Simon Cowell, interviewed by ex-girlfriend and Extra correspondent Terri Seymour, is already predicting the winner of next season’s American Idol.

“I’m 100% a guy will win this year.”

Really? 100% a guy will win?   Is he serious? Has he picked a winner already? Or is he just screwing around with the fans…  He also calls new judge Kara DioGuardi, “mouthy,” but claims, “I’m beginning to warm up to her… I think she knows what she’s talking about.”

Simon sucks, but not enough to deserve this crap. From the Guardian:

Lawyers acting for The X Factor judge Simon Cowell have warned UK newspapers not to harass their client after a tracking device was allegedly found attached to his Rolls Royce last week. Law firm Carter-Ruck sent the warning letter to national newspapers on Friday after consulting with the presenter’s publicist, Max Clifford, who told MediaGuardian.co.uk that “enough is enough”.

According to Clifford, the letter pointed out that the use of a tracking device is illegal and could lead to prosecution. He added that the identity of the journalist who allegedly attached the device is known to him and the individual concerned has been approached.

“We now who he is and we have marked his card and told him to never do anything like that again,” Clifford said.

Nutty!   Also, in the Extra interview, Simon praises Britney Spears, who performed on his British talent show, The X Factor on Saturday to huge ratings. Is anybody watching this show? Thoughts?

“A star is a star is a star. Incredible. She’s back on top.” Cowell added, “This girl’s got huge star quality… You’ve got to hand it to her. She’s a great performer.” And how would he rate her? “Britney’s back… 9.5 (out of 10)!”

I posted Brit Brits’ performance in Sunday’s Headlines, but in case you missed it, check it out after the JUMP…

Hm.   Not the disaster her MTV performance was, but she’s still lip syncing to lame dance moves.   Not very impressive…

Ugh, Simon tells Ryan Seacrest on his radio show, that he’d love to have Britney on American Idol… Oh, the irony of having a performer lip sync on AI…

He also claims Britney was “in awe” of him. Uhhm…

The real Simon manged to break through for about a second when he said about his break up with Terri Seymour, “I take it day by day, that’s the only thing you can do…”

This kind of keeps up the rumors that idol is rigged.

Well, they’re both single now, aren’t they?

Simon is so stuck on himself, I don’t even think a crowbar could pry him loose. Ugh. Can’t stand him. Yet, if he wasn’t on the show, I wouldn’t watch.

  • leome

Simon lives for controversy… that’s what AI should be for him.
    What a stupid thing to say à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m 100% a Guy Will Win this Yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

  • Glamour

Has anyone noticed how right Simon usually is?

  • FolkFan

    Yes—Simon has noticed that. Heh.

  • IdolFanatic

Well I guess that would make it even then….4 female winners and 4 male winners. Are they going for a pattern to even it out?

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

Actually, Simon’s usually pretty good with his predictions. I’ll be watching the guys for sure. Or, better yet, I’ll be watching to see which guy the pimp the hardest because they want him to win.

  • jenni

It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if they wanted a guy to win after the ratings from a male/male finale and the very strong record sales for both. Now it just a question of what kind of guy they want to win. They got their rocker and their pop singer this season; male singer-songwriter?

  • hypertwink

Maybe, they found out that because of the Davids (as well as Jason & MJ) a lot more guys came out of the woodwork since a lot of genres were represnted in Season 7 from rock to pop to folk to soul…even stripper music. Heh.

  • jnd1221

Seriously? 100%? Weird. I have to say, I’ve never been a Britney fan but I’ve been seriously rooting for her comeback lately. I don’t understand it, I guess I just like an underdog. I’m glad to see she looks somewhat normal and sane again.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

I may have to vote for a gal. ;-)

  • LK08

jenni- I am with you- male singer/songwriter is what they want next (single).

  • sabby_rina

a lot of genres were represnted in Season 7 from rock to pop to folk to soulà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦even stripper music.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Stripper music! That made me LOL really loud and I’m at work.

As for Britney, I’m rooting for her comeback too. I think we all forget she’s human like the rest of us so it’s easy to bash her. However, I’m not sure I want her to perform on AI since she does lipsynch but she will give IDOL big ratings so who knows.

  • Hazehel

There are probably a few outstanding guys, but I’d bet the one of them, if not the one, Simon had in mind is Von Smith.

  • IdolFanatic

I agree that it doesn’t put to rest the rumors that the show is fixed. What Simon wants, Simon usually gets. Taylor winning Season 5 is the exception and reminds me that it isn’t fixed. Simon definitely did not want him winning, nor did he even want him in the Top 12.

We do have Archie the pop singer who is likely going to be quite successful, but we haven’t had a male pop singer actually win yet, so I wouldn’t rule that out yet. Ruben was R&B and Taylor was Soul. I’d like to see someone who is similar to Jason’s style win it or Brooke it if a girl wins it. I am actually hoping a girl wins it this year, but I may change my mind after the show starts like I did last year. It would be cool to have a girl/guy finale where it is too close to call. The past girl/guy finales were pretty obvious before the final 2 show even aired.

  • Anya

There is definitely a lack of male pop singers who can actually sing. David A is one but the pop world could probably use another one to make up for the mediocrity of Britney, Katy Perry, etc.

  • gingerly

Simon is definitely a legend in his own mind…

I think the male pop singers do better than some of the female i.e. Katy, Britney, Miley…

  • soundscene

Simon: “I’m 100% we’ll pimp a guy to win this year.”

  • LK08

Simon is definitely a legend in his own mindà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

    So true. LOL

Hazehel- How would you classify Von Smith?

  • hypertwink

Same as last year, right? The only questions are which horse to pick, and will they change in midstream. Um, I think I mixed my metaphors. :biggrin_wp:

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

I’m rooting for Britney to get her life together, but not necessarily a comeback and a guest stint on a singing competition. I actually think a couple of years out of the spotlight in Louisiana would do her way more good in the long run. She is looking great, though, so good for her, I guess.

  • IdolFanatic

I also would like it if they would keep the margin of votes that seperate the final 2 to themselves. When it was really close like in Seasons 2 and 3, yeah I guess it was kind of cool to hear how close it was, but when it’s not, why embarass the runner up? I think Season 7 was the only time they announced it when it wasn’t even close. I hated that Ryan announced it right at the top of the show this past year because I already immediately felt bad for whoever came in second and it kinda ruined the rest of the show for me. It’s kind of embarassing to lose by a landslide and have it be announced to 30 million people.

  • LK08

Ah idolfanatic- it’s all good. DA didn’t care. He was just grateful to be in the top two, and he’s doing great!

  • IdolFanatic

Ah idolfanatic- ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all good. DA didntà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ care. He was just grateful to be in the top two, and heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s doing great!

True and I knew that both guys were very classy and neither were going to care, but I guess that’s just me – LOL!

There is definitely a lack of male pop singers who can actually sing

True, true. Besides DA, the only ones that come to mind are Jesse McCartney, Nick Lachey, and Justin T.

I think the male pop singers do better than some of the female i.e. Katy, Britney, Mileyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

    True again.

Plenty of female pop singers can sing. Pink, Christina, Alica, etc. :-) There are great singers and lame ones from both genders.

  • sidewalk

Hm. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Jason Castro/Jack Johnson/Jason Mraz/John Mayer type guy win this year.

  • houstonrufus

This sooooo does not convince me to get on board for S8.

His drooling over Britney says volumes. To me, at least. And no, I’m not taking a swipe at Britney. I wish her the best. She’s had a rough go of it the past couple years. I just think it says volumes about Simon. Jump on the trend pointing up so he looks like a prophet.

  • gingerly

Exactly pj. It’s not gender specific at all. I’m just hardpressed to think of a male (and I actually don’t listen to the radio if I can help it) who sucks as hard as those three superstars I mentioned.

  • Justin

Grr. Thanks for ruining the season Simon. He did that with Carrie. I mean of course 100% before a season even begins is not accurate yet, but knowing Simon, he will work doggedly to make his prediction come true because we all know Simon can’t be wrong. So you’re all right– he will PIMP a guy. Damn! That Von Smith guy, dude, he’s good, but I don’t really like his voice for a guy. So — ahhhhhh! Damn you Simon… I’m sorry, but for me personally it is more exciting when the girls do better and a girl wins. It just is. Nothing against Cook and the other 2, I just think it’s more exciting for a girl victory. Usually the girls are better all together… besides I’m a guy and I do not want to re-watch another season full of girl teenieboppers who vote on popularity and looks (jason castro, archuleta, and cook) even when they do bad.

  • Hazehel

LK08 – Soul and R&B I suppose, that’s the kind of music he likes, but pop will do just as well. I noticed that he comes from Kansas City which might count against him – would they have two persons from the same place winning AI twice in row? I hope he learns some restraint in the way he sings, his singing reminds me of Sam Harris from Star Search – over-dramatic and irritating at times, and irritating is how I find his (and Sam Harris’) rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow.

  • john_socal

Simon is great but he’s horrible at first impressions. He hated Kelly Clarkson in the Hollywood rounds. He voted no for David Cook in the Hollywood rounds. Didn’t much like Jennifer Hudson.

  • hypertwink

I do not want to re-watch another season full of girl teenieboppers who vote on popularity and looks (jason castro, archuleta, and cook) even when they do bad.

It’s not just the guys. Girls get a free pass too. Jordin and the horror that is Living on a Prayer. Carrie in all her ‘botness.

  • IdolFanatic

Hm. I wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be surprised to see a Jason Castro/Jack Johnson/Jason Mraz/John Mayer type guy win this year.

I would dig that! Funny how all those names begin with J too! :)

Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not just the guys. Girls get a free pass too. Jordin and the horror that is Living on a Prayer. Carrie in all her à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹botness.

Amen to that! Cute guy or girl, doesn’t matter really…they both get passes from time to time. Then again, I don’t think one bad week should necessarily send someone home. For instance, I was glad that Archie did not go home when he forgot the words Top 12 Week since he’d already proven himself more than capable prior to that week. Same with Jordin when she did Living On A Prayer. I am not inclined to vote for perfection week after week.

  • IdolFanatic

I noticed that he comes from Kansas City which might count against him – would they have two persons from the same place winning AI twice in row?

Not likely. I remember hearing about him on our local news. Would be pretty cool to have another local winner, but I highly doubt it will happen. And just because he’s from here doesn’t mean I will automatically like him.

  • elisad

Oh whatever Simon, this is too early for a chosen one. And I saw Britney’s performance on TXF(and Star Academy, and the Bambi Awards), she’s not “back on top”.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

I sincerely hope Simon is not talking about Von Smith….

Good thing they had those giant propane flames on stage or that Britney performance would have generated zero heat. She looks so incredibly awkward on stage considering the amount of experience that she has.

    Simon’s shtick is getting old.

Simon does not always get what he wants. Think Tamyra Gray, Daughtry, Melinda. Also his early predictions usually don’t pan out. I say a guy will win simply because the finales with guys seem to be more well received ratings wise. Women fuel this show and make up the biggest voting bloc I would imagine.

Ruben/Clay and The David’s were great teevee. Also guys seem to sell better right out of the box it seems especially when there is a popular tandem.

  • abbysee

Good thing they had those giant propane flames on stage or that Britney performance would have generated zero heat. She looks so incredibly awkward on stage considering the amount of experience that she has.

    True dat!

I am all for giving second chances, but what exactly is it that she is good at again? She can’t sing, her dancing is awkward and frankly dated, so her purpose is?

  • alleygirl08

I think after David A’s success..Simon wants another male pop singer that can sell. This is just like after Daughtry’s success how Idol wanted a rock singer to win afterwards. There’s always a lag effect with Idol. If they do enough pimping they’ll definitely get the results they want. There’s no way I believe this show is 100% manipulation free especially with Simon running the show.

  • IdolFanatic

Plenty of female pop singers can sing. Pink, Christina, Alica, etc. :-) There are great singers and lame ones from both genders.

Well true on that point too. And of course we can’t forget Kelly and Jordin.

It just seems that so many mediocre or bad female pop singers have had the biggest selling albums lately or had the biggest publicity lately like Miley for example.

  • IdolFanatic

I think after David Aà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s success..Simon wants another male pop singer that can sell.

Hmm….I don’t know. Simon hasn’t seemed to have any interest in anything David A can do since he sang Imagine the first time back in Top 20 Week. He trashed him to the media saying he would be an interviewing nightmare and such and really doesn’t seem all that big on him actually.

  • alleygirl08

Yeah I know he went trashing Archie in the media but at the end everything proved he was wrong..that’s why Simon has lost so much credibility and why I believe they brought in a more credible new judge. I mean, Simon even boasts about Jennifer Hudson’s success as though he had a part in it, when he slammed her during idol.

  • IdolFanatic

Good point! What do you wanna bet that the second Archie goes platinum with his album, Simon will be taking credit for that as well.

  • houstonrufus

That’s an interesting theory alley, but I think Simon still has the most credibility with the general public of all the three original judges. If Kara was brought in to off-set any judge issues, it would be those of Paula. For all the entertainment value her wackiness brings, her slip ups are embarassing even for a show used to being slammed.

I honestly don’t think Simon pays much mind to past contestants. He’s all about the new season.

  • ptslittlecomment

I noticed that he comes from Kansas City which might count against him – would they have two persons from the same place winning AI twice in row?

Ruben, Bo Bice and Taylor Hicks were all from Birmingham AL. Diana Digarmo spent some of her childhood there as well. Believe me, for the first few years of AI, the show treated the city like a goldmine! Its funny how they don’t even hold auditions or tour anywhere near there anymore. (Atlanta’s about two and a half hours away, Nashville is about 4 and a half. I guess the AI powers that be think that is close enough.)

  • primeminister

I honestly don’t think Simon’s referring to Von Smith.

Let’s see, from the spoilers that have already leaked, we have a blind guy who is a classically trained pianist and Rhodes scholar (Scott McIntyre), and then there’s that railroad worker who won one of the local Fox idol contests and has a great voice (Ryan P.A. Johnson). Perhaps it’s one of these guys?

  • Scifisam

I’m kinda glad he said that. I personally really only listen to male singers, and it seemed like we were mostly getting female talent in the spoilers, so it’s good to know before hand that the guy will in fact be representing again this year.

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

I actually could see a guy in his early-to-mid 20′s in the the pop/R&B vein winning this year, to compete with the Usher’s and JT’s and Ne-Yo’s and Chris Brown’s, etc, of the world. That’s something they haven’t had as a winner yet. Ruben was R&B, but isn’t exactly burning up the pop charts with his music. I could see them wanting something in the R&B vein but with more of a pop tendency than Ruben.

I could also see a singer/songwriter guy winning it – though I don’t think they’re going to find the next John Mayer, Jack Johnson, or Jason Mraz on this show. JMO. Plus, I see a girl in that style as more likely to win than a guy – they are very marketable right now (which is why I’m still scratching my head as to why 19A-Z signed Kristy and not Brooke.).

Or a male country singer. They haven’t had one of those win yet either. They all get kicked off early then sign with Lyric Street, lol. But Simon only likes country music when it’s young, pretty, blonde, and has boobs, so I doubt he’s talking about a country guy.

However, if they want a guy to win this year, they better “set it up” to be another guy/guy finale, since only once has a guy won in a guy/girl head-to-head finale. That said – I’m with pj here… I just may have to vote for a girl. ;)

Oh, and I thought Britney had a comeback last year? Is every new album she makes from here on out going to be dubbed as her “comeback album”?

And just wow at the lack of boundaries that the paps have. Ridiculous. I mean, Simon can be an ass, but no, he does not deserve having a tracking device put on his car and all that. Ridiculous.

  • Hazehel

I don’t think there are many interesting guys I heard so far. The blind one is OK, and to put it bluntly, I think he will do very well on the show but only because he is blind. Ryan P.A. Johnson has a good voice, but not quite outstanding. There are plenty of people we haven’t heard about yet, so any of them could be the contender.

  • Tess

Everytime I see Britney or Madonna perform my respect for the listening, viewing public heads downhill, again. IMHO it’s a sad thing when “sexy” sells at the expense of real talent. We, the buying public, can sure be led like lambs to the slaughter. And to top it off we don’t have enough self-respect to say “No way” I want good voices, singing good songs, with real emotion and talent.

I wish the Britneys of the world would just give it up and I really wish that non-talented people who think they know everything (AKA Simon) about the entertainment business would just keep their traps shut instead of acting like they are the Mesiah and we should all geneflect at their alter.

  • terps

Love her or hate her you have to respect what she has done in the music industry. Just on a side note to, parts of her performance was live vocals, I think she was sining over a track

  • JOJOSIE

Simon, the know it all, also passed on Taylor and Daughtry even going to Hollywood. He didn’t like Taylor’s style and he said Chris lacked personality. I for one don’t think he’s right that often, it’s just when he is right you hear about it (from him). A little ego is good but too much leaves me cold.

  • Thea

Here is, in brief, who’s in the semifinals of x-factor. Only my opinions!

Diana: very peculiar voice and take on the songs, impressive at first. starting to sound always the same though
Alexandra: best voice and singer by far. seems also nice and professional. could be Leona-2 if it all works out well
Eoghann: he’s 16 and cute, so everyone loves him. Imagine a British D Archuleta with more personality. Unfortunately not with the same singing chops
JLS: boy band. good vocals and nice guys (and i’m sure they get some votes for looks as well). some hit & miss performances. nothing too original from them

I’ll let you know how it ends!

PS: Simon is pimping Eoghann because he’s his mentor, but obviously roots for Alex to win

  • Grammie Kari

I just hope the Top 24 (or whatever number) isn’t full of plants. I still love to see an American Dream come true.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d like to see someone who is similar to Jasonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s style win it or Brooke it if a girl wins it.

I have been hoping TPTB will finally go for a Folk or Folk Rock theme and have an awesome mentor that week.

Is it too soon to get excited about Season 8?

  • Hazehel

This year X-factor has turned into a bit of a disaster. It’s supposed to be one of the best of seasons, but then some of the best singers got eliminated early on, and those left are really second-raters. Alexandra is probably the best of the lot, but that isn’t saying much, and I don’t think there is any chance that she’ll be another Leona Lewis. I think this year is a good example of why judges should not have the deciding vote as to who to kick off in the voting rounds, because they are the ones who got rid of the best singers. And geez, the judges falling for Daniel’s sob story is really too much, watch the blubbering idiot judge and have a good laugh at how he ruined this season by keeping in a mediocre singer –

I was telling my husband about Simon’s comment (being 100% sure) and he immediately said “Simon must have a female he really likes”, insuating that Simon is doing reverse psychology.

I have been hoping TPTB will finally go for a Folk or Folk Rock theme and have an awesome mentor that week.

Let it be Jack Johnson or Jason Mraz. For drama, I’d go with Jason since he can be really bitchy when something irritates the fuck out of him.

  • elisad

Jason is too young for Idol’s taste. They had Neil Diamond.

  • Lisa

Please spare us Britney on Season 8…..
