Glee Video Previews: The Troubletones Survive, Sam & His Red Solo Cup

The Glee kids head to sectionals in the upcoming episode of Glee called “Hold on to 16″. The twist? Two McKinley High show choirs will face off against each other. OH NOES.

Here are the Troubletones, headed by  Shelby Corcoran (Idina Menzel), ex-Coach of Vocal Adrenaline, Rachel’s birth mom and adoptive mom to Beth, Quinn and Puck’s (Diana Agron & Mark Salling) little one (Not to mention she’s boning the baby daddy!).

Whew. With all that going on, she still has time to coach the renegade choir, featuring Mercedes, Santana and Brittany (Amber Riley, Naya Rivera & Heather Morris).   And they are fabulous.  With a performance like “Survivor/I Will Survive” I can’t quite figure out how they will lose.  But Finn and Blaine (Cory Monteith & Darren Criss)  seem to think it’s in the bag.

Seriously.  As much as I hated to see the group split up, I kinda wish the Troubletones were here to stay. They are FIERCE.

Plus it’s the RETURN OF TROUTY MOUTH HOORAY.  Sam Evans (Chord Overstreet) makes his triumphant return to New Directions and his “I’m Back!” performance is the country ditty, “Red Solo” cup.  It’s such a stupid song, but the kids eat it up!  Maybe they’re so happy to have Sam back, they don’t care?

Awesome moment #1:  A horrified Kurt (Chris Colfer) mouths, “WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU!??!”  to his boyfriend Blaine who is totally down with the ho-down.
Awesome moment #2: After the song, Santana greets her Trouty with a hilarious list of insults.

    The burning question is:  Who is that cute guy building the cup pyramid?  Can he get a seven-episode arc?

    Maybe ND wins because TT is disqualified when Shelby quits because of her mistake with Puck?  Then the two groups merge?  Just a guess.  Or ND wins because all the boys take off their shirts and the judges are supposed to be mesmerized by Sam’s abs?  I don’t find myself caring too much.  I’m just looking forward to seeing Sebastian try to cause trouble again.  And to Blaine finally telling Finn off.  I’d *like* to be looking forward to a Blaine solo but instead they’re going to waste my time with that stupid solo cup song.

    the troubletones are the new warblers this season. i really enjoyed what the warblers did as compared to the new directions in season 2. and i find myself lovin’ troubletones more than new directions, yet again, this season.

    The TT were good, but I didn’t think they were amazing. It’ll be a let down from the Adele mash-up *for most*, and I think that was done on purpose. ND did a great job on their songs too, and they have 3 – the TT only have 1. I’m seriously looking forward to seeing their performance. I like the TT’s song better with the video and I think the same will happen with ND. I can see them winning. 

    What message would the TT winning send anyway? That Rachel is necessary for ND? That only a few members of the original ND matter? There’s no way the TT would voluntarily combine after unless they had to forfeit, but even then, the group dynamics would be HORRIBLE. Santana and Mercedes would go around reminding everyone of how they were better (and probably then turn & fight over the Regionals solo, along with Rachel who will maintain that she wasn’t there for Sectionals), and the rest of ND (especially Tina) would feel so bad about themselves and think without Rachel they are nothing and insignificant. That’s not a good formula for winning Nationals. 

    But if ND wins, you know that they would welcome Mercedes, Santana, and Brittany back. They never wanted them to leave. And those 3 would realize that it’s going to take all of them to win Nationals. And then they can go back to being one big happy-yet-drama filled family lol.

    I think this whole TT thing was done in the first place to 1) create
    some drama for this season and 2) to eventually bring the group closer
    and make everyone feel important.

    It also allows each of the core characters a moment to shine in competition, and keeps 2 of the 3 groups “in the family”.

    I heard the spoilers but I still can’t believe they’re singing Toby Keith on Glee. LOL

    Sectionals have been been a bit disappointing since the first one. They always choose songs that are inferior to other songs the groups have done earlier in the year. And New Directions is always outshone by another group yet still wins. I know Glee is rarely about believability (or continuity) but it would nice for them to occasionally make it seem like they’re trying.

    I’m actually really excited to see this year’s sectional performance… ABC is a fantastic group number and it was nice hearing Tina sing lead.

    I love hearing Tina on lead too, but ABC is just so overdone and they sound more auto-tuned than normal for group numbers from the preview. The Janet Jackson song and Man in the Mirror both sound overly auto-tunes as well, but that’s expected with the weak leads of Diana and Cory.

    I’d like to see Tina get a lead in a song that shows how amazing her voice actually is.
