One really good thing about Paula Abdul’s new CBS dance competition show, Live to Dance? The show’s limited run (only about 6 hours) means that Tuesday’s premiere competed the audition phase of the series.

Last night, the cast of experts, including Paula Abdul, Kimberly Wyatt and Travis Payne moved on to choosing the semi-finalists. Some of the acts went straight through to the semis. four acts were chosen to come back for a wild card round. Taking a page from the latest season of So You Think You Can Dance, the experts delivered the news to the acts in person.

Kids dance troupe, Inside the Box, married ballet dancers, White Tree Fine Art, male street dancers, Theatrix and precocious 11 year old Kendall Glover were all chosen to come back to perform again.

The experts chose Kendall to move on (I think Paula sees herself as a kid in Kendall). The remaining 3 acts will be chosen by viewer phone vote (My money is on the ballet couple advancing).

The live semi-final round begins Wed. January 12. After the jump, check out a list and video of Live to Dance semi-finalists:

Austen Acevedo
Jittin Genius
D’Angelo & Amanda
Bev and Hap
Chi-town Finest Breakers
The Vibe
Jalen
Du-Shaunt Stegall
Dax and Sarah
Dance in Flight
Twitch
Roosevelt Anderson
Jill & Jacob
Tap Sounds Underground
Dance Town Chaos
Shore Thing
Kendall Glover

Either White Tree Fine Art, Inside the Box, or Theatrix will move on, depending on viewer votes.

I just got my 25 online votes in for White Tree Fine Art – the ballet couple. I thought they were exquisite and the judges should have put them through on the short list. Voting closes for me at 9AM PT. I don’t feel like voting with all my e-mail addresses.

Here are the voting rules: http://www.cbs.com/primetime/live_to_dance/vote/rules.php

I really didn’t think Kendall should have been the judges choice, but you may be on to something, MJ. It makes sense that Paula sees herself in her, but what about the other 2 judges?

While the older couple, Bev and Hap, were cute, I seriously don’t think they should be finalists above all the great acts that were turned away. But I guess every competition needs fodder and VFTW needs a candidate if they decide to follow the show.

The eleven-year-old was my least fave of the four. Oh, well. I liked the ballet couple and Theatrix the most.

I agree the old couple should not have advanced although that did make for some fun TV, lol. I also think Inside the Box should not advance. Does that one website that counts overnight votes ( forgot the name) do so for this show? Anyone know how the voting is going?

I agree with MJ about Kendall too- was thinking the same thing last night. And did you see the BODY on that kid? Holy muscles.

Basically this show is the exact mirror/ copy cat alike of UK version. Can the US version have their own personality? At least make it a little different.

From 17 semifinalist, 8 acts are kids/teenagers (all under 18). or maybe even more. Just like UK version I can predict the winner will be from kid/teenagers acts.

Maybe only Twitch can be a real contender to fight with them. And they need to had different choreo and still entertaining.

All in all, the quality of the dancers are not as good as SYTYCD and Best Dance Crew but maybe more entertaining to majority of the viewers because tons of back stories and this show had tons of cute kids.

And because this show is in fact American Got Talent dance version, they put some really bad and mediocre acts as canon fodder so the viewers will had easy choice to votes for producers favorites.

The 11-year-old? Seriously? I so wanted Theatrix and White Tree Fine Art to be the two. The kid has talent and skills but I’m at a loss with Paula describing her as this great, compelling performer. She may well be that some day and even someday pretty soon, but not yet, to me. Way too much “I’ve got this huge grin on my face as I’m doing the contest moves that I’ve been taught to this music for which those tricks are only kinda sorta appropriate.”

I am also interested to see where Twitch can go with this because they are different. I really wanted to follow this all the through, but I want to watch Idol as well. The apparent success of the show has to make Paula feel good!

I haven’t followed America’s Got Talent. Haven’t they had dancers on the show?

Grammie Kari, if you don’t have Tivo (I don’t) and prefer to watch AI, you can watch Paula’s show online at cbs.com the next morning and still vote if you so choose.

I actually often watch AI online on buddytv when it airs in central time and watch whatever I really want in that time slot when it airs west coast.

Yes, America’s Got Talent also has dancers, musicians, magicians, bowling ball jugglers, acrobats, skate boarders … pretty much anything that can be considered a talent. Some remind me of Letterman’s stupid human tricks.

I hope Twitch goes far, as well. I really enjoyed them. They are just different enough.

I’m finding it hard listening to Andrew G the Host saying good night America when for so many years he said good night Australia on Australian Idol! I wonder what the US viewers think of him? From that short snippet he seems to be doing well.
Also from the video there seem to be a good variety of dance acts -which is why I think I’ll like this show as dancers are not pushed into doing a style that doesn’t suit them.
