Contemporary dancer, Robert Roldan, who came in third place in So You Think You Can Dance Season 7, tweeted details today of a major car crash in June that nearly ended his life. Suffice it to say, he won’t be dancing for awhile.

The Reason I Will Not Be An All Star

This past june my life was almost ended. One night I had a major accident that changed my life. I injured myself very badly and to the extent where I had to be rushed to the hospital immediately. This accident has cause me to be unable to dance which is why I’m writing this letter.

Every doctor that I have been to since has said “wow…you’re lucky you are alive..” or “people with kind of accident are usually are pronounced dead on the spot..”

Therefore I just want to tell everyone single one of you how much your support and encouragement means to me. It makes me fight through this bump in the road. The kind things you have said to me and things you have done for me truly mean the world. One day I will be back on my feet and dancing and doing the things I love to do. In the mean time I am so lucky to be living breathing and opening my eyes everyday.

I will never take anyone of you and your support for granted because every single one of you are important weather I know you or not. You have made my journey from sytycd to now more than a dream and I can’t thank you enough for it.

Always cherish the things that you have, even if they are the smallest things because it can all be taken away in the snap of a finger. My heart goes out to each and everyone of you with so much thanks!

This is not the end. God has a plan. I won’t give up till I’m on that stage again.

Much love and thanks,

Robert

Wow. That sounds pretty awful. Robert is a beautiful dancer, and hopefully he’s back on his feet soon, doing what he loves. Season 7 was the year that Lauren Froderman won. It was also the season that introduced the concept of the All-Stars. One of Robert’s most memorable routines was a contemporary piece choreographed by Travis Wall. Travis’s mom had battled cancer.

Robert was an All-Star himself, the following season, where he danced with winner Melanie Moore and others.

Oh my poor baby! Seriously, this is so disheartening to hear. Bless him, and thank God he is alright. Hopefully he makes a fast enough recovery. Loved him that hear of SYTYCD.

This is a shock.  Robert was my favorite, voted for him, could not understand his lukewarm reception by the public.  It seems he was on so recently as an All-star, but obviously it was last season.  I’m gratefu that he pulled through, and it sounds like he can recover and dance again.

OMG! Robert was my favorite of his season and one of my favorite all stars. I hope he can fully recover and dance again!!!

Robert was my favorite from Season 7 and I was so glad he was on as an All Star.  He is an amazing dancer and he emotes the dance through his entire being.  He is in my prayers to get well and get back on stage to do what he loves best – dance.

I loved Robert’s dancing and he was a terrific partner!  So sad to hear this news!  We were fortunate enough to see him dance.  May God bless him and bring a speedy recovery!

I’m back!  I hope Robert can find the strength to obtain his goal of dancing again.  It is awful if a dancer can no longer dance, but Robert needs to walk well first.  He was a pleasure to watch!

My heart dropped when I read this on twitter yesterday. I just adore Robert – I too loved him on his season. He was definitely one of my favorites that year – such a beautiful dancer. And he’s grown to be one of my overall faves of the whole series. From seeing him on the show and following him on twitter, he seems like SUCH a sweetheart – just as beautiful on the inside as he is on the outside. I was wondering why we hadn’t seen him as an Allstar yet this season. SO SAD that this is the reason.

As I tweeted to him, when he’s able to dance again, and we are able to see that, it will be all the more special, knowing even just a portion of what it’s taken for him to get there. My prayers are with him. There is clearly a bigger plan for him, for him to survive such a serious accident.

How awful for Robert!  He is a beautiful dancer and I pray he can fully recover.  I have to ask though, was this a car crash?  He seems very careful to not be specific on the type of accident it was.

Robert was my favorite that season.   I’m glad he’s alive.

NO!  Robert was my favorite dancer on his season and I looked forward to seeing his smiling handsome face every week!

So glad that Robert has come back, and his All-Star turn on SYTYCD last night was FANTASTIC!

I still want to know what happened to Robert. He says “accident” but nothing about a car. Mary mentioned something about a “fall” when she was talking to Robert after his dance with Tucker. There’s no press whatsoever about his accident so the details are very murky. He clearly had some very major changes to his mouth and jaw. I wonder if he shattered his face doing a trick? Anyway, I’m glad he’s back. Such a beautiful dancer.
