Jane Lynch to Make Broadway Debut in ‘Annie’ – Jane Lynch is about to experience the hard-knock life — but she’s really happy about it. The “Glee” star will make her Broadway debut in May in “Annie” at the Palace Theatre. Lynch will join the cast as the evil orphanage matron Miss Hannigan, a role that she seems to have been prepping for with her portrayal of tart-tongued cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester on “Glee.” – Read more at The Wrap

Howard Stern Sticks Up For Kelly Clarkson

This is good. Howard is #TeamKelly all the way. “This guy is trying to diminish what she does? Doesn’t he have enough in life, can’t he tell his story without f**king degrading her? EXACTLY.

Country star Kellie Pickler bringing Nashville to KOP – From a small-town, dewy-eyed “American Idol” contestant who admitted on the reality show that she had never heard of the squid-based dish, Pickler has emerged as a Billboard-chart-topping, Grand-Ole-Opry recording artist who jams with Taylor Swift and is escorted on military choppers to entertain troops overseas. But despite overcoming such needle-in-the-haystack odds of making it big in country music today, she still clings to what got her there – family, friends and fans. “I don’t take them for granted, I promise you that,” she said about her fans during a recent telephone interview from her kitchen in Nashville. “They have been very supportive and caring to me.” – Read more at MainlineMediaNews

Bruno Mars When I Was Your Man by Anoop Desai

In this week’s WTF Wednesday, Season 8 contestant, Anoop Desai, covers Bruno Mars. There’s an interview tacked on at the end.

‘American Idol’: Why A Woman Will (Finally) Win – In a way, the 2,000 days since Sparks began her reign have also coincided with “Idol’s” slide from cultural relevancy: Ratings are down, judges have been shuffled and the parade of white guys with guitars that have taken the title stands in stark contrast to the rise of young, racially diverse — and above all else, female — pop stars that have come to rule both the charts and the pop culture landscape (though, it should be noted, Phillip Phillips has done rather well for himself). And don’t think the folks behind the show haven’t noticed … the addition of Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey was a bold attempt to address those shortcomings. Now, with the right pieces in place, all they can do is sit back and hope viewers will follow their lead. And it looks like that gamble may pay off. Because as the show prepares to pare its Top 40 down to a Top 24 this week, it seems like a mortal lock: A girl will win “American Idol. – Read more at MTV.com

Girl sings National Anthem with Carrie Underwood – 10-year-old Alexandra Harvey got to sing the National Anthem with Carrie Underwood. She brought a sign to the concert that said “MY ONLY WISH IS TO SING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM WITH YOU!” It worked! Alexandra says she hugged Carrie 3 times, and that she “smells like candy”. How sweet is that? A dream come true for a little mega fan!

Fifth Harmony Prepping A ‘Fun,’ ‘Getting Ready To Go Out’ Album – “Well hopefully [it will] be the opposite side of the coin, the female side of the coin from the 1D boys, which would be great. It’s five amazingly talented, beautiful girls that I love to death and they’re great singers,” said Bunetta, who is executive producing the fierce fivesome’s Syco Music debut. “And I worked with them on the show. I’m getting to executive produce their album and so I’m trying to reach out to all the best songwriters and producers in the business and make an album that girls can have a lot of fun to. “I would hope that every girl would just put it on, when they’re getting ready to go out or when they’re in their car going somewhere and they just want to have a great time,” he told MTV News. “That’s what I want this album to be.” – Read more at MTV

While the event happened last night, the press keeps coming…in the first one, it shows Scotty giving a speech (so impressed by his poise) and the next one is the vid of him singing with an elementary school chorus…

Love Scotty singing with these kids. I would say that the College Public Speaking class has done the trick. He is a very eloquent speaker.

WOW! Billboard just put a big dent in the power of radio play. They changed the rules to include you-tube views. Harlem Shakes is #1 on BB this week as a result.   Here is the article. I was going to put it in the numbers thread but since it was such BIG news, I decided to put it here. If it is inappropriate MJ, please move it.  If your favorite doesn’t get you-tube views, he/she might have trouble. According to Editor, parodies, live performances, etc will count. You can see Bill Werde’s comments on twitter. He answers a lot questions.

Also, only US views will be counted and they claim to have a mechanism to catch spamming. The new rules allowed a song with zero airplay to reach #1. Pretty big news as we move away from radio. According to Werde, even a Mixtape can chart now.

I’m no fan of the way radio is run now but Youtube views are so easily manipulated. I…just don’t know what I think about this move. Harlem Shake is barely a song lol. It’s a novelty, shared because it’s a funny dance. But I guess that’s been true of some songs that have made it big for brief periods of time. Macarena, anyone?

Matchbox Twenty plays it safe at Fallsview, to crowd’s delight

Despite the time constraints, the band still let American Idol
winner Phillip Philips open the show, and he responded with a
    crowd-pleasing three-song acoustic set.
He got a standing ovation, and two songs into Matchbox Twenty’s set,
    the
crowd decided it was done sitting for the night. It was a night to
embrace the familiar, and sing along to songs that ruled radio 15 years
    ago.

The headline says it all: Phllip Phillips Doesn’t Watch American Idol ;0 (He’s too busy to watch the show and is sick of singing Home.
    http://www.billboard.com/artic...

If P2 isn’t watching Idol now, and I believe in a interview a while ago he said he did not watch the show before he tried out, did he ever really watch the show????

And as for him being kinda tired of performing Home, I realize he sings it alot and all, but to me that sounds so ungrateful.  Lots of folks would love to have that successful of a song.  Overall, IMO I don’t think P2s comments reflect very well on him as an American Idol winner.
