    How dull is your love
Idol moves into the home stretch. Dave White stretches and yawns.

    By Dave White

What if I just didn’t write a recap this week? What if I just told you that it was maybe the most boring week of the most boring season of this show that I’ve ever seen and left it at that? Like right now, for example, I’m procrastinating about even going back into my TiVo and pulling up the episodes. I’m watching The View instead, and Goldie Hawn is being fascinating, pretending she’s a scientist and talking about a kind of kid hyperactivity therapy that thickens their little prefrontal cortexes. She’s all about à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“centering strategiesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and getting kids to be calm. I don’t quite know what she’s on about, and it seems that The View ladies don’t either….

    DAUGHTRY SHOW DRAWS 40,000 FANS

Finally, a formula to get big crowds of people downtown. Get a top-selling rock act. Put it on an outdoor stage after a parade and before a fireworks show. Admit anyone wearing a $5 button.

The Wichita River Festival opened Friday with a post-Sundown Parade concert by rock band Daughtry that drew an estimated 40,000 people….

‘Great Band’ will follow ‘Idol’ format

Not content merely with finding the next great pop star, the producers of “American Idol” are looking for the country’s great undiscovered band.

“The Search for the Next Great American Band” (the sure-to-be-changed working title) is seeking musical ensembles of all stripes and genres, apparently without age limits or other restrictions (bands must include at least two people and can’t be a cappella).

The yet-unannounced judges will narrow the field down to 10 semifinalists before treating those groups to the full “Idol” treatment à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ live audiences, wacky theme weeks and voting by the American people…

    People: Somebody still likes LaKisha

LaKisha Jones, the latest “American Idol” contestant to be eliminated, is still No. 1 with her 4-year-old daughter.

“I called, and she said, ‘Mommy, I’m not mad,’ ” laughs Jones, the loser in this week’s fan voting on the TV talent show.

Besides, she says, finishing fourth overall isn’t that bad.

“All I can say is, ‘Look at Chris Daughtry,’ ” says Jones, referring to the singer who finished No. 4 last year, then jumped to No. 1 on the Billboard charts….

A tidal wave of “Idol” worship

The Bothell crowd of more than 7,000 was growing restless. Where was its American Idol?

Some teens chanted “We want Blake!” Others hoisted “We Ache for Blake” or “Bothell Boy, You Rock!” signs. And then, off in the distance, the twirling lights of police cars, the thundering beats of the Inglemoor Marching Band and Blake Lewis, all smiles and waves and two-fingered kisses, sailing down Main Street in a Mustang convertible with his beaming parents…..

    Bothell swoons for Blake
7,000 fans cheer on ‘American Idol’ finalist at triumphant homecoming

…Drivers caught in heavy traffic are less excited

Thousands of screaming “American Idol” fans clogged city streets and snarled traffic through downtown Bothell on Friday afternoon.

The congestion was so bad that at one point it stretched from the city center all the way onto I-405 and kept some people stuck in one place for as long as 30 minutes.

“It kind of sucks,” said Andy Johnstone, 20, of Shoreline.

He was kept waiting as police blocked traffic completely at the intersection of Highways 522 and 527 to allow a homecoming parade for Blake Lewis to pass from Main Street to the Park at Bothell Landing.

“They could have picked a better time to do this,” said Johnstone, who doesn’t watch “American Idol.”

Traffic was allowed to move again once the parade and the hundreds of fans following it crossed the busy road……

Mariners Notebook: Weaver settles for DL

IDOL WORSHIP: If you don’t think the show “American Idol” has hold of a considerable section of the American psyche, the national anthem performance Friday night might change your mind. The singer was Blake Lewis, a Bothell resident in the running as this year’s version of the show is down to three final participants.

Lewis got a mostly standing ovation when he walked onto the field wearing a Mariners jersey, and the number of people who wanted to have a picture with the local Idol was large.

For the record, Lewis’ performance was taped and may (or may not) be part of the reality show in the next week or two.

‘Idol’ mania hits home as Blake Lewis returns
Thousands turn out to hear Bothell’s native son

…At an afternoon parade and concert in Bothell, an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 people screamed, cheered and followed Bothell’s favorite son. Lewis, seated between his mother, who was wearing a Blaker Girls T-shirt, and his father, rode in a blue Mustang convertible. He blew kisses, waved and at one point stood up in the car and gave his fans a hand.

Ear-piercing shrieks followed Lewis down Main Street to Bothell Landing, where fans ignored police requests to stay back. The crowd weaved between cars stopped on Bothell Way and state Route 527. Cyclists on the Burke-Gilman Trail paused to take in the spectacle.

Everyone said they’d never seen such a huge crowd in Bothell, not even for the Fourth of July…

‘Idol’s’ Doolittle makes visit to her alma mater

Back before she was an “American Idol” finalist, Melinda Doolittle was a Belmont University mascot in Nashville, Tenn. She wore a hot, sweaty bear costume and jumped around in the name of school spirit.
The tables were turned on Doolittle Friday when she returned to her alma mater to film a segment for the hit show.
Hundreds waved signs and shouted encouragement to her: “We love you, Melinda.” “You’re going to win, Melinda.” “Doolittle’s Da Bomb.” “Melinda for President.”
The school even named a street after her, unveiling a black iron post with a blue sign that read: “Melinda Doolittle Way.”

Local ‘Idol’ not only one benefiting from exposure

One local American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s success has translated into success for one local graphic design and software development company. StarDotStar launched the Jordin Sparks fan website in February when the Glendale resident made the top 40 and since then the five-year-old company has seen their exposure sky rocket.

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Saying we were involved has opened a lot of new doors and given us the ability to spotlight what is good at the company,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Creative Director Lisa Sipe said.

The idea for the site, http://www.officialjordinsparks.com, came from the Sparks family, who StarDotStar owners Jim and Lisa Sipe are friends with. They wanted to launch a fan site that would stay true to the girl Sparks was and StarDotStar was a perfect fit considering the personal connection….

Hey! AllwaysElliott noted on yesterday’s thread that there was no top 12 Idols album this year. By George, she’s right! I hadn’t even noticed!

What happened, I wonder? Perhaps the producers didn’t think they’d make their nickle back.

  • longsong

I hope Melinda’s homecoming doesn’t pale in comparison to Blake and Jordins. She deserves better.

  • jersey

longsong – I think it’s probably because you can by mp3′s of ALL the performances this year. I’m sure they probably make more money that way. Virtually no overhead.

  • jpfan

Looks like buying the mp3s has replaced the album. However, on the album you could get the entire performance of the song and it was a souvenir of the season. I’m a little suprised they’re not putting one out. You’d think enough Idol hardcore fans would buy it and they don’t pay the artists much so it’s pretty cheap.Utter amazement at the 40K crowd that Chris pulled in Kansas. Wow. Nice to see strong hometown support for the Final 3.

In other news….something is happening behind the scenes at RCA….Kelly has a new release date:

    http://music.aol.com/popeater/2007/05/11/kelly-clarksons-new-album-coming-sooner/

Kelly’s album release date was pulled forward to June 26th (was July 24th).

Kelly has also been confirmed as being on the Idol finale on May 23rd. Have we heard about any other “stars” that will be there?

  • cheese

I think it was a good idea for them to move up Kelly’s release date – nice if people get to hear the CD before the tour starts. I just got awesome seats for Kelly’s DC show and carp seats for the White Stripes DC show. I wish I could switch those two, but, eh, Kelly will be my daughter’s first “real” concert. (I don’t count being dragged with grandma to Clay’s Jukebox tour *shudder*)

Has anyone actually seen Taylor’s appearance at the finale confirmed in writing yet? I won’t believe it until I see it.

Blake’s National Anthem was decent. He would make a very odd looking baseball player.

I am glad that Kelly has turned around and embraced American Idol again. She was running away during her sophomore album and she now has come to a place where she is comfortable going back on the show. She appears to just be comfortable in her own skin whether it is to accept the “original American Idol” tag and/or to fight for the album she wants. Very refreshing.

I think even if she is on promotion for her next album, if she didn’t want to be on AI, she wouldn’t have been. I think she is in a good place.

Not a fan of her new song but the video is BRILLIANT!

  • Stefunny

Once again, the mere mention of Daughtry’s name brings the fangs out. Still…he is a success, like it or not. And festivals/rodeos/you name it bring headliners to those things for a reason…to draw more crowds than might otherwise come. Nothing wrong with it. If Taylor or another Idol headlined a festival that drew 40K people, I doubt it would parsed down at MJs as “40K people came but only 5000 were there to see Taylor.”

As for AI6…here’s hoping Melinda compares very favorably with Whitney and can stop the proverbial bus of doom in its path.

  • rher

Thanks for the Blake anthem link radname. I was wondering what he would sound like. Not too shabby, and better than I expected.

  • Ladybug

I will say, once again, kudos to Daughtry. It does not matter what the occasion or the entrance fee, 40,000 is 40,000. ‘Nuff said.

I, once again, :surrender_tb: to Chris D. He may end up being the biggest Idol “champ” of them all.

Nice homecomings for Jordin and especially Blake. Melinda = :confused_wp: I like her a lot.

According to this article, Melinda’s homecoming turnout was in the “thousands”.

    http://www.dicksonherald.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070511/ENTERTAINMENT06/70511019

Though predictable on the show, I’d be interested to hear what Melinda’s CD will sound like. At any rate, I am hoping she will give the Nashville soul scene a much needed boost.

I couldn’t stand Daughtry on AI5 (too much competition for Taylor and did not like the goat-like vibrato), but I am glad for his success. The post-grunge scene is still wildly popular, so of course the PTB are going to be riding that wave. Honestly, even if I’d never heard of American Idol and just happened to hear Daughtry’s “What I Want” or “Crashed” on my rock radio, I would’ve gone out and bought it. In listening to those songs, all I hear is just some great rock music, not Nickelbackish at all, with a powerful rock vocal delivery. FWIW, I dug Nickelback in the early days, before they were mainstream, but could never stomach the music of Creed, Fuel or Live.

    Just another music lover’s opinion.

Welcome back Squishy. I kind of missed your daily DAUGHTRY devotional posts.

I wish I had known about Dave White last year when I really watched the show. Anybody know how/where I can find those recaps??? I do remember the “I’m Taylor F’ing Hicks” and ugly shirts bit from GC’s…but would love to read them all. Anybody have them saved?

I’m not a Melinda fan (nor a Jordin fan…I’m a semi-Blake fan because at least you find yourself wondering how he will do, because with the other two, you don’t have wonder…it always sounds the same)…but anyway, maybe Melinda’s homecoming crowd suffered from another big happening in town this weekend. The Iroquois Steeplechase, which is kinda like the Kentucky Derby, but held in a field outside of ritzy Belle Meade. The people who could have shown up for Melinda were all out shopping for gawdy hats, having their hair highlighted and visiting spray tan booths. Horses and the chance to have your picture in the society pages?….. or Melinda Doolittle, who sounds exactly the same as the lead singer at any church here in Nashville and zero chance at a mention in the society pages? That’s probably what happened.

We were discussing the pattern for the Top 3 last evening. I had to go dig out my season 4 tape, as I couldn’t remember who sang last…

Nikki, Kimberly, Jasmine, Vonzell and Elliott all went first on Top 3 night and all were eliminated.

    The singing order was:

    Nikki
    Justin
    Kelly

    Kimberly
    Ruben
    Clay

    Jasmine
    Fantasia
    Diana

    Vonzell
    Bo
    Carrie

    Elliott
    Katharine
    Taylor

  • LB2

VFTW’s new pick is officially Blake. Here’s the blurb on the site to explain the choice.

We all know this is a woman’s season to win. And we all know Blake is far too creative to listen to what 19 Entertainment would want him to do with a record. We also know that the judges make no sense when they love Blake’s beat boxing one week and hate it the next. Because of all this, VFTW is supporting Blake Lewis, the only semi-entertaining person left on the show. He’s also the least consistent, so he could possibly throw in a little unpredictability. People either love him or hate him, but we know that most people do not want to see him outlast Melinda or Jordin. Can he get to the finals? I guess we’ll see!

I must say I knew it was coming and I like it.

  • Little Boy Blue

BTW, Is it true that Jordin Sparks won Arizona Idol ?

If so, she is extremely lucky. There was another Arizona Idol who didn’t make it to the top 12 ( just the top 24 ) in a past season.

For those who don’t remember, She was in Season 3 and her name was Suzie Vulaca.

I thought Suzie and another contestant named Lisa Leuschner should’ve made it to the top 12 that season ( but then there would be a dearth of men left in that season ).

Instead, we had weak contestants like John Stevens and Matt Rogers who made it.

  • beesims

I could just imagine Simon ripping him a new a**hole if Blake had the audacity to do “Baby Got Back” with beatboxing and booty shake as his personal choice song. It would be so awesome.

  • mississippigirl

I’m falling out over Blake & Baby Got Back….wonder how they will edit that for the show footage next week? lolol.

For the first time ever, I see some similarities between Taylor and Blake. When Taylor starts going off, making those clicking sounds and channeling other forms of music in the middle of his songs, maybe that’s his version of beatboxing. :)

I am not a Blake fan cuz I don’t think he can sing but I think as long he doesn’t do any beat boxing to “Roxanne”, he may do that song proud.

It is definitely the most interesting choice out of the 3 songs of the finalists. It would be cool if Blake dyed his hair back to blonde for the song and channeled his inner “Police”.

Squishy – I read the article posted by Lisa B at 6:00 a.m. this morning and somehow knew you would surface today! I talked to a couple of friends who attended last night’s Wichita show and they actually think more than 40,000 people attended the concert. The pictures are AMAZING – I’m speechless. WOW!

Do you have a fave this season on AI? I’m pulling for a Melinda and Blake final and will actually vote for the full 2 hours next week, something I haven’t done since Chris left last year.

  • madaboutu

LisaB………….believe it or not, I have never read any of Dave White’s stuff. Unbelievably funny, and while I was reading all the snark, I realized most of what he described was actually a little true. After finally being at a Taylor Hicks concert, and reading about Dave’s “turnaround” , now I know what I love about Taylor as compared to the others too.
Taylor did an interview the other morning on an SF radio station and he did such a good job singing three songs at 7 AM. The DJ said later what a nice, genuine guy he is. Genuine and dorky and crazy……. and oh so full of life!!!
Lastly, Dave White describes the AI shows to a T as far as the cheesiness, the fakery and the commercialism. Not that much different than the other shows on TV. Wait till Friday Night Bingo on ABC catches on!!!!!

OMG! Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just :lol_tb: ! He even shook his ass a little bit!

So, the question is, is he in on the joke, like Constantine, or does he take himself too seriously, like Ace? Let’s consult Dean! (/snark)

  • squishy

    CarlaD,

I don’t have a favorite this season but any of the 3 left will do fine. I am not a fan of Blake cuz I don’t think he can sing but I appreciate his beat boxing. He has the “hotness” factor going for him though. Jordin is beautiful and has room to grow into her own. Melinda is a pro. I kind of miss Kiki.

Next week should be interesting. Next week’s performance IMO will really help determine the eventual winnner. I suspect there will be a person who just outshines the other 2 in singing and stage presence. Don’t know who it will be for they all have their stengths and weaknesses.

In terms of the 40K, did you read the other article that came with it? I am astounded by the pictures to be honest. Sometimes one is in a bubble and just doesn’t realize what is happening. Simply Amazing!

Wait till Friday Night Bingo on ABC catches on!!!!!

That’s the new show on ABC, right? Ed Sanders, the guy hosting it, is/was one of the design team members on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (other than AI, the only other reality show I watch – a guilty pleasure that almost always makes me cry). On one of the recent episodes, he severely cut his hand on a power saw and hasn’t been on the show since. He was told that he’d have to undergo some rehab, so I figuring that’s why he hosting this new show.

Anyway, on to AI….and I’m headed to a b-day party for a friend.

DB – Thanks for the Bingo update. I just knew I had seen the host somewhere before. That youtube clip of Roxanne with Matisyahu was more reggae but I can see how some beat boxing would work with the song.

If Blake is going to win this thing or even make it to the finals he should keep the beat boxing to a minimum IMO. Maybe just beat box to one of the 3 songs. If he over does it, it may turn people off.

Mags/Giz, do you mean what time is Extreme Makeover on? Or what time is the Bingo show on? The answer to question one is 8 PM on Sunday; I don’t have an answer to question two. You may want to check the ABC website for that.

I really like the guy! I wish Ed all the success in the world, I just wish he wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t hosting a damn bingo show. I hate bingo. Grrrr.

You don’t like bingo, Carla?? O-22! O-22!! BINGO!!! ;) Anyways, Ed was one of my favorite design team members, so I miss seeing him on the show, but as you said, I do wish him success in all he does.

Coco, my Idol, I heart you. :) BTW, I’ve been meaning to ask if your son had a chance to listen to the mp3s from Taylor’s Columbus show, and if so, what he thought of them.

And if Blake is preforming “Roxanne,” I wonder if that opens the door for a future contestant to sing “Afternoon Delight.” ;)

Anyways, I really must be going now. I took full advantage of Saturday as a day to sleep-in, but to be late to a birthday party that starts in the afternoon because I slept-in is exceptionally embarrassing. Later, all. :)

Earlier in the evening, a more sedate crowd gathered downtown along Main and Douglas streetsfor the annual Sundown Parade, which festival organizers estimate attracted 75,000 people.

It’s been estimated that Taylor’s fall tour brought in somewhere between $4-5,000,000, on average, not including merchandise sales and private appearances, netting about $750,000-$1,000,000 for himself after all expenses have been paid out. Not bad for 3 months work – and he earned every penny, based on the performance I saw. A total success in every way!

    Only weekends Boulder?

Is that what I’ve been doing wrong all these years?? :lol_tb:

Why would it matter if she’s on Finale night? I don’t quite understand it, it’s not like Taylors going to be the only one on, Kelly is confirmed to be there and i’m sure there will be other stars as well. It’s not going to be a mini-Taylor concert

  • RightSaidFred

Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s fall tour brought in somewhere between $4-5,000,000, on average, not including merchandise…

Uh, I don’t think so. Does not compute. I’ll concede to any reasonable substantiation though.

11 days of handwringing here over if, when, where, before or after whom Taylor will perform on AI? Please no…just no.

Okay, I knew someone was gunna ask :) Here’s how I figure it -

Based on 60 dates, more or less, right? Average concert attendance was 1800 (about 65% sold out based on a spreadsheet over at Tay-Online.com) seats averaging $40/ticket (I paid $50, but that’s besides the point – I’m talking average).

    So………….

    1800 seats x $40/per ticket = $72,000

    $72,000 x 60 dates = $4,320,000

not counting, like I said, merchandise, which is almost pure profit and private appearances (i.e., the Yahoo gig).

radname, it doesn’t matter to me – I like Kelly – but Taylor’s been ignored for most of the season as far as mentioning he has an album – even when they had a perfect opportunity at the begining of the season to mention it and it would suck if Kelly’s appearance preempted Taylor’s. I know. I’m probably being paranoid, but I wouldn’t put it past them. [/tinfoil hat] :dunce_tb:

    Hereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s how I figure it -

Be more ambitious (and accurate) — add up the actual max tickets that could have been sold based on the 50-odd performace dates (excluding open venues such as a rodeo and Universal studios). Using your average ticket price it is more like $3.6mm. Quite a bit less than the $5mm you quoted.

Not bad for 3 months work – and he earned every penny, based on the performance I saw. A total success in every way!

In the original post net profits were discussed. I have not a clue if they are accurate but c’mon now follow along.

griz, Des and em………….don’t forget the other gigs, for which he gets at least $150,000. Orange Bowl, Endymion and Yahoo. Then he has another private one before his summer tour (with Limbo) and that is another $150,000. The Niagara Wine Auction is $1,000 a weekend package. (not sure what his pay is but at least the $150,000 he is presently being paid.) Of course the band figures in all of this too, but still not bad for an hour or hour and a half work. Then there is the Leno appearance. I presume they get scale at least for all of their TV appearances, but not sure about that. Anyway, I hope after taxes he is able to sock some away. He has that advance from the book……but that has to be watched closely as it may not sell what is given. Still..

I think it will, it will be the first time Kellys been on the AI stage since the finale of season one

Since Nevada threw herself on a land mine (COME BACK NV!), I will correct this faulty statement.

THIS IS NOT TRUE. Kelly was back on season 2 (in fact, received an RIAA certification on the show, IIRC, and sang “Miss Independent” as well as a song with Ruben and Clay), and also back on season 3 to sing “Beautiful Disaster” and also sang “The Impossible Dream” with Fantasia, Diana, AND Ruben.

Details, details. Of course, it sounds better to say that she hasn’t been back since she won, even though it is NOT TRUE.

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

I actually really like “Never Again”. I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album.

It seems like she uses songwriting to get out the angst from being burned by the men in her past… Which is great, because it provides some great breakup anthems (hello, “Since U Been Gone”, “Behind These Hazel Eyes”, and “Walk Away”). I can’t tell you how many times I played the full “Breakaway” album after the last BF and I broke up. “Never Again” just continues that theme… me likey. Regardless of whether you like it or not, it resonates.

I love angry chick music. Heh. ETA: That’s a big surprise, eh? ;)

  • squishy

I was surprised about Kelly’s accent as well in that clip. On VH-1 today, her accent wasn’t that thick.

I think that it is good that even though TPTB don’t like Kelly’s album they are still making sure that it is as successful as it can be with all her TV appearances and expensive video.

Maybe Kelly will have a “told ya so” moment with Clive.

Me personally I don’t like the song but I think that the video is brilliant. It may do well. I bought her sophomore album. I won’t buy “My December” based upon “Never Again”. If the 2nd single is good than I will buy it.

  • LoveRollercoaster

I don’t really care about the numbers one way or the other. I care about words like “it was estimated” etc. with no backup. It leads to people believing things that just aren’t true.

Has it been discussed in recent days past what Howard Stern’s team has dug up on AI? If so, can someone point me to the posts? I am just now reading about it and find it truly interesting.

  • radname

What Howard dug up about AI is that LaKisha was going to be kicked off based on the fact that they were setting up for her return home and getting the “face reactions of community”. I guess they don’t know that they were setting up for all of them to be going home since it’s top 3.

  • Lisa

Well, I was talking about this part…

In fact the email received claiming Lakisha would be à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“voted offà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ this week is time stamped early Tuesday evening. The source citing alleged travel documents for a press tour prepared for Lakisha Jones before the voting and a remote TV crew allegedly dispatched to Jonesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ hometown, for reaction before she was even à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“voted off.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Our source claiming no such arrangements of the same extent were made for the other three Idol contestants.

Looking at it from a different view: They could have been going by the votes in the past few weeks, and knew her votes where not close to the other 3.

  • RightSaidFred

I am always interested in what various tours gross, attendance, and the costs involved in pulling off a tour. However, that is (for me) a completely different matter than speculating what the personal earnings of a particular entertainer are. With few exceptions it is a boring and tacky discussion. Unless you are their manager…

  • Linny

I love me some Kelly, but the new song hasn’t grown on me yet. Kelly is a screamer, always has been. But there isn’t really a TUNE in this song. I think it will sell, though. There are fans that love that part of her music. I, personally, love to hear her sweet singing voice. As for the so-called dispute with Clive — ever think it’s a brilliant marketing tool??

  • griz

If Chris D. can pull off a screaming career, surely Kelly can too. It very well might have been a good marketing idea. Time will tell if it works.

As far as it’s commercial appeal, never underestimate what the mass market will like – crappy songs sell millions these days. What can ya do, ya know?

RSF – I find the subject very interesting, myself – neither tacky or boring, but it’s probably better placed on other boards, where everyone is interested.

  • Lisa B

  • beachn

Kelly has been marketed to her fans. It’s time
to see who Kelly really is. I followed and rewatch
her AI performances. I try to catch every appearance on TV
and watch as she transforms from rocker chic to soul sister to a country natural. I’m anxiously waiting for Kelly’s sound to mature
and bring it all together. She has had phenomenal marketing and
success and the fan base is there. I hope this cd is the one.
If not this cd, I’ll wait again because I know she is a
phenomenal talent that we have only seen begin to blossom.

  • radname

I think Kelly is really diverse in her singing ability, i’m not really a huge Kelly fan as in I don’t follow her obsessively or save every picture of her but I love her voice and think she has a lot of talent, it just seems sometimes she isn’t singing correctly and is wrecking her voice because of it.

  • Nevada

So here are some numbers for Taylor.

According to what I believe was his “official” tour schedule, Taylor ended up with 54 dates at 50 venues, with 6 in February, 20 in March, 20 in April, and 8 in May, ending tonight with a concert at the Moore Theatre in Seattle (which Kirsten is attending).

Of these 54 dates, Billboard Boxscore has so far reported receipts for only 9 concerts, or roughly 16% of total concerts.

The capacity — meaning tickets available — for those 9 concerts was 16,440. According to Billboard Boxscore, 14,360 tickets were sold, or roughly 87% of tickets available. The total capacity for all 54 concerts was 109,847.

Receipts for those 9 concerts were reported as $497,696, which yields an average ticket price of $34.65 for these particular dates, as well as an average of $55,299.55 per date.

However, only a mad fool extrapolator would apply that per date average to the remaining, so-far-unreported dates on the tour, given that the size of the venues varies from a low of 300 (Ameristar Casino, St. Charles, MO) to a reported high of 15,000 (Universal: Orlando Mardi Gras 2007).

Ticket prices ran from a low of $15 (Lifestyle Communities Pavilion Columbus, OH; 04-24-07) to a high of $80 (Ameristar Casino, Star Pavilion Kansas City, MO; 04-26-07 & 04-27-07).

My suggestion: wait until Boxscore or PollStar reports total receipts and attendance for Taylor’s tour.

  • Abilymom

I don’t particularly like or hate Kelly’s new song. But there is no “hook” in it to draw me in, so when it comes on the radio, it’s just background music.

  • xoxoyc

Kelly’s single is actually really struggling right now- I thought for sure it would go top 10 on her name alone but now I’m not so sure.

    I actually really like à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Never Againà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t wait to hear the rest of the album.

It seems like she uses songwriting to get out the angst from being burned by the men in her pastà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ Which is great, because it provides some great breakup anthems (hello, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Since U Been Goneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Behind These Hazel Eyesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Walk Awayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ).

Kelly did not write any part of Since U Been Gone.

She was one of 3 writers on Behind These Hazel Eyes

She was one of 4 writers on Walk Away.

She talks about writing so much it seems like she wrote them all but she didn’t. Look them all up on ASCAP. I can’t wait to see how many co-writers there are on Never Again.

  • Nevada

I believe in a thing called serendipity…in one of those odd coincidences in life, it appears that Billboard Boxscore has so far reported receipts for 9 (or roughly 20%) of little d’s à ¢’ž ¢ concerts!

According to what I believe was his à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“officialà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ tour schedule, little d à ¢’ž ¢ ended up with something like 44 dates, with 2 in January, 18 in February, 13 in March, and 11 in April.

The capacity à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ meaning tickets available à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ for those 9 concerts was 8,389. According to Billboard Boxscore, 8,369 tickets were sold, or roughly 99% of tickets available; there were 20 unsold tickets for the 02-06-07 performance at Neumo’s in Seattle. If only Michelle Pfeiffer had hopped on a plane, she might have been saved the indignity of not being famous enough to be comped for a performance by little d à ¢’ž ¢ and the Spice Boys!

Anyway, since quite a few of these performances took place in small venues which don’t always report receipts to Boxscore, I cannot estimate the total capacity for all 44 concerts.

Receipts for those 9 concerts were reported as $160,589 which yields an average ticket price of $19.18 for these particular dates, as well as an average of $17,843.22 per date.

Once again, only a mad fool extrapolator would apply that per date average to the remaining, so-far-unreported dates on the tour, given that the size of the venues has not been determined.

My suggestion: wait until Boxscore or PollStar reports total receipts and attendance for little dà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢’ž ¢ tour.

She talks about writing so much it seems like she wrote them all but she didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t. Look them all up on ASCAP. I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t wait to see how many co-writers there are on Never Again.

Oh, I’m sorry. Please excuse me for not recognizing that. I happen to know exactly how many writers there are on every song, since I own the cd and am one of the nerds who reads the liner notes from cover to cover. But thanks for the information.

Please take “Since U Been Gone” out of the equation, since she didn’t write it.
