One Direction Sign Three Year Sony Contract

The boys are bonded together for the next three years.

The Sun is reporting that One Direction boys signed a new contract with Sony.

A source close to the band told me: “It’s a really clever contract that the boys have signed up to. It means they have a real incentive to tough it out and stick together.

“The formal length is for 36 months and an album a year — but the clever part is they get the big pay day after the three years.

“If one of them walks away before then, then all five miss out on the money.

“They don’t miss out on a few quid either, we are talking millions.

“They all get on really well, but it would be the kind of deal that would see them through the worst aggro possible.”

One Direction is Sony’s golden goose! Or goldmine.

Their record label, Sony, have a massive interest in keeping the golden goose happy, too.

The band’s global success has helped Sony Music UK to pre-tax profits up 128 per cent on last year. Sales of the group’s smash-hit second album are not even included in that.

So, is 1D album #3 in November 2013 a possiblity? Liam and Louis flew to Stockholm last Friday. They only stayed there for 3 hours. They reportedly met with One Direction’s main songwriting team. I guess their team can put together the next album while the boys tour the world.

    I was *so* worried!

“One Direction is Sony’s golden goose! Or goldmine.”

    Or Golden Handcuffs.

Interesting that the particular lineup is so important.  Usually they can change out the members of a boyband or girlband and still maintain success, so long as the lead is not changed.  Maybe that’s how the new boy/girl-band era works – that there is no true lead, but that each one gets a certain unsubstitutable persona and his own fanbase.

It’s probably because any of them can walk away to do a solo career or go into acting and become successful. But together, they are worth much much more.

Wonder which one or ones they are concerned about breaking free.  My money is on Zayn.

  • iluvai

    This is good news.  ;)

  • iluvai

    My guess is Liam.

The real question is did the 1D fans break Beiber’s views for a debut video. lol…

  • Reflects On Life

Agreed.  Listening to the kids standing in line at my kids’ middle school cafeteria, the tweeners aren’t really into Zayn either.  He’s a lil too hot & bada$$ (he smokes, lol), not cute and sweet enough.  Plus he seems to be more r&b than the others.  In the 90s, if 1D were the Backstreet Boys, Zayn woulda been ‘NSync.

We’re hosting a foreign exchange student from Japan’s remote mountain country.  Driving her home from the airport, we played her some Top 40 on the radio.  She didn’t recognize Gaga, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Beyonce, K3$ha, Bruno, Pitbull, not even Psy.  Then “You Don’t Know You’re Beautiful” came on the radio, and she immediately shrieked “1D! 1D!”.

Simon’s attempt at world domination has clearly been a success.

He’s like the boy your parents wish you had never met but that gave you memories that 25 years later still make you blush. He is the quintestinal bad boy.

  • Nedsdag

From seeing him interviewed, he’s the exact opposite. It doesn’t help that he smokes, but he’s anything but the quintessential bad boy.

    Harry on the other hand………
