement put the emphasis on another instrument for a few seconds to make the change.

  • Victoria

    Michael Sarver… Ne-yo? Huh?

I wonder if Lil is going to do the Single Ladies dance. I think Anoop mentioned at some point she does a lot of dancing, so maybe she will.

It seems like the Idols did a good job of picking their songs (with the exception of Closer for Sarver). It should be a good show.

Danny unbuttoning his shirt = DO NOT WANT.

  • lola

About Adam being not sweaty….true, he always look fresh and smells good.

I guess Adam could initially have done 5 solo songs as he earlier announced and as planned. But knowing Adam being a selfless person (he is known for supporting other people’s career), he decided to do a duet with Allison instead of a solo number. BTW, one of the tweeters mentioned (I stayed up late following her) that you should see Adam’s moves…..sexy moves.

Kris do perform better with his guitar and the piano. His dancing is a bit off but he sure looks cute when he tries.

  • girlygirl

Here’s Richard Rushfield article (L.A. Times)…he’s not spilling any spoilers, but he sounds pretty impressed with how all the Idols sounded at rehearsal.

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/americanidoltracker/2009/07/idols-live-tour-descends-on-portland-or.html

  • LaurelG

I also really puzzled why Matt is getting so much time. Not nitpicking either, just an observation.

Well, he was kinda robbed during the Finale with only that small solo snippet in the Santana song. Maybe they’re trying to make it up to him. He did come in fifth.

  • snuffles

I hardly think Matt ever got “robbed” on the show. He was saved TWICE by shows producers.

  • chatbrat11

    TANK TOP!!!

  • Mary102

I hardly think 5 minutes equals an hour and a half. If Kris sings the full version of Hey Jude, that one will last a long time, too.

Hey, Jude varies from 4 min to 7 min on most of the versions that I’ve seen, and that extra length mainly comes from the riffs at the end on the “na-na’s” – just saying, because I don’t expect it to really be that long (not much longer than typical songs, at least) and if it is, it will not be wise to have it go on forever as it gets a little repetitive and boring after a certain point.

Kris having an outfit partly inspired by Adam would be HILARIOUS and awesome!

No offense to Danny, but I’m afraid his set will put everyone to sleep – before getting woken up again by Adam on WLL.

And I do think everyone will do really well – they always come across much better on tour than in the show, because there’s no pressure, no judges, no scrutiny, etc. Just having fun.

  • girlygirl

Kris tweets a question to us:

#i wonder if the USA is hungover from partying too much last night for her birthday#9 minutes ago from web

Maybe he’s like Southern women in that regard- you know the old saying:
Women don’t sweat, they perspire. And Southern women don’t perspire, they glow.

  • lulwut

I already knew that if Adam got a medley instead of just a 4th song, they would make it last an hour and a half.

In S6 Blake and Chris Richardson had a 15 min “cake” duet for 4 songs. Sadly for me, I don’t enjoy Adam’s screamy vocals. So the first notes of Heartless will be very refreshing and welcome.

  • Susan M.

Okay, here’s a panic of the day … My DirecTV has been breaking up a lot lately. Service call just left, replaced my DVR. I ALMOST let him take my old box, but the guy said, “Well you bought it.” When I went to program my new one, I realized ALL my “AMERICAN IDOLS” (at least the last six) are saved on the other receiver! Everything I have saved is on the other receiver. EEK!!

Working 100 percent or not, that baby is going in my bedroom …

  • Chipmunk

    Tank top!!!!

So I’m rifling through the comments…….I guess the stopwatches will be set to see who gets more or less than the next…….pathetic!

That IDF recap sounds like it will be cool fun,, so looking forward to the youtube vids from the tour! Wish I could attend, Portland as the first show is probably gonna be awesome for all of them

  • http://www.twitter.com/sarahruth3 Sarah

Wow, I’m going to need a LOT of alcohol to endure the first half of this show. Sarver singing one of my favorite Ne-Yo songs? Scott butchering Keane? Lil trying to mimic Beyonce? HELP!

Man, I love me some Allison & Kris, but if Adam wasn’t on this tour, I doubt I’d be going. At least it sounds like Matt, Anoop, & Megan also have pretty good sets. 6 out of 10 ain’t TOO bad I guess.

  • BestAI

Well, he was kinda robbed during the Finale with only that small solo snippet in the Santana song. Maybe they’re trying to make it up to him. He did come in fifth.

One show as opposed to fifty, big difference.

At least your bladder will have plenty of opportunities for relief.

So I’m rifling through the comments’ ¦’ ¦.I guess the stopwatches will be set to see who gets more or less than the next.

No worries. The stopwatches will be replaced by the applause-o-meter.

  • CindyM

As far as Matt goes, just seems the same as it did on the show. It always felt to me that he was featured in group numbers moreso than any other contestant. I really just can’t get on board with the notion that he finished “fifth”. To me, he was the 7th place finisher because that’s where the votes placed him. The judges put him 5th. And if we are going to go by where the judges would have placed people……

I’m with you Sarah, I’m excited to go to the show, but if Adam weren’t part of the tour, I wouldn’t be going. I like Kris and Allison well enough, but not enough to travel 5 1/2 hours to go to a concert. Only Adam inspires that much trouble..lol.

  • Mary102

I’m a little confused about all the duets/group numbers in the first half. Are they ending the first half on 2 group numbers? (Beggin’ and the motown medley) And then where does the Scott/Matt duet on piano fit in?

Yeah, with so many group numbers in the first half, it does seem like some of the top 4 are getting short-changed a bit. I don’t really need to hear some of the bottom 5-6 singing THAT much.

And it sounds like they already have pretty big (or at least even parts) on Don’t Stop Believing too. Seems like they should have either moved another group number to the end to let 1-4 sing it more, or given the four of them more in Don’t Stop.

  • Chipmunk

No worries. The stopwhatches will be replaced by the applause-o-meter.

    LOL! yep…can’t wait

FYI – Adam’s Twitter account has bee officially verified. It now has the verified logo in the top right hand corner.

  • maracaibo

I really can’t wait to see Matt and Adam.

Those two were always my favorites from the beginning.

  • leome

Those are good song choices, Michael, Megan and Scott only get 2 solos, that’s a plus!

Adam gets the same stage time as Kris, it’s not surprising.

  • lifeisgood

Gee – last year Syesha (3rd) and Jason (4th) had 3 songs and 1 group.

  • Renina

Where is all of this hate for Matt coming from???

Anyway, it doesn’t seem to me that he is getting more time than anyone else, in particular the runner-ups 10-5 seem to be featured a bit more, Which I am actually happy about as I am a huge fan of Matt, Anoop, and Megan who are all a part of this group.

I wish people would stop nitpicking on time so much. The tour seems more than fair, and like it will be one hell of a show, I am trying to enjoy the anticipation of a great show rather than complain.

*besides, to me, it seems like Adam/Kris are getting the most time of everyone, which is as it should be*

I ned pictures peeps!!!! Lots and lots of pictures!!!

  • dyg

Adam took off his AMAZING SkinGraft jacket before the Bowie Medley, for which he was only wearing a black tank top’

OMG, how am I missing this,

  • ppwars

Too bad Allison is doing So What (not as fond of that Pink song for her). I would have preferred a different Pink song.

This is the song I was really wishing for! Such a crowd pleaser, fun, and, so what, she’s a rock star!

    girlyg’

This is totally OT, but this Wimbledon final between Roddick and Federer is crazy nuts’ ¦Federer up 12-11 in the 5th set!!!

Last time I went OT to post a NCAA score, I was DELETED. Let’s see if mj is a tennis fan!

that is a lot for Matt and the rest of the bottom 5 to sing – not fair for someone like Allison who should have more to sing.

Maybe – but her set is incredible – perfect for my taste. To get that set, I would sacrifice a little stage time.
Removing clothes? Thank God Allison isn’t slated to remove any. Her exposure during the season increased weekly culminating with the titillating outfit donned for the Lauper duet. Had there been a post-Finale show, I guess leather pants woulda been all she needed – with boots, of course.

  • BestAI

Adam gets the same stage time as Kris, it’s not surprising.

Not really. He has four solos and a duet. Kris has five solos. Two of Adam’s solos are short ones, so his total solos are about 15 minutes. Kris’ solos total over 20 minutes.

  • maryct

Adam doesn’t sweat too much coz he doesn’t have a lot of body hair.

  • stargirl

I think Adam and Kris get the same stage time.figures since adam and kris both won and that it wasnt just Kris.As a Kris fan I think most of us are
use to Adam getting star treatment and kris getting medicore treatment.

  • Qcloud9

Wow, I’m going to need a LOT of alcohol to endure the first half of this show.

LOL. If you don’t pace yourself in the first half of the show, you might not remember the second half of the show! :drunk_tb:

No, my time estimates (based on how long the songs are on YouTube) put them both at about 18 – 20 minutes each.

P.S. Someone who attended the dress rehearsal estimated Adam’s Bowie medley lasting over 5 minutes. Probably the equivalent of Kris’ “Hey Jude” (before the rest of the Idols come out and join him).

  • GeminiDolly

How does this verifying accounts work. Can any “poser” contact Twitter and say Hey, im Adam Lambert verify my account???

Kris is also getting the star treatment. He is closing the show and gets one more solo than Adam. Adam has a huge following and Kris has tons of fans that adore him. From what I have read, I think both sets of fans should be pleased.

I loove that black crowes song for Matt! And the TANK TOP for Adam!! Excited for the fan coverage!!

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Kris won and got the winner treatment. The rest is up to him and his music.

  • xuziqueue

Adam has been magnanimous about Kris throughout the AI season. He did not ask for second place but has worn it like the proverbial glove. It is only natural (IMO) that the press is all over Adam because he is totally fierce. His generosity of spirit about AI is totally refreshing, reminiscent of many sports figures who own their arena but give emotional testimony to their opponents’ spirit and talent (towit Federer and McEnroe in WTA circuit).

  • BeckyMD

Adam doesn’t sweat too much coz he doesn’t have a lot of body hair.

I would like to know more details about this, with picture proof, pls.

  • girlygirl

On the IDF site, some fan got her pic taken with Kris last night. Kris is wearing a t-shirt that reads “In Los Angeles, the only difference between crazy and eccentric is a million dollars”

    LOL – so true!

  • jammasta

Michael Sarver – Umm, Ne-Yo? I admit I was the guy’s only fan, but I don’t think that song will suit him >_>.

Megan Joy – I actually kinda like this. I actually like her style, and Put Your Records On seems like a good choice. I kinda wanted to see her do Black Horse and the Cherry Tree, that seems like it would be more likely to keep the audience up. I love her and think she’s hot with her hair down and straight, so hopefully that happens.

Scott MacIntyre – Umm…. He so stole David Archuleta’s song. But other than that, I don’t know the other song. He seems like he’ll be okay.

Lil Rounds – LOL @ Single Ladies, but I think she has promise. I’ve always believed she has had promise, she just didn’t have much originality and she sucked at song choices on the show. I think those two songs will be good for her. Single Ladies is bound to be hilariously bad or hilariously good. Either of those would be great to me.

Anoop Desai – I used to like Ne-Yo, but I don’t anymore. Mad, however, is one of his better songs IMO. Always on my Mind and My Prerogative will be GREAT. Looking forward to ya man.

Matt Giraud – Umm…. I don’t think he should’ve picked You Found Me. He’s not much of a rocker type. At least Hard to Handle is pretty soulful, I think he can pull that one off. I thought he was doing Human Nature? But Georgia was good. I’m just not looking forward to You Found Me, but the guy was my second favorite after Kris, so it’ll be cool.

Allison Iraheta – So What is a good song for her IMO. Barracuda is my guilty pleasure song, I’m excited for that one (Though Alone might have been the better choice). With Cry Baby I bet she’s gonna say something about how she got eliminated with that song like Michael Johns said, and it’ll be funny. I’m looking forward to it.

Danny Gokey – P.Y.T. was his second best performance IMO (after his Top 5 song), that should be interesting. I’m not really looking forward to Maria Maria, it’s a really good song but I don’t think it’s his type. I don’t know Rascal Flatts. It won’t be terrible unless he unbuttons his shirt, the only one I’d even come close to wanting to see that for is Kris :P. He seems fit enough and I need the workout motivation.

Adam Lambert – Umm, for some reason, I find myself not looking forward to him. Mad World will be awesome, even though he did that one a lot, so I hope he does something slightly different. Whole Lotta Love…. I liked his performance, but I think he should’ve chosen something different, like Born to be Wild. David Bowie medley…. Meh, I don’t like either of those songs, and if he’s really wearing a black tank top I might cover my eyes. But I’m glad he and Allison are doing Slow Ride. They turned that seemingly lyrically lacking song into one hell of a performance. I don’t know. He always leaves me on the fence, since he’s not my type. But I just watched Whole Lotta Love again, it should be a good set.

Kris Allen – My main reason of going to the tour, to see my main man in action. I only wish he got a few more songs. But man I’m really gonna be screaming at his performances. He made No Boundaries great to listen to, Bright Lights is an awesome choice, Hey Jude is one of my favorite Beatles songs and I think it suits him, Heartless and Ain’t No Sunshine were two of his best performances, etc.

I wish I didn’t spoil myself. Aside from Michael and Scott, it might be a great concert. Megan and Lil show promise they had early on, Anoop just chose great songs for him, Matt is a bit iffy but I trust him to do it, Allison will rock, Danny will be decent (Hey, I actually am not one of his haters), Adam is iffy too but awesome anyway, and Kris is my all-time favorite Idol winner. The two group numbers will be interesting.

  • BeckyMD

Tank Top! Tank Top! Tank Top!!!!!

Kris is closing the show and has 5 solos. Sounds like winner’s treatment to me.

I think that did a pretty fair job of stacking the Top 4.

    Kris – 5 solos
    Adam – 4 solos 1 duet
    Danny – 4 solos
    Alison – 3 solos 1 duet

It also is pretty consistent with past years. And, as a Kradison fan, I get 12 solos and 1 duet!!! :clap_tb:

And a lot of time to wait in line for the ladies room!!!!

  • Susan M.

Since this is my first fantard year and the first time I’ve given more than a passing glance at the concert, I’m guessing this site and others will be deluged tomorrow with fan reports. Holy crap! My boss in on vacation next week and I’ll be doing double duty! How will I possibly keep up?

  • Ellie2

As usual, Ellie2, LOL! Though I can definitely get into a little Adam sweat, that’s just another one of his genetic blessings (Planet Fierce must be good that way).

Oh yeah, SusanM, don’t get me wrong…I’d be fine with a little Adam sweat. I’m just amazed that he’s not soaked clean through when he gets done performing in those jackets and pants of his. Frankly, I’m so gaga for the guy that he could be sweating buckets like some gross Saturday Night Live skit and I’d still think he was hotter than the sun.

  • BeckyMD

Shouldn’t we also count the time they’ll spend in talking, like who will be opening the show, how they introducing their sets and who will be closing the show?

  • Sunshinegirl

WTF???!!!! KRIS WON and he only gets FIVE songs while freakin’ Adam gets EIGHT?!!! WTF is going on here?!!! Dammit, I HATE this! Screw Adam and his stage whoring! Do you understand that KRIS WON and Adam LOST???!!!!

  • Q3

Where is all of this hate for Matt coming from???

Anyway, it doesn’t seem to me that he is getting more time than anyone else, in particular the runner-ups 10-5 seem to be featured a bit more,

I don’t actually see any “Matt hate” — just a question about why Matt has the most stage time — even more than Kris who won. And yes, 3 solos + 1 duets + 3 group numbers = Matt #1 on stage time for 7 songs vs. 6 for Kris.

JMHO I would rather get 1 more Kris number instead of the Scott-Matt duet. YMMV.

  • karenw

Adam doesn’t sweat too much coz he doesn’t have a lot of body hair

You obviously haven’t examined the Rolling Stone cover enough … lol

He obviously does a bit of chestage shaving now and again … I can’t comment on the hirsuitness of the other parts of his body though …

    ….. unfortunately

WTF???!!!! KRIS WON and he only gets FIVE songs while freakin’ Adam gets EIGHT?!!! WTF is going on here?!!! Dammit, I HATE this! Screw Adam and his stage whoring! Do you understand that KRIS WON and Adam LOST???!!!!

Wow. First of all, Adam doesn’t have 8 songs. He’s singing three solos, then a duet with Allison, and then his final song is a *medley* of 3 songs, which means it’s not 3 full songs. It’s snippets of three songs to make up one five minute “song.” So, four solos for Adam and one duet. Five solos for Kris.

  • lola

“Adam doesn’t sweat too much coz he doesn’t have a lot of body hair.”

    - You haven’t seen his chest hair and his arms??? I was actually surprised to see him hairy when he’s wearing collared shirts or low necked shirts.

  • jericho

WTF???!!!! KRIS WON and he only gets FIVE songs while freakin’ Adam gets EIGHT?!!! WTF is going on here?!!! Dammit, I HATE this! Screw Adam and his stage whoring! Do you understand that KRIS WON and Adam LOST???!!!!

The medley is one song as it is only parts of the 3 songs melded into one, so, therefore, he is singing 4 solos and 1 duet. If Adam and Kris couldn’t give a crap about how many songs/solos/etc. why the heck do the fans? The competition is over and both of them are happy with the results.

I agree with Adam, btw, … Portland does rock!!!

ETA: Apparently I am channeling Ellie2 today

  • lulwut

I HATE this! Screw Adam and his stage whoring!

Judging from your username, you can’t. You have to be a man.

LOL, seriously, Kris got five solos, the most of all. And tour isn’t much related to post show career, which I believe should be the focus of Kris and his fans.

  • Sunshinegirl

Well then they should take one of Adam’s solos away like the medley or something since he’s doing the duet with Allsion. He should not get the same amount of stage time as the winner since HE DID NOT WIN!

  • girlygirl

Some new blogs on the USA Today site. Adam talks more about his album, Matt taks about a hosting gig he’s signed up to do, etc. I think the USA Today guy is going to be blogging all day, including during tonight’s concert. So this might be another good place to check for updates.

    http://blogs.usatoday.com/idolchatter/

The Idol blogger from the Seattle Times is going to be doing a lot of reports and tweets and whatever today, too, supposedly.

Interestingly, there’s been almost nothing in either of the Portland papers about the AI tour. It’ll be interesting to see if they even review it tonight. I would think they would, but we’ll see…

  • Qcloud9

I’m thinking they must give ‘How to Stay Sweat-Free in Leather’

This reminds me of the “Friends” episode where Ross is wearing leather pants for the first time & he’s in the bathroom at his new girlfriend’s place & he can’t get them back on. He finds some powder & tries that, but he’s all sweaty & it just makes a big hot mess. Hilarious! :lol_tb:

  • Susan M.

Ellie2, HEE! I know. Believe me, as someone who is NOT genetically blessed that way (thanks, Dad) I far more resemble the SNL sketch even when singing on Rock Band with my nephews (okay, maybe not that bad, but after a serious workout …). And to prolong the sweat talk, it has nothing to do with body hair (old wives tale) it’s genetics.

Can’t WAIT!! It’s less than two weeks for me now; 7 and 17 are my lucky numbers and I’m going 7/17!

  • Anne03

Sunshinegirl – hope you get to go to the concert. You might find you’ll enjoy it.

I’m going call it the way I see it. Many people are only going to see Adam. I know if Adam wasn’t going to be on stage for at least 20 minutes, I wouldn’t waste my money on two tickets. Alot of people feel that way. Kris won, he’s closing the show and gets the most solos. But Adam is the draw for many people. This tour has to make money, so TPTB need to feature both Kris and Adam as they are both popular. No one is dissing Kris, at all. People love Kris, but alot of people love Adam too.

I know you’re being sarcastic but the sad fact is that there WILL be some fans doing EXACTLY that.

  • Mom in the Suburbs

I’m curious about the upcoming reports tomorrow on the concert. I firmly believe these singers are going to “convert” some non-fans. I’ve suspected that Lil is going to really surprise me for example. Seems the judges’ promotion of the three early frontrunners had to be for some reason, and their live vocals had to be great for those judges’ raves. I liked Danny at the beginning and Anoop, too, even Megan briefly. These are contestants who didn’t know how to play the Idol game or faltered under pressure, but this concert will bring out their best. I was very disappointed when my fave didin’t win, but that’s in the past. I expect to be very impressed with the guy who did win. There’s a reason these people made it to the top 10!

Sideline Adam-fan comment: Adam impressed me from the very beginning, so of course I’m not surprised to hear that A) the producers have given him a major amount of stage time and B) reports are continuing to validate how amazing he is to see and hear live. Can’t wait to see the tank top.

  • Mary102

I agree — sure, Adam may not have won in the end, but even those who didn’t like him the best (and preferred other singers), often state that they would go see him in concert first, because of his stage presence and dynamic as a performer.

Last year Cook got 5 songs, and Kris has the same, and imo they treated Archie as almost “co-winner” in terms of giving him 4 songs, lots of time on stage, etc.

I do think based on how the season turned out, in terms of Adam being such a dominant force all season long, that giving him a lot of stage time is only fair. Kris still ends the show and has more solo songs.

  • snuffles

    lulwut Jul 5th, 2009 at 3:03 pm

Adam is the reason that SO MANY people are going’ ¦ I’m sure more than Kris fans. Not trying to be mean, but its true.

Can you provide something to back this up other than just fanwanking?

Well, don’t know about the actual people buying the tickets, but Adam is the only people the majority of the media seems genuinely excited about seeing on tour…and in everything else.

  • karenw

Well then they should take one of Adam’s solos away like the medley or something since he’s doing the duet with Allsion. He should not get the same amount of stage time as the winner since HE DID NOT WIN!

If this were the case then they need to take one of Alison’s solo’s away seeing as she is singing the same number of songs in total as Danny … even though she finished a place below him.

I get the feeling that all of the the idols are going to have a blast on this tour and are grateful for the opportunity they have to be there … I very much doubt they are sitting in their hotel rooms moaning about the amount of stage time they have. ….. it just seems to be some of the fans who appear to be fretting about it.

Everyone knows Kris is the winner, he got the most votes, he got a record contract, he will be the closing act of the tour and he probably has the most solo stage time (although I won’t be timing it) … I’m sure he’s going to enjoy every minute of it.

I bet they all put on a great show.

  • GeminiDolly

You know the same can be said about Kris. Many are going to see him and dont care even a little bit about Adam’s set. I dont see how you can determine that X amount of people are just there for Adam. Grrrrr, Ive got suckered into comparisons. Must. stop.

  • smartcookie

I have to be honest with you — the main reason I’m NOT going is because I can’t stand the Adam focus. It just doesn’t sit right with me for the runner-up (oh, excuse me, “co-winner”) to be given that kind of spotlight on the tour at the expense of the winner. Kris may be fine with it; I’m not.

The closest tour stop is three hours away from me. (Actually, there are three stops, all three hours away in different directions.) That’s just not close enough for five songs from Kris and the rest of the evening suffering through the Adam-and-Matt-Stravaganza.

Looking at that schedule, I would be doing more potty breaks than watching the show.

  • snuffles

And media = fans, how? I find the logic to be lacking.

I didn’t say “media = fans”, I was just pointing out that the MEDIA gives the impression that Adam is far and away the most popular.

But, hey if you want some idea of fan measurement, then you can check out each ones number of members on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Official web sites, etc… Adam is way ahead on all of those too.

Like I tell my kids, life is rarely “Fair”, but if you work hard and give it everything you’ve got (like both Kris and Adam), then good things will happen.

The competition is over and people are going to cheer like mad for the person(s) they came to see. People are going to buy the CDs of the person(s) they want to hear. Doesn’t matter who holds the title of “American Idol” in the real world.

Like Kara said, the music business is paved with heartache. The Idols are in the real world now and they better get used to it. (And their fans better as well.)

  • Renina

“JMHO I would rather get 1 more Kris number instead of the Scott-Matt duet. YMMV.”

Danny unbuttoning his shirt? Holy brain bleach moment, Batman!! Well, I’m glad I was forewarned.

I’m going mainly to see Adam and Allison and unfortunately for me Danny and his unbuttoned shirt will be smack in between them. This is a logistical nightmare.

I wish I was more excited about the front end of this show but Sarver and Scott? Oh boy.

  • GeminiDolly
  • Mom in the Suburbs

Snuffles, totally agree with you and think that was a clever way to put it, that it’s not necessarily a good idea to expect “the other Idols must constantly walk 6 step behind him” (just because he won). At the end of the day it’s about marketing, and as with the Davids last year, they have to sell concert tickets to two huge fan bases, plus the fan bases of the other 8. As I said above, anyone who attends this concert is going to be very entertained, even by the singers who weren’t their favorites.

  • SpenserJ

The number of online fans is not equal to the number of actual fans.

And no one knows the answer to the question either way, so it just always end up going in the same big circle.

I would love to see Kris, Adam and Allison, but I’m just not sure I can sit through the other crap to get there. And, Gokey’s boring, “inspiration” set right smack betwen Allison and Adam, might make me kill myself.

I would rather poke myself in the eye than listen to Matt and Scott duet. I think Matt is a great guy, who seems to have a really fun personality, but I really didn’t like any of his performances on the show.

I’m just not sure there’s enough “good” in this concert to make me want to spend the money. Maybe once I hear some recaps, I’ll change my mind.

  • daflaminga

Um, guys? Does ‘No Boundaries’ really count as one of Kris’s solos? Unfortunately, Adam may have it better than Kris after all…

Sunn, I agree with you 100%. I’m a Kris fan and I hate how some fans from both sides keep comparing every damn thing about the two of them. It really makes me crazy. It seems a lot of fans are still living in the AI bubble, and refuse to realise that the competition is over. Kris and Adam don’t even care. Lets think of their future careers and pray the make hit albums because in the real music world, it’s not easy, and what they need now is our support and prayers not unnecesary comparisons. They are two very different artists for God’s sake.Grow up fans !!!!!!!!!

^^^^ Exactly. These guys aren’t just reality stars anymore. They’re not our favourite contestants any more. They are, in the case of Kradison especially, recording artists in their own right who have the world to contend with, and the music industry to conquer. To them the AI journey is just a fond memory.

They are gone, they have flown the AI coop. All we can do now is watch and buy their records when they come out.

  • Q3

My one fear is that Adam fans will walk out rather than stay to hear Kris’ set. I hope they don’t do that ‘” it’s rude and disrespectful, IMO. Also, it sounds like Kris’ set is going to be really great ‘” if in a more low-key way than Adam’s.

I think most Adam fans are also Kris and Alison fans. They will not only stay for Kris’ but will support him. Also, no really Adam fan will leave before the last number because Adam is also in that.

I saw Kris and Adam perform live in NY (Today Show) and the crowd was heavily skewed to Adam fans but they all were all also thrilled to see Kris.

And looking around IDF, AI Forum, and other Idol websites, I don’t see very many negative comments about Kris. I do see some comments about not liking Adam — even on this site which is very polite. And of course, there are a lot of OTT Adam fans but there are also some OTT Kris fans.

Actually, I am not a Danny fan, but I am a bit fearful that a lot of people will take a break during his performance. That’s my current plan.

  • chessguy99

Natasha:I’m going mainly to see Adam and Allison and unfortunately for me Danny and his unbuttoned shirt will be smack in between them. This is a logistical nightmare.

Perfect time for a concessions break. Just watch out, some venues have closed circuit screens scattered about so attendees don’t miss the action.

@GeminiDolly, thanks for those pics and without getting sucked into the fan substantiation wars, amazing how many comments that Adam sighting has in 20 minutes (kind of like the 2 million more posts Adam has on his TWoP thread … sorry, that’s all I’ll say).

For the record, I really can’t imagine Adam fans walking out before Kris is even a remote possibility. And if they do? They’re loss.

this is my first season as an AI fan and the fanwaring still amazes me. holy cripes! funny how a show meant for entertainment is causing so much stress and anxiety! i agree, Susan M. kumbayah! there are plenty of other things in the (real) world to get worked up about. american idol should be FUN!

Girlygirl – i wouldn’t worry about adam fans leaving before kris. im sure a few will try to beat traffic, but if they are ONLY there to see adam and every millisecond he is on stage then they will wait for the group song at the end. but im optimistic that EVERY idol will get plenty of cheering and respect. although, again, im a newbie so whaddoiknow.

  • Mom in the Suburbs

About the set for Kris: I’m sure he’ll do fine with Hey Jude, and that will be a nice cover with all the other idols coming out to do a sing-along. The fact is, two weeks after seeing the Idol concert, I’m going to see Paul McCartney!!! I’ve seen him 3 times in concert, and let me tell you, when HE does Hey Jude, grown men weep.

  • maracaibo

    I hate Scott’s voice.

But I LOVE Matt’s. Soooo I am torn. Matt should have duet with someone else. I I guess they are just doing it for the piano dueling thing.

just really want to see Matt’s solo set.
Matty G is going to rock it with those songs!

Whoa…. LOL!! :o) Whatever. doesn’t matter to Kris… doesn’t matter to Adam… I’m sure they really don’t care. This is just stupid.

    Bitterness a little? eek.

Anyways, I definately won’t be walking out when Kris sings… I am going to see MAINLY Adam… but Kris & Allison too. The first half of the show though…. eeeek. can you say ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  • smartcookie

Well, I wasn’t joking. In my opinion, it totally and completely sucks that the producers and tour management have decided that Adam and Kris are co-winners and have been promoting it as such when they were not, in fact, co-winners. AFAIK, it wasn’t even close.

And for every prediction of fans who might cry that “If Kris doesn’t sell as many albums, it’s only because they didn’t promote him properly” (which hasn’t happened yet, btw, so is kind of faulty as a prediction, anyway — you could at least wait till 1) he doesn’t sell as many albums, and 2) these alleged fans — when Kris supposedly has no fans, after all! — say their ridiculous thing before ridiculing them for ridiculous things they haven’t said yet). But even if somebody DOES say that, it still won’t balance out the endless repetition of “Kris didn’t really win, it’s just that AT&T let ten people in Arkansas vote a gazillion times each” and “Kris only won because he got Danny’s uber-Christian, homophobic voters,” as well as the equally baseless assertion that Adam is the only reason people are coming to the tour so of course he should get the smoke, mirrors, pyrotechnics, rose petals tossed ever-so-delicately in his path, cabana boys toting palm fronds to cool his fevered-but-never-sweating Adonis-like brow, special wardrobe including stegosaurus jackets and boots flown in from Switzlerland, special medleys just for his special self, a Lear Jet all to himself so he doesn’t have to ride the bus with the also-rans, any number of handlers and attendants to spritz him and perfume him and massage him and sort his M&Ms so that he will only have to see the green ones, and whatever else TPTB can dream up to make him stand out because Adam Forbid that anybody should think for even one second that Adam did not, in fact, win American Idol, season 8, and is not, in fact, Elvis, Part 2: Electric Boogaloo.

And yes, by this point, I AM kidding. But I still don’t like it that we’re all supposed to roll over and shutshutshut if we do indeed think that Kris is getting a raw deal and Adam is getting too much of the spotlight on the tour.

  • Natasha

Oh wow, you were serious. Using that logic, they should take away all the extra writers and producers he’s working with too. Matter of fact, why give him a contract, he lost for goodness sake.

She sounds like she’d be happy with that. Lol.

Lol at walking six paces behind Kris. Does this just go for the Idols or does his wife have to walk behind him too? Should fans genuflect and kiss his ring like they do with Pope? Just curious about the protocol here. Heh.

Relax peeps. This is supposed to be fun.

  • Meg23

Good choices for Anoop. He’s the main reason I’m going to the tour. I think “Mad” is a great song for his voice. He’ll obviously wipe the floor with Sarver in the battle of Ne-Yo covers. And what’s this about dancing? I adore his dorky moves.
I’m also really excited to see/hear Kris, Allison and Matt. Matt should get a pretty good reception here at the Atlanta show with 2 of his song choices (Georgia and Hard to Handle, since the Black Crowes are local.)
I can’t wait to see some videos after tonight’s show. Man, July 31 can’t come soon enough!

  • BeckyMD

    @girlygirl
Thanks for the usatoday article. More Adam talking about his album.

I like his interview with Redone so I wish Redone would have been in charge of his whole album and that would give it a more coherent sound. But based on that article, this is not the case…

I don’t know Adam’s talent in song-writing because AI didn’t show us that aspect. The only song I know he co-wrote is CTF. I like CTF but don’t feel it will be popular in majority. I like BTBW too but don’t know what to expect if the whole album sounds like BTBW.

I hate speculation w/ few facts to back up. Why the tour hasn’t begun yet?

its going to be a long tour if there is going to be this adam/kris comparisons going on CONSTANTLY. this is a business now – not a competition. 19 chose three people who i think can have pretty darn successful careers and they are going to be marketing the heck out of them. if they do it right this could bring them three major talents.

so just to sum up: its over, they don’t care so lets not care too and enjoy the summer of getting to listen to them in all their glory! haha

LMAO. This IS an American Idol event, and all Idols are under the same contract until the end of this gig. The “bubble” has yet to burst. I mean, they don’t call it the “American Idol Tour” for nothing! And the fact that 3 of them have recording contracts has no bearing on this tour.

Bottom line: The winner of this little show should and will be treated as such for the entire Summer.

And I seriously hope that one is being facetious when one claims that one cannot (physically) sit through X “just/even to see Y”….LMAO! Surely Y is worth it, no?

  • LisaE

it totally and completely sucks that the producers and tour management have decided that Adam and Kris are co-winners

As a previous outsider to the AI world, it looked to me like both Davids got equal pimping after the finale last year. I was aware of both of them and felt like I heard about them equally. That never struck me as odd. They were completely different artists and appealed to different demographics, but millions of people voted and invested a lot in both. They both deserved the spotlight. That’s the case this year. Two different artists that people invested a lot of time and heart in. IMO, both of their fanbases (which DO overlap) deserve to celebrate and enjoy this tour. Kris is going last, he’ll be the last thing people take away from this concert. He’s singing one more solo. That’s pimp enough.

btw. I can’t imagine people walking out of this concert … it costs money folks! And if they do, it would probably solely be due to the length of the concert, parking traffic and having to get up early for school/work the next day. People probably shouldn’t read too much into it!

Another update from USA Today. This time a nice blog post on Kris talking about his album…also a couple of the Idols talking about seeing the video opening for the tour for the first time…

    http://blogs.usatoday.com/idolchatter/

  • snuffles

By the way, I’m SURE if Kris asked for more bells and whistles for his Idol set, the AI PTB would be MORE than willing to give it to him. But that’s just not his style. Kris is “low key and chill” while Adam is “go big or go home”. It has nothing to do with who’s getting better treatment.

  • Susan M.

@smartcookie, I have to hand it to you, your post is hilarious. (“Adam forbid,” I’m going to have to use that one …). And the HBIC question coming directly after? I was like, “Hoo, boy, I am not touching THAT one.”

But even if our opinions differ, clever is clever and that was extremely funny. (I wonder if I should reconsider the altar I’m having built in Adam’s honor in my living room ..?)

  • taran33

The fan wars are the worst thing about AI. I understand the complaining of Adam when the poster thought he got more songs. It’s easy to suspect that, because he and Danny were treated like the first two people to ever sing a song on AI.

I remember being at the concert last year and David Cook came out and this group of girls were screaming for Archie. They were rude to Cook and made rude comments. Hopefully the OTT Adam fans don’t act that way, but if they do it’s their loss.

I’m actually looking forward to hearing the rest of the group as much as Kris. I think they always surprise me most on tour. I remember Season 5′s Lisa Tucker surprised the hell out of me when she sang. She was really good on tour.

  • AC

I think all these Kris/Adam comparisons are mainly just happening in the internet world and as much as I love to believe that what I write on the internet is the truth (or media attention= fans, you can measure fans through stuff on the internet), it’s not because it’s probably a tiny tiny percentage. For all the talk of walking out on idols or any other residual feelings left over from their fave not winning, I never really see it when I’m on tour.

I love Kris, but I don’t want Adam to walk 6 steps behind him because they’re Kradam- they belong together! hehe

Anyways, I’m really looking to the tour! Just one more week for me! I just wonder how they clean Adam’s jacket and how they get the sweat off because even Glittery Gods sweat. haha. and I wonder if Kris changes t-shirts throughout the dates- I hope so. I want variety in Kris concert pictures!

  • rockvixen

I like kRIS and all but his set is going to be a snoozer especially following Adam.

  • jpfan

Most people attending the show are there to have a good time.
and never I heard a boo at a concert. And yeah, people are free to take bathroom breaks. At my S5, lots of the crowd seemed to empty out during Bucky Covmington’s set. He seems to have survived quite nicely.

If some people live before Kris’s set, I think he’ll survive as well. And reviews won’t mean a whole lot either. Because while good reviews are always good, bad reviews aren’t the end either. Kelly Pickler got the worst reviews I’ve ever read of any Idol ever. Gee whatever happened to her.

Although Adam/Kris fans might want to bring one of those machines that measure applause and a stop watch. Just kidding.

  • Anya

smartcookie “And yes, by this point, I AM kidding. But I still don’t like it that we’re all supposed to roll over and shutshutshut if we do indeed think that Kris is getting a raw deal and Adam is getting too much of the spotlight on the tour.”

I agree with you about Adam being treated as co-winner, but we can only bitch and moan on the AI blogs. 19 doesn’t give boo about our opinion hence we can only prove our support for our fave by buying their music and tickets to their concerts. Clearly, 19 is seeing dollar signs in Adam because he generates buzz. This reminds me of Sanjaya generating buzz in Season 6. Don’t scream, Adam fans, I am not comparing their relative artistic merits. So, that’s why I am gonna wait to see Kris when he has his own tour or opens for someone whom I also like. I will avoid reading some blogs during the tour because I already know that Adam’s set is the best, he gets the most applause and his nail polish sparkles the brightest. I could swear that similar things were said about Cook last year and as some recalled about Taylor in Season 5.

  • jpfan

Oops, I can’t edit. So that’s Covington, of course. And people can leave anytime they want. I left during Taylor’s set myself coz I had to make a bus. And nobody cared because most of the audience stayed. Most people pay good $ for a ticket and want their money’s worth.

I’ve never been so excited for an Idol tour. Part of it is that I especially love Matt; I’m not sure I’ve ever liked an Idol contestant so much.

But I think twitter has made a big difference in humanizing these kids this year. They’ve been tweeting about their preparations, how nervous and excited they are – and it makes it all very real. Here it is, finally, the day they’ve been waiting for! I hope all 10 of them burn up the stage! Even Sarver and Gokey! And especially Matt!

  • shell29

Heh, the wars are starting early this year-it’s not even November yet!

Anyway, I agree with an earlier poster-I think some of the Top 10 will surprise us on tour this summer. It’s amazing what performing without the pressure of the competition and judging will do for them. Archie really blossomed as a performer last summer and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed Syesha’s set (she was someone I didn’t particularly care for during the season). I didn’t care for him much during the season, but I have to admit I’m curious to hear Michael’s set. I think he might be one that surprises me. I think Anoop is gonna kill on Mad (love that song for him).

I don’t foresee a mass exodus during any of the Idols’ sets, including Danny’s. I still don’t think the “hate” for him is nearly as widespread as it might seem from frequenting certain online boards/blogs.

  • Anastasia72071

    This jumped out at me:
Matt Giraud: ‘Hard to Handle’ by the Black Crowes

Uh-oh. I smell trainwreck. That song, with its super-fast chorus, is incredibly difficult to pull off.

  • BCU79

I discovered this site midway through the season and it quickly became my favorite. Coming out of lurking mode now to offer my two cents on the latest Kris/Adam issue. I was a Kris/Adam/Allison fan who voted for Kris each week. My goal was always to help get Kris as far as possible in the competition and then I would switch my votes over to Adam when Kris got eliminated. Obviously, things didn’t quite work out that way. :wink_wp:

But I think both guys are extremely talented and would have been happy with either of them winning. The fanwars seem kind of silly since both guys are great friends and obviously very content with the results, but I guess there’s no way around that in Idol land.

I have no problems with Kris and Adam singing the same number of songs of even being treated as co-winners. It makes sense and keeps both fanbases happy.

And as someone who became very protective of Kris over the course of the season, I look at this as the best possible result. Adam immediately stands out – his voice, his talent, his sexuality, etc. American Idol has never produced a contestant like him before. (As Kris himself has said – he stands out as well, but in a quieter way.)

Adam was going to get a lot of media attention regardless of where he placed. If Adam had won, he probably would have gotten the same amount of press. If Kris had finished second, I doubt he would have gotten anywhere near the media attention or gotten a co-winner edit. I also believe he’s much more likely to get a real promotion push from Jive as the winner than he would have as runner-up.

I also would love to see Kris get a little more attention from the media and it can be hard to stay positive at times. (The lack of updates on his website irks me.) But the promotion that really matters comes in the fall when the single/album come out. And Kris was underestimated during the entire competition and that turned out pretty well for him.

  • BeckyMD

I like Kris’ one producer idea as said in the USA today article.

But if I was a Kris fan, the following will really bother me:

Idols invariably say that the show rarely manages to convey their true musical personalities, and Kris agrees with that — “not musically, no.” So what can Kris’ fans expect? “I did a lot of acoustic stuff, and I played the piano, so having that organic feel, not a whole lot of production on the CD, I think they can expect that.

“On the other hand, I like a little bit of production. It just depends on the song. I think you can expect a little bit of that.”

And I don’t know whether to feel happy or worried that Adam seems extremely satisfied with 19E handling his musical personalities.

have to be honest with you ‘” the main reason I’m NOT going is because I can’t stand the Adam focus. It just doesn’t sit right with me for the runner-up (oh, excuse me, ‘co-winner’ ) to be given that kind of spotlight on the tour at the expense of the winner. Kris may be fine with it; I’m not.

As for me, Megan’s set might be my perfect bathroom break. I can’t bear to hear her butcher two cool songs by my faves Amy Winehouse and Corinne Bailey Rae…. :lol_tb:

@BCU79, THANK YOU! For someone who decided to wait to put their two cents in, you are certainly the voice of reason. Very well put.

@Ellie2, I just tried to go into chat to figure out how it worked and it wasn’t recognizing my username(?). I’m obviously registered here, but it says the name doesn’t exist. We’ll have to work on that.

In the meantime, people were posting their twitter names yesterday; hopefully that’s okay. I set up a “personal” twitter account because I didn’t want all my fangirl rantings going out to every professional colleague I had that is following me. I probably won’t be checking it everyday and will be sending out rarely (until concert time). I’ll still get my following updates on my main account. Anyway, it’s @alsosuse. You can direct tweet me :- )

  • lulwut

    Don’t forget Donny!

  • Danica_K

Wait. Is Sarver really going to butcher one of my favorite Ne-Yo songs and sing Closer? Really? That just doesn’t sound like it’ll be good. At all.

Yay for Anoop! So happy that he’s singing Mad! My Prerogative should get folks on their feet too. GO ANOOP!

Matt’s set sounds interesting, and I hope he manages to nail Hard to Handle.

Danny’s set sounds, dare I say it, boring. How does he have so many fans?

Allison, Adam and Kris all have great songs, so their sets should be fun!

I’m excited for the group numbers, too!

I am so anxious to see Anoop’s dorky/hot dance moves!

  • Anastasia72071

I also really puzzled why Matt is getting so much time. Not nitpicking either, just an observation.

    LaurelG
Well, he was kinda robbed during the Finale with only that small solo snippet in the Santana song. Maybe they’re trying to make it up to him. He did come in fifth.

Getting more stage time than people who stayed in the competition longer – for 50 (or is it 55?) concerts – is HUGE compensation. *Especially*, as snuffles said, for someone who was saved twice during the competition.

In general I am disappointed that the bottom 6 are getting more stage time overall than the top 4 – even if one can argue that during group numbers they only get a few lines each, they’re still out there on that stage, and while the one is getting their little solo, the others are singing backup. I have never been to an Idol concert (and never will again – I’ve never spent $95 on a concert/show in my life!), so I don’t have anything to compare this to, but on the face of it, it’s all very unbalanced.

  • dsp

I have looked at that Twitter pic of the group a few times and i keep cracking up everytime i look at kris with the Adam knockoff hat——they really are like siamese twins next adam will be wearing tennis shoes

  • webster

Man, this thread is enlightening. So, when does the contest end? I mean, I know it’s officially ended, and the contestants and media think it’s ended, but how long do people get to play this fan-invented performance stats contest? It’s obviously buckets of fun, because otherwise no one would bother with something that could so easily interfere with enjoying the show.

But counting songs and minutes of stage time is awfully easy. I had a friend once who listened to opera with a pitch pipe and spread sheet to keep track of who really hit the high notes and who fudged. Does anyone fold anything like that into the game? Keep track of how high or how low each singer goes, to make sure it’s in line with their kicked-offness? (And how does Matt figure in, since voters kept kicking him off and the producers kept bringing him back?) Or maybe count number of notes they each get. But how would instruments figure in? If you sing at the same time that you play a note, do both count against your allottment? No big chords, Scott!

But seriously: somebody just post the contract, see what it says the winner et al gets, if the winner (et. al.) got what was promised (or more) in the contract, can’t we all just relax and enjoy the show? (metaphorically speaking, ‘cuz I’m not going to it) But, I shouldn’t say that. Games can be relaxing, and if people enjoy this post-contest contest, that’s their biz.

What I liked about the article: the show is less cheezy!!! Surviving idol to become relevant is a hurdle. They’ve been getting fewer contestants from the cheese aisle, and maybe that’s sinking in. If that ‘tude bleeds into the actual show, it could help them all. Now if they can only fix the psycho fan thing.

  • Sassycatz

These guys aren’t just reality stars anymore. They’re not our favourite contestants any more. They are, in the case of Kradison especially, recording artists in their own right who have the world to contend with, and the music industry to conquer.

I agree. Idol is over. And now, the former contestants should rise and fall on their own merits. So….That would be a good reason to get rid of the words “Kradison” and “Kradam.” (I hate cute nicknames.)

And I seriously doubt there will be a mass exodus out of any arena after Adam performs … unless a prop catches on fire.

One would hope that Adam’s fans are classy enough to stay until the end, because I think that is what he would want, just saying. Besides, maybe Kradam is going to follow in the footsteps of MAVID and people will find it absolutely necessary to stay until the last note is sung.

These guys aren’t just reality stars anymore. They’re not our favourite contestants any more. They are, in the case of Kradison especially, recording artists in their own right who have the world to contend with, and the music industry to conquer.

I agree completely. And, based on all the reports from people who saw the rehearsals, it seems that everyone thought Alison, Kris and Adam were all great. So, hopefully, they’ll all do well and give everyone a great show tonight.

Oddly, even though Alison said she is nervous about performing before such a large audience, I have a lot of confidence in Alison being great — I think she will really benefit from not having the judges getting ready to pounce on her. And, since she came in #4, she has been a bit below the radar.

IMO the expectations are high for Kris but, if possible, even higher for Adam. I’m almost 100% sure that they’ll both meet fan expectations, but as an Adam fan, I get a bit worried when I read things like this from a fan who saw yesterday’s rehearsal:

“Adam was a religious experience,” says Jessica Jordan, 22, a Spokane, Wash., resident who runs an Adam Lambert fansite called Lambert-Pics.com.

I think it all might be a bit OTT.

I’m almost 100% sure that they’ll both meet fan expectations, but as an Adam fan, I get a bit worried When you already love a certain artist, the live performance is seldom a letdown, in my experience going to concerts. Only if the sound-quality is off or if that singer is botching a lot of notes in live singing have I ever been disappointed at a concert. However, several artists really transcend expectations, and maybe that’s what that one Adam-fan meant when she said it was a “religious” experience, lol. I mentioned earlier that I’m going to see Paul McCartney just 2 weeks after the Idol concert, and his concerts are *always* religious experiences because he doesn’t just rest on his legend laurels–he really sings and plays well. I expect all 10 singers to be at least good, but Adam’s live voice is said to be ethereal and stunning.

my wife and 3 kids are going to the Sacramento one on Friday. We are all excited to finally see our favorite contestant this year – Kris Allen. I was relieved that this year will again be a mini-concert for each contestant just like last year. I think Kris’ set list is awesome. My kids are excited about No Boundaries and Heartless. I am excited about Bright Lights and Hey Jude. And we already bought the glowsticks!!! I also packed the earplugs just in case. Last year, we were sitting beside a bunch of shrieking teens. I agree — I only saw him sing 1 song live, and it wasn’t the best sound system, but his voice was amazing — and stunningly powerful and clear.
Looking forward to seeing him live on the AI Tour. (My first AI Concert.)

I can also see that Danny may be better live. AI is interesting because we end up voting based on TV performances and that isn’t always the best way to judge a vocal performance. I have never been to Idol live, but I have read numerous reports about how different the live performance are vs. the TV show.

  • spring2009

In my opinion, it totally and completely sucks that the producers and tour management have decided that Adam and Kris are co-winners and have been promoting it as such when they were not, in fact, co-winners. AFAIK, it wasn’t even close

Really – what I think has happened is that TPTB know that internationally there is far more appeal with Adam so they are running with it. Yes, Kris won in the U.S., but apparently that is not what TPTB are looking for. The show is a joke, but I am glad that it has at least given a couple of them a foot in the door.

Squirrely, holla! to you and to Benji (he is from my immediate area and it was a big deal here). So far, that’s the only year I got into SYTYCD (and I don’t know why, because I used to dance and I love dancing). BTW, I’m sorry, I have to say it, Adam is cuter than ever in that video. Damn!! Lil is awesome too, but I do sense some nerves there (and I can’t blame her one bit). Adam, way to stand your ground with the reporters!

I like that they broke everyone up into different pairs for the backstage interviews. That was a cute video f Adam and Lil –and thank you to the reporter (or whoever) for actually talking to both of them, rather just Adam. Nice to see, after having seen far too many interviews where Megan was basically ignored when she was paired with him. Still got the lively charm of Adam…ut it’s good to see Lil have a chance to be funny and sweet, too

I think Adam will be spectacular tonight. He has more experience onstage than most of the contestants this year, and he showed consistent confidence and poise on the show. He’s the one I least worry about.

I worry a little bit about Allison because she’s young and inexperienced, but I 99% am sure she’ll be fine also. After the way she handled herself at the finale, I know she will be.

And Kris seems to handle himself well under pressure so he’ll be okay too.

  • evanjane

My entire family went to the American Idol Show last year in CT. This year’s show seems to be set up the same as last year. The love between the kids (top 10) was evident and the audience was kind and gracious to each performer. There were a lot of families with their young kids, a lot of 30, 40, 50, 60 year old women and some men, dads and husbands, also some college-aged girls. Really a mixed bag, but predominantly family. My 11 year old daughter saw a lot of her school friends at the concert. There were not many teen boys — my 14 year old son wasn’t pleased at all. He liked Michael Johns’ Queen performance, thought Carly was cool and he liked David Cook.

As I said, the audience was well-behaved, I didn’t see any OTT fangirls. Thank God. Most people seemed quite rational. The line for the bathroom was the biggest bone of contention — my daughter and I went during the top 5-10 group performance. Didn’t want to have to use the port-o-pottys lined up outside.

From my experience, the only “haters” and OTT behavior I’ve encountered has been online. I don’t think people paying $125.00 a ticket or more are going to leave a show just because Adam Lambert has finished his set. Many, many people enjoy the other contestants. I’m thinking some people here need a dose of reality. (I recall David Cook had plenty of vocal haters online, but his fans prevailed, as he did as well.)

  • Mary102

After looking at the group pic from Danny’s tweet, it does confirm that Adam and Megan were close from the beginning of the season. I had seen them with their arms around each at the end of at least one the results show.

OMG – do you think they’re an item ;-) JK, of course.

Still, I always thought of a bunch of the group as getting along really well behind the scenes – not just Adam, Allison, and Kris – but also Megan, Anoop, Matt, Lil. They all seem very fun and silly.

And that vid with Adam and Lil was very cute – yeah, Adam’s Single Ladies impression (where is his version on youtube ;-) )

I wouldn’t worry about Adam fans not sitting through Kris’s set – way too much Kradam love out there for that. I never liked Kris during the season as a performer (just not my style), but I LOVE him as a person, and really respect him as an artist, and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing him on the tour!

In general, I think they will all do really well – they always have in the past. Some are not as interesting or memorable as others (usually more based on song choice than ability), but all of them are entertaining and good.

ETA: I think Sarver and Scott are going to have the hardest time wowing me just by looking at the song choices – I just can’t imagine how “Closer” is going to come across.

he [Adam] should get the smoke, mirrors, pyrotechnics, rose petals tossed ever-so-delicately in his path, cabana boys toting palm fronds to cool his fevered-but-never-sweating Adonis-like brow, special wardrobe including stegosaurus jackets and boots flown in from Switzlerland, special medleys just for his special self, a Lear Jet all to himself so he doesn’t have to ride the bus with the also-rans, any number of handlers and attendants to spritz him and perfume him and massage him and sort his M&Ms so that he will only have to see the green ones,

That’d be cool. Can I spritz or wipe his brows?

I’m on vacation in Wisconsin with about five minutes of computer time. Can’t wait to get home to read all of the reports and comments. I am so excited for all of the idol top 10 but particularly for Kris. Can’t wait to see the videos. What a mega talented guy. I love that he is doing piano, acoustic, and electric guitar along with singing. I can’t wish away the summer, but am looking forward to the fall concert in Chicago.
