Has anyone tried to donate to Idol online? I just failed and I’m not trying again. I kept trying to get to the United States as country and Visa as the card. Finally got there and pressed the submit button and got a Microsoft VB script error code. They should have a way to send the money in, because if the site is not setup to collect online payments a lot of people will be discouraged. Not only that they should use Paypal as a payment service, because PP is very reliable with transferring money.

Well, MJ’s star seems to be rising for the judges, whereas Jason’s depimping has started. I think anything could change on a dime. Cookie and Archie seem to be locks on top 3, but I would have said the same for Daughtry in Season 5.

I just checked the scaries and Jason is in the lead, followed by Archie and Cookie. My worry for Jason is that he’s not picking up casual viewing votes.

The diverse AI audience usually ensures a diverse Top 3. I’d be surprised if we ended up with an all male Top 3, though it would be nice.

Well yeah, me too. But I think the thing with Chris is that he started coasting, phoning in his performances toward the end of his run. True, Michael did that early instead of late, but I think he lost some of his voting fanbase at a critical time in the semi’s and early finals with a string of lackluster performances (he lost me at least).

But that said, it all depends on performances. I think only the David’s could possibly afford a mediocre week at this point. And the way someone different is delivering a great, standout performance every week, it’s been really tough to predict who’s going to end up in the top 3.

ETA: But I do have to say, I’ve been wrong about stuff before.

Maracaibo, I still think it’s up to the viewers. I want a David v. David finale, but it could easily be David C, and Michael. This season has been so full of twists and turns that to me Michael has as good a shot as any. David C could get self indulgent, and there are some weird themes coming up. David A could have a daddy dearest meltdown, Carly could get tat poisoning, Brooke could have a nervous breakdown, you get the drill. The game is only in the 5th inning or so. Don’t lose heart. I happen to like Michael and will purchase his cd, and he will have one!

Yeah, I think so. I remember Simon saying early on that he thought people would like and vote for Taylor, Kellie, and Chris in season 5, and he made the infamous “not only win, but outsell every other winner” on the actual show during top 11 week with Carrie. Last season, I think they were calling a Jordin/Blake/Melinda finale pretty early too.

ETA: Randy confirmed that he’s an idiot loooooong ago, for me. The Useless One, dawg.

Randy can sign KLC, but, I’d rather buy a Jason CD. Wouldn’t touch one by her, not even for a doorstop. She isn’t anything special. Just run-of-the-mill country. And, I do like some country music, but, not with her holding the mike. Season 5 didn’t get it wrong. I think there’s more to this story than is being told. Hopefully, someday we will know the truth, the whole truth, and, nothing but the truth.

I just cant say “poor Michael” after watching that because compared to some of the others he got very favorable comments. Saying they prefer a certain style isn’t a terrible thing (and I happen to agree with them). “Poor Jason” is probably more like it because thtat was one of the worst examples of depimping I’ve ever seen out of those three.

Considering that Randy’s first project of his own sold approx 13,000 the first week and approx 6,500 the second week, I really don’t want him within 500 miles of Jason. Whatever Randy had in the past seems to be going or gone.

On Randy’s CD, he had everyone belting. There are no songs with subtle nuances. He just does not understand that form of singing. Too bad Randy can’t see beyond the Mariah and rockstar types of singing.

Very true, Trina. I do feel bad for Jason. The way the stooges are handling this, he’s going to be crucified if he lasts longer than like 2 or 3 more weeks, and I prefer his voice and style to about 4 or 5 of the other competitors. Yeah, same here. It was definitely his breakout moment when he did that Queen medley, but I thought he sounded at least twice as good with the bluesy-soul sound last week. I’m hoping to hear more of that from him.

Regarding the Top 3, it seems almost cemented at this point that the two Davids are going to be in it and possibly have a huge pop vs. rock showdown at the finale, but things could always change. I think MJ’s got a pretty good shot at cracking the Top 3, though. Carly’s next in line for that, but I don’t think she gets anywhere near as many casual votes as MJ does.

Yeah, he doesn’t have a lot of charisma. That’s what my musician friend who came over last night said. LOL. I made him watch my recordings. Poor guy.

Anyway, he did think MJ had a lot of talent and he respected what he tried to do with “A Day in The Life”. He didn’t like David Cook (he’s extra tough and snobby about rockers… he hated Daughtry). He thought Jason has a lot of charisma, but wasn’t 100% sold on him, but loved Hallelujah. He hated KLC and thought Carly was trying to be Celine and Brooke needed to loosen up.

His opinion probably mean less than regular watchers/voters, but interesting all the same.

Here’s what I remember of their rundown:

David C. – Amazingly talented, real shot at winning. Simon said he’s the one he would choose to listen to, his favorite.

Carly – Amazing voice, they’re not sure she knows who she is, sometimes makes bad song choices

Michael – Very talented. They prefer him doing the blue-eyed soul bluesy stuff, and not so much the rock stuff. Much love for his latest performance.

Brooke – Simon thought she was boring the last two weeks, only likes her doing the folky stuff, she can’t do anything else. Can make top 3 with the right song choices.

David A. – ZOMG! A singing Savant. The one to beat. Randy said he’s not sure he knows who he is and Pauler disagreed. Simon thinks the teens and grannies will pick him ftw.

Jason – Got some love from Pauler, Randy said no shot at winning. They praised his Hallelujah performance, but think maybe it was the song that was so magical.

Kristy Lee – They seemed to agree that she’s not even that good at country, yet Randy would sign her over Jason, wtf? Paula did stick up for Jason more.

Syesha – They agreed that she’s a “singing actress” suited for theater.

Earlier in the show, they seemed to think more of them would be signed compared to last year, as many as 5 or 6. They predicted a David-David finale.

They did seem like they were being honest in their opinions, although I agree it’s a bit early to be predicting the final 2. Oh, and Simon hates Taylor and Kat.

But it’s too soon for Jason to go. We can’t split the roomies up just yet. That would really suck. I love them!

I don’t get the Jason de-pimping of late, especially last week. I can’t believe they’d think he’s a threat and he’s making money on iTunes so why. I’m really worried about him tomorrow. He’s sliding fast. Even the media has turned on him.

I’ve rewatched Travelin’ Thru more times than I can count. It’s my second favorite right after Hallelujah. And the ITunes is swweeeet. I can’t stop listening to it. I love all of Jason’s iTunes except for Michele (he sounds fine but the background music is too weird & ruins it for me).

And although I loved MJ last week, the Itunes download was disappointing. I thought the live performance was oodles better. I can’t stop listening to that one either.

I’m hoping one of the girls goes this week. I don’t care which one.

I laughed when Simon refused to agree that this was the most talented Top 12 ever and forgot Kat’s name. Pretty enjoyable all around.

I think the itunes thing is overrated. The sales are affected by the songs they choose as much as their performance. I think Blake was the big leader on iTunes Season 6 and that hasn’t worked out as expected. It does give you a sense of who won the week though. That’s about it.

The fact that DCook’s song has already leaked has make me even more excited to see how he performs it. I am looking forward to see if he gives it his own twist on the song. I think he could do very well considering the lyrics mentions cancer, which is a an issue close to his heart.

There are some youtube videos of Raine Maida singing the song solo, slowed down and acoustic, and it’s beautiful. I feel better about it than I did (plus I personally loved the song the first time that I heard it)

It’s a good way for David to suck up to his idol, too. Maybe Raine will work with him in the future if he likes what he hears.

Most of all, I’m thrilled that I don’t have to hit refresh 12324 times tomorrow waiting for DC’s song spoiler. Yay.

Cheese- I missed that version on youtube. I only watched the regular version from their album. Ohhhhh I have to go take a listen. Just think Daughtry got to sing with his Idols in the finale, could lightening strike twice??? I have listened to that song several times tonight and really really like it. But I am still trying to wrap my brain around that version being the one he chooses for tomorrow. Hell he has proven us wrong before, so what the hell do I know??

Yeah, DCook’s song this week is definitely an obscure choice, but after I freaked out over both “Hello” and “Billie Jean” and he proved me completely wrong in my worry, I can’t make myself nervous over this. I think he knows what he’s doing, indulgent or not.

Man, I really HATE when the judges and producers give their opinions like that. Their words can really affect the contest, both the contestants and potential voters alike. So unprofessional. Stop it.

Jason’s defintely not going anywhere this week now. LOL. But really anything is possible, to me no one is REALLY safe except the Davids and possibly Michael. It’s all about how good they are on stage, since this may be a big casual viewer week.

@cheese: Homg, I just might drop dead if Cookie did that acoustic version. I’ve been waiting for forever to get a straight-up acoustic from him (the ENTIRE way through, not just part of it), and…agh. I’m so anxious now. I’m going to wish and wish he’s going to do that version (save the backup singers; their voices are going to clash). Interesting. Wiki tells me that he and his wife worked on “Walk Away,” and “Where is Your Heart” as well as “One Minute” on My December. They wrote Eva Avila’s CI coronation song, and the theme song and single for Jason Castro’s Cheyenne. Maybe he entered the Idol songwriting competition this year

Poporange, as far as I know, this is still a blog about American Idol, in general. This particular thread includes a picture of all the remaining guys on AI7, so I guess I just thought that discussion of them was fair game here.

Just because some people at this site may like particular contestants does not make it a David Cook or Jason Castro or Michael Johns or whoever fansite. I personally am obviously going to talk about the ones I like, not the ones I have no interest in.

ETA: No, it does not make David’s brother’s situation more important or difficult because David is on national tv. It’s not even national knowledge because David has not chosen to make this part of his backstory. I realize that other people suffer from cancer; I’ve had family members, extended and immediate, who have. I don’t think anyone is trying to make an “excuse” or whatever for him.

Are you referring to someone mentioning that the lyrics in the song he’s singing tomorrow night reference cancer? The theme is “inspirational songs”, and that’s just likely a part of why the song was inspirational to him. I’d imagine that it’s inspirational to others, as well.

I’m sure I don’t need to remind the Yaminions here about how Simon went on late night TV before AI5 top 3 night and said Elliott was a nice guy but would never win. Now Randy and Simon are essentially doing the same thing to Jason, who is a sensitive soul and seems especially vulnerable to their mind games.

Aside from deflating the contestants and their fan bases, which might well be their intention, and revealing an arrogant disregard for both, what exactly does their unnecessary badmouthing accomplish — give them the rare opportunity to say “I told you so”? We all remember what happened to their “inevitable” and “unbeatable” favorites Tamyra Gray, LaToya London, Chris Daughtry, and Melinda Doolittle.

Such blatant jury tampering taints the contest and fuels cynicism about the whole endeavor, including Idol Gives Back, with the producers’ implicit approval, no less! That is just gobsmackingly dumb.

This week Tom Jicha published some interesting suggestions to improve American Idol. I have one of my own — replace the useless Randy and the embarrassing Paula with some independent thinkers. I think Clay would be a great judge with special empathy for the contestants. Mark McGrath has an encyclopedic knowledge of popular music and would balance Simon’s appalling lack thereof.

thanks for the scans. I always wondered what the AC on his guitar was for and seeing it on the tatoo makes it obvious it is for his brother. I like the little things he does to show his support for his brother without making it a part of his story. And I never got the orange bracelet until someone else pointed it out that it was for a child who was sick. He doesn’t make these into issues but it shows me what type of a person he is and I like that. I didn’t start as a Cookie fan but he had me with “Hello”. I’ve been a cookster ever since. Of course, I like others such as Jason, Carly, and sometimes MJ and Little David. I like to appreciate them all but end up really pulling for one eventually. This year is more like Season 5 for me when I liked Daughtry, Bucky, Taylor, Elliott, and Ace. Last year was kind of indifferent for me. I didn’t think I would ever vote again-but i’m back

I agree, the timing of the Larry King show was such a faux pas. It’s nice to maybe talk about IGB and if asked about this year, maybe talk about some of the performances but to talk about who they think will win and who they don’t like is a disservice, imo. I’ll be throwing some votes to Jason just for the under the bus throwing. Besides the fact that I like his style. Not everyone has to be the same.

I don’t see it as a disservice. The judges aren’t voting, the public is.
It makes no difference what they think, as we’ve known who they preferred for weeks.

In no way, though, were the above unbeatable. All had major chinks in the armor…mainly because of lack of personality or smugness. You pick. Archie is going to the finale. If there is a fanbase that votes blindly, it is his. He doesn’t even have to sing well…it would take him imploding from here till the top 3 for him to get booted. That’s how far ahead I think Archie is. DCook is just SOLID. For whatever personality he may have lacked, TPTB have been working overtime to give him an extra push in the media. Simon gave him the warning about “smugness” early, before it could hurt him, and DCook followed the advice smartly. You cannot compare the likes of Melinda Doolittle versus DCook, Archie, or even MJ. Not even in the same ballpark.

Re: Randy and his ‘throwing Jason under the bus’….To tell you the truth, Jason threw himself under the bus. This is the seventh season of American Idol. Nobody can say that they or someone close to them is unaware of how the Idol game is played. You can make that finale with less than stellar vocals ala. Blake Lewis if you are smart about it. Blake changed it up and was just unique enough to squeak by. In previous years, Jason may have stood out more. But this year is chalk full of power singers, rockers etc. Jason has to know that he has to switch it up. But has it crossed anyone’s mind that maybe he CAN’T switch it up? That what we see now is all he can give? That is fine…Randy did say on LKL that not every singer is meant for Idol. I think Jason and his act just isn’t showstopping to enough people to warrant ‘frontrunner’ status. I’m sure people can say the same for MJ, DCook, or Archie, but you have to admit…when a ‘wow’ moment is needed, one or all of the three frontrunners usually delivers.

Each to their own. For me a wow moment was in both Daydream AND Hallelujah.

David A was my fav before I set eyes on Jason during top 24. David A paled in comparison. It is about charisma.

I totally think the finale will be David vs David with MJ coming in 3rd. What’s funny though is the biggest wow moment of the season for me this year was Jason’s Hallelujah. Billlie Jean was a close second.

I know all about seeing someone “depimped” as I vividly recall Simon going on Leno the night before the final 3 performed and pretty much said Elliott wouldn’t make it to the finale… umm… thanks. The LKL thing may energize Jason’s fanbase even more.

I sincerely hope that more people return to the “voter club”. I hope more Jason fans give up their non-voting stance to keep him safe. I did not vote much last season but I feel invested again this season.

Since I’m a non voter, I just try to figure out who will win/has the best voice and see if I’m right. Jason is a cute guy but I don’t get the dedication. He’s one of the weakest people left. Keeping him over people who are giving better performances might make for good TV though. Does David Cook have a fan site similiar to the Soul Patrol or Claymates? The names are always so cheesy, it would be funny to hear what his is called. Cookie’s cooks/crumpets?

I’d love Michael to get to the top 3 of course but my real goal is for him to make to top 5. I don’t think either he or David C need to win and may be better if they don’t. JPfan, it’s all in the eye/ear of the beholder. Weak is an opinion, not a fact. It’s a subjective opinion. Just because a person’s voice or musical style is not your favorite, does not mean that it’s not worthy of the dedication of the people who enjoy it.

Looking at the picture above, I just realized that there is a 4 year difference between each of the contestants right now – 17 year-old David A, 21 year-old Jason, 25 year-old David C and 29 year-old Michael. I have too much free time. (Or I should be working. LOL.)

People vote for many different reasons on Idol – voice, persona, back story, blue eyes, cute friends so I shouldn’t be surprised at anyone’s fan base. I don’t think Jason is anything special and obviously that’s JMO.

I think these dolts seem to forget that they fell all over themselves when Michael did Bohemian Rhapsody, and that sure wasn’t blue eyed soul. On one hand I understand where they are coming from. For me Michael’s Otis Redding audition was what caught my eye, definitely a “woah” moment for me. I didn’t mind the rock thing and I liked his Light My Fire, I liked his Queen medley…but last week he was amazing. Weeks ago Simon told him he was waiting for him to connect with the right song and have his moment, that was it last week so now that they saw what he’s capable of they’re gonna lock him in that box. I prefer a little versatility though.

Couldn’t agree more with everything you said bean. MJ does have a great personality, have you seen him doing interviews? He is a pro. I actually not only love him because of his talent but for the great sweet humble guy he is.
Anyways, I also accepted the fact that he probably won’t make it to the finale but I am hoping he gets to Top 4 at least. He has so much potential to have a great career in music.

I didn’t get David C. until Billie Jean. I didn’t care so much for Michael until last week. When I finally did care I did a utube search on him and realized I’ve not seen the Michael on there on AI and I wonder why.

I think it’s smart to stay true to your style. Not everyone will like it, of course. I’m not a fan of power ballads, so I’m not particularly impressed with Archuletta. He’s staying with what he does best, and it seems to be working for him.

I still think Michael could be the *gasp* unexpected early boot. I’d expect to see the Davids and one girl -hopefully Brooke- in the top 4. I’d be happy with Jason or Carly in 4th slot.

Exactly. The judges are extremely inconsistent. Archuleta pretty much never switches it up, neither does Syesha, but they don’t get called out on it. Instead they would rather tell Jason he’s boring for turning country/disco/whatever else into something very pleasant that almost anyone of any age can relate to, and tell Carly that she’s just ok for taking an up-tempo country song and making it a very pretty ballad.

Jason is my favorite (with David Cook in close second), but he most likely won’t win. He deserves to be in the top 4, but I’m expecting him to go home after top 6. That is, based on the performances so far. Who knows what will happen? Maybe David cook will fall off the stage and Jason will surprise the judges with another Hallelujah.

Pretty much I just want KLC to go this week. If Jason goes before she does then I’ll be convinced that the producers fixed it.
