The X Factor auditions began in Austin TX yesterday amidst almost immediate controversy as new judge, Britney Spears suddenly disappeared from the panel and missed four auditions!  Oh, you know Simon Cowell  is loving it.

The “will Britney meltdown?” watch had officially begun in earnest!

    Wow, the tryout treadmill. Makes you wonder what all these hopefuls will do a few years from now after all these shows have been canceled. Yikes.

    Its very possible, given the proliferation of singing competitions.

    i listened to a few of their critiques already and they sounded competent for the most part imo. i’m looking forward to them being on the panel. :)

    Britney’s looking nowadays like a 40-yr-old who’s had work done.  The clothes are fine; it’s the hair & makeup that need an update. Ease up on the blonde dye and make the makeup more fresh-faced.  She’s still young & puts out youthful music – she doesn’t need to look so old.

    Demi’s got a golden opportunity here to really up her visibility, brand, and image. If she’s got the right personality for the job, this is her PR person’s dream.

    ETA: in the video, that crowd out front is disarmingly small, especially for a superstar like Britney, who’s probably thinking “WTF is this?” when she stepped out of her limo. Even the auditorium doesn’t look filled to capacity (the far wing looks empty). I guess that’s what happens if you bring XFactor to a small college town (even if it is a bastion of music).

    I wish people would get all the facts before blowing up. She left to go to the bathroom, not because she was upset a constant butchered her song. And the four performances she missed probably won’t even appear on the show so what does it matter. This whole “meltdown” watch is completely ridiculous.

    On another note, Britney seems to be doing extraordinarily well, and all of her critiques so far have been very professional and technically proficient. She is poring that she’s worthy of being on the show, and I can’t wait for America to see her doing so well.

    I wish Demi would go back to brunette but she does look great blonde too (but two blonde females on the panel?)

    PRAYING Simon treats Demi well. I’ve always loved her because she’s tells it how it is, she never got caught up in the fake side of Hollywood. If she’s not talking to Miley Cyrus, she’ll say it in an interview. If Simon wants to treat her like a brainless bimbo, she won’t take any of his crap (and neither will her fans!)
    Also hope he doesn’t stick Demi with the Over 30s+ group. I’ll say that Simon takes Groups because of One Direction blowing up here. I couldn’t guess about the rest but maybe Britney will have all girls like Christina on the first season of The Voice. LA Reid should get Over 30s+, in my opinion, because it would show Epic Records as a multi-faceted record label, presuming they do find a Susan Boyle/Mary Byrne [from X Factor UK] type singer this year (not gonna count on it though).

    Why am I NOT looking forward to this show and hoping XF season 2 will be the last…XF seems to be more about Simon and drama and creating press headlines outside of the show – not about the competitors.  These shows more and more about the judges – people looking to resurrect or get a bump in their careers- not about mentoring or finding new talent
