OK, joined the pool.  Fun office pools are fun.  :)

I joined! It will make Oscar Night more fun since I don’t really feel invested in any of the films or performances this year with the exception of Anne Hathaway’s. But, this will give me something to root for! Of course, for a few categories, I either just picked the first entry or did an eeny-meeny-miny-moe as I have no clue.

Rooting for Jessica Chastain in Zero Dark Thirty! For anyone who’s seen the movie, Chastain was unbelievable.

I think Hollywood will give it to Jennifer Lawrence though. It’ll be close!

Joined, didnt see any of them, picked by random name, lol I love pools tho, wish we had one for AI this year!

  • durbesque

I haven’t seen a movie in years.  So my only clue is the Golden Globes.

I would have chosen Jessica Chastain until a few days ago when I saw the French film “Amour”. Now I hope Emmanuelle Riva wins. She was incredible. Regardless, I hope more people will see the movie.

Clearly, Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain are neck and neck for the Best Actress category. I’ve seen both films that they’re both starring in and the two of ’em are fantastic but I have to give a slight edge to Jennifer Lawrence. Also, there’s a huge possibility that Argo might win.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I think that Argo’s chances for Best Movie are great, because it’s an excellent movie, but also because Ben Affleck was snubbed by the Academy for a Best Director nomination (and he’s one of the producers). I loved the Life of Pi, and think that Ang Lee should get the Best Director award. I’ve only seen Jessica Chastain’s performance in Zero Dark Thirty and she was amazing, so I”m rooting for her. I love Hugh Jackman, but if anything is a sure thing tonight, it’s Daniel Day-Lewis winning the Best Actor award. Same for Ann Hathaway with the Best Supporting Actress award. I think that Robert DeNiro may be the sentimental favorite for the Best Supporting Actor award (plus, he’s great in everything that he’s done).

Argo will win best picture for the mere fact that Hollywood loves movies about Hollywood saving lives :)

Best Actor: DDL is a LOCK
Best Song: Skyfall is a LOCK

Loved Silver Linings Playbook , it’s my personal favorite movie of the year, except for…

…Searching for Sugar Man — AMAZING documentary.

I would just be delighted if they could throw a show I can stay awake through; I have given up on this show.  Everyone gets all fired up and the presentation is invariably a yawn.  I prefer musical awards and then the awards where winners get popped and eat while they wait for announcements.  They become infinitely more fun. That said, go for it Affleck.

I had every intention of seeing all the nominated films this year … but I didn’t.
The only one I feel strongly about is ‘Argo’. I did see it and it was the best movie I have seen in years.

I made some educated guesses, and others I pulled out of thin air. I’m fairly certain I won’t win the pool. :D

I saw Argo and imo it’s overrated. What saved the film is the supporting cast. Ben Affleck is a very one note terribad actor. He’s definitely a better director than actor.

    Wait…they’re nominated too?

  • Kariann Hart

fuzzywuzzy, did you peek at my ballot?  LOL!  It seems you spread the wealth around like I did!  Many years have had major sweeps for one movie, but I don’t think it will happen this year.  There are so many wonderful movies this year!

All five of the Best Supporting Actors have already won an Oscar.  But like you, I think Robert DeNiro will win because it’s been 32 years!

lovesickheroine,  I had a hard time with this one and even thought a tie would work.  I agree with you on Argo, but not sure about Jennifer and Jessica!

I have heard there will be some terrific vocal performances.  We’re attending a viewing party, so it will be a fun evening!
