Nicki Minaj Takes a Shot at Mariah Carey in Song “I’m Quick to Check a Bitch”

Nicki Minaj insists that things are cool on the American Idol set after she feuded with fellow judge, Mariah Carey. But, in addition to highlighting the battle on her E! Reality show, Nicki has also shared her feelings about the incident in the song “Hell Yeah” from her recent CD Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded the Re-Up.  Check snips of the lyrics from E Online:

“But you’re boring as f–k, though./Why these bitches in the game so cutthroat?/Why they can’t just let young Nicki live?/Why they gotta feel the wrath to know Nicki is?”

“Not playin, boss for real/When they go against the kid it’s gon’ cost for real/Came straight from the hood with the cross appeal/That’s why these big names wanna toss the deal.”

“I’ll take it, sign on the dotted line/But I’m quick to the check a bitch if she outta line. Shout out Mike Darnell and Nigel/Why these bums so mad that the queen on Idol, huh?”

Hm. What do you think? Time to let it go? Do you believe Nicki and Mariah have put the battle behind them? Or do you expect more fireworks when the live shows begin?

Haha. I love Nicki’s in-your-face attitude. The song was probably recorded soon after the feud + before she said things were “fine” between them. Who knows if they really are or not.

  • GinaBallerina

Team MARIAH.  Always.  Even with all of her “boring” awards like Artist of the Decade (90s) and, soon after, Artist of the Millennium (yes, really).  Nicki is fighting a losing battle.

  • fantoo1

Yeah I’m guessing it was recorded when the feud was happening.

  • GinaBallerina

Team MARIAH.  Always.  Even with all of her “boring” awards like Artist of the Decade (90s) and, soon after, Artist of the Millennium (yes).  There is only one “queen” of Idol and Nicki isn’t it.  She’s fighting a losing battle.

  • Incipit

SO bored with their nonsense. Enough already.

C’mon, Nigel  - start pimping the contestants! Give us some teasers and highly inappropriate pushing of somebody who won’t win, like you usually do. – that Faux Feud is getting old.

  • fantoo1

This isn’t Nigel’s or idol’s fault. They didn’t release the song or release it to TMZ. This is all Nicki and her labels doing, not idol. Idol has no control over what she releases or writes.

  • Incipit

Yeah, I know, fantoo1. I want Nigel to talk about something else, like the show? and give TMZ a different story to push. He usually has no problem with that.

Ugh, silly little child gonna be a has been while Mariah bathes in the dross and fumes of her former relevance. It might almost be sad to see her in 5 years. So Mariah is the one keeping this going?! I am beginning to wonder who is the bully or the intimidated one.

  • Junior82165

She comes across like a petulant child.

I love Nicki. About time someone puts boring Mariah in her place. Always hated her.

  • DaisyMagnolia

Mariah is a Norma Desmond wannabe and Nicki can be a brat.  Neither is in the right and need to take some chill pills.

So over this feud!  Poor Keith!

  • voicesinmyhead

If only their brains were as big as their butts because there wouldn’t be any catfights.

  • OffLeash

    You didn’t just say that!

  • standtotheright

Sigh. Beef tracks may be a grand tradition, but so is plausible deniability.

Mariah is an icon and one of the greatest singers ever, but everyone knows Mariah is a grade A bitch. Only her lambs are in denial.

It’s pretty common for rappers to diss others in their lyrics (e.g. Eminem is probably one of the most famous examples). It’s part of the art! LOL. Even if Nicki has gotten over the feud, I just can’t see her passing up the opportunity to use the material in a rap. Taylor Swift has made a fortune writing about ex-boyfriends and people who criticize her. The obvious difference is the explicit lyrics. If someone has a problem with explicit lyrics (which I completely respect), then almost every Nicki Minaj song will be offensive, regardless of the topic.

On a sidenote: The majority of the rap is not about Mariah Carey. The entire first verse is about other rappers who are jealous of her success and crossover appeal (another favorite topic in rap). For example, it starts off:

“I ain’t seen you on the Forbes yet
Swear to god, I ain’t seen you in the stores yet”

She is definitely not talking about Mariah, who’s made the Forbes list way more times than Nicki! That line was a diss to her “haters” in the rap world who didn’t make the Forbes list for top rap artists (Nicki was in the top ten).

The second verse refers partially to Mariah, but it’s also about other artists who didn’t think she was good enough to be on idol and are jealous that she got a “shout out” from Nigel and other idol producers. On a more positive note, it looks like she put more effort into these lyrics than that awful “stupid ho” rap aobut ‘lil Kim!

I love Mariah and can only tolerate Nicki in glimpses, but I will say this, I hope Mariah is a much better judge than she is a performer.

While she may have one of the best voices of all time, sitting through one of her shows is a chore and something that I will never pay my money to do again. I prefer to just listen to her music via CD than to watch her ease her way across the stage in shoes that she can’t walk in and trying to hit notes that are no longer within reach.

Insulting someone’s physical appearance is also pretty catty, IMO.

  • OffLeash

Especially when it made fun of both their physical appearance and their mental capacity.

What a trash. Is it too late to get a new judges? I wote for Kelly C. and Babyface or Pharrell. There is also Sheryl Crow, Adam L. and I could go on…

  • GinaBallerina

“Mariah is an icon and one of the greatest singers ever, but everyone knows Mariah is a grade A bitch. Only her lambs are in denial.”

Wow, have you met her?  I never have but I’ve been following her career for close to 20 years now and she seems to be of great character to me.  Even Nicki had nice things to say about Mariah before and after the feud.  Of course I know we can never be sure what goes on outside of the public eye, it just seems to me that any woman who is attractive and successful and rich always get accused of being a “bitch.”  If you have specific examples I would be interested in reading them.

I really hope they drop her after this.  It’s ridiculous.  I’m pretty much decided not to watch this year.

It was very clever how she made “line” ryhme with “line.”

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

Ugh. This woman has zero class.

  • revcat

After a beer or two I could come up with drivel like this. No talent, no class and yet she is a superstar. Thank goodness for DVR, that is the only saving grace for me and Idol this season.

  • blackberryharvest

I think if you look past the judges, you will like it. It is about the contestants, first and foremost.

  • http://www.celebritybug.net/ Amanda (Celebrity Bug)

Actually, Gina I have met her… Twice! All I will say about those two meetings is that they turned me from being a lamb into just being a fan of her talent as a singer and songwriter.

Aside from that, this is not the first time Mariah has had trouble getting along with females in the industry and her reputation is far from being one of the best in the industry. Not that Nicki’s is either, but I just do not believe Nicki went off on Mariah for no reason at all.
