Jordin Sparks Co-Wrote Ariana Grande Single “The Way” (VIDEO)

This is a pretty cool tidbit. Jordin Sparks is back on the Hot 100 this week, but NOT as a singer! According to The Hollywood Reporter, she is a co-writer of “The Way,” the debut single by Nickelodeon star, Ariana Grande.

The song was intended for Sparks to record herself, as she tells The Hollywood Reporter: “I wrote it with Sevyn Streeter, Sherrod Lambert and producer Harmony Samuels for my upcoming album. It was definitely written about my love, Jason [Derulo]. We had a blast writing it. Ariana’s team heard it and she loved it! So she cut it. She did an amazing job and she kills it live!”

Pretty awesome development for Jordin. Now she has to release new music of her own. It’s been too long. Check out “The Way” lyric video below:

I love Jordin, but I can’t stand this song.

Didn’t we know this a while ago?

Old news. I’m happy that the song is doing well, but I’m glad Jordin gave it away. Sounds dated.

  • b_james

Seriously, what ever happened to that album she was working on?

I can totally hear Jordin in this song.

  • samuelgrant

I don’t think Jordin would have sounded good on this song. I love her, but Ariana is definitely superior when it comes to vocals.

  • Jason Gorny

    it’s coming out this fall

I love this song, but anything Seven is apart of is really good.

  • MV007

They seem like two different kinds of singers to me. Jordin probably has more power imo.

It was known a few days before the song was released that Jordin co wrote the song since she tweeted about it’s release . Jordin mentioned a few weeks ago it was supposed to be her first single from her 3rd album and was to have been released in February but was then given away. Even if Jordin was not a writer on it i really like the song and am sad it was not Jordin that got to release it. also Jordin did a little sing along to Ariana’s version on the radio a while back.

Love the song, especially Ariana’s vocals. Mariah teas much?

At least Jordin is moving on to different things. I was trying to think of how many Idol alumni have appeared in a movie? Jordin, Justin, Kelly, Katharine, and Carrie – any others?

Pia Toscano will have a pretty good role in Grace Unplugged going to theaters in October :)

Taylor Hicks is in two full length movie documentaries, if you wanna count that…. “Music City USA”, Nashville documentary, released this year, and “Pocket Full of Soul”, a harmonica documentary released last year.

Stylistically, so incredibly early-’90s. The vocals, the music, everything.

  • KelseyW

    I’m fine with that. :)

The 90’s gave us some awesome music, and such a wide variety of sounds too. Not to mention talented singers who could actually sing.

  • KelseyW

I love this song! If this is a preview of Jordin’s current abilities as a songwriter then count me in as being excited for her third album! Which better be released this year or else. :P

Oh, and Ariana is so adorable, and I’m really impressed with her voice. The Nick show(“Victorious”)that I first saw her on is cute too. It’s also great that western PA rapper Mac Miller is featured on this song. The more local talent that goes on to have success in the music biz the better! :)

Now if only we could get an Idol winner, runner up, and/or Top 3 finalist from around here…Yep. I won’t shut up about western, PA(And PA in general.)continuously getting the shaft year after year until Idol finally finds good/unique local talent and they stick around longer than the Top 24.
