Nashville Predators Acquire Carrie Underwood’s Husband Mike Fisher From Ottawa Senators

Aw. Awesome! Carrie Underwood and her husband Mike Fisher will be living in Nashville year round! No more cold winters for Carrie!

The Nashville Predators hockey team has acquired Carrie’s husband Mike Fisher from the Ottawa Senators. From the Predator’s Official Site:

Nashville, Tenn. (February 10, 2011) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has acquired center Mike Fisher from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Nashville’s first-round pick in the 2011 Entry Draft and a conditional pick in the 2012 Draft. The conditional pick is Nashville’s third-round selection if the Predators win one round in the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs, and turns into a second-rounder in 2012 if the team wins two-or-more rounds.

“We were seeking a top-six forward and Mike Fisher was the player we set our sights on,” Poile said. “He plays playoff-style hockey all season long. He plays on the power play, kills penalties, is strong on draws and can match up against any opposing line.”

Carrie, who has been living and working in Nashville since her Idol win in 2005 must be doing the happy dance!

UPDATE: Carrie releases a statement on her husband leaving the Senators:

“We will both truly miss Ottawa,” Underwood said in a statement Thursday. “Mike has been such a big part of the community, and I will never forget how they welcomed me with open arms. We obviously love Nashville, and the teams’ decision for him to now play with the Predators is an exciting opportunity for Mike. I support him wherever he plays!”

Yeah another Canadian leaves us once more. Sigh, poor Canada :) (yeah, i’m a canuck)

I don’t know the NHL enough to say that, but it definetly looks like this trade had something to do with Mike Fisher wanting to please his wife, good for them

Well, it may not be as frigid as Canada, but Nashville isn’t warm all winter. This year has seen several snowfalls, with 4-6 inches more falling over Nashville just last night.

Yeah, definitely. First time I went to Nashville I was completely shocked how cold (verging on frigid) it was. Brrrr, especially with that wind effect you often get in city downtown areas.

I tend to think of Tennessee as a southern state, but it really doesn’t enjoy a mild winter. Last time I was in Nashville, in December, I wound up sucking down hot coffee and whatever else I could find that was warm–just to defrost before the show I was seeing that evening. (Rascal Flatts and Danny at a Christmas Opry show)

Great news for both Mike and Carrie. It will be so much easier with them based in the same town. They’ll still travel a lot, but this way they’ll see each other a lot more.

Bonus for Mike: The Senators have been cellar dwellers all season. They are second last in their conference and 3rd last in the league. Their chances of making the play-offs are slim. Meanwhile, Nashville is 5th in their conference with a good chance of making the play-off. He’s being added to the team is their attempt to improve those chances. Always a nice reason to be traded. Congratulations Carrie !
That girl has everything going for her. Good for her.

Wow! I’m actually a little surprised. They JUST built a house in Ottawa and moved in in November.

Mike’s played his whole career as an Ottawa Senator. I really don’t think he wanted to leave Ottawa, he’s a huge community guy there. But being traded to Nashville will soften that blow. They’ve already got a home there and Mike has friends there. I’m reading press tweets and apparently his teammates are quite sad about it.

Mike’s 1st game as a Nashville Predator is Saturday. And Mike Fisher is trending on Twitter.

Good move by the Preds; the Western Conference is so bunched up, one bad week and you go from playoffs to an early off season. Nashville is considered on the upswing, unlike Ottawa who seemed to have peaked in recent seasons.

That’s great news for Carrie. Hope the move is a good one for Mike.

Just because he was traded doesn’t mean they will live in Nashville year-round. He is Canadian, they just built a house — I would guess they will continue to split time between Nashville and Canada.

What the trade means is that he will be in Nashville during the majority of the NHL season, which is nice for him and Carrie

I know deep down in their hearts, Carrie & Mike have had mix-feeling for Mike’s trade to Predators. Well, I wish all the best for them.

I think it was the second time lots of the Sens women fans broken hearted, First Mike married and second this trade. Many of the fans accepted it and wish Mike well but there are some Ottawa people blame Carrie for this trade LOL (even a radio station ban Carrie music because of that.. ..What ?#@!?!)

Mike posted a statement in his website:
Mike admits he was as surprised as anyone upon learning of the trade that would make him a Nashville Predator, and he also said that Carrie really sad when she heard the news that she blamed for playing a part in the trade.
